They could have at least got say Thornton or someone, Camby has more value than that, surely!!
Denver was way over the salary cap and into the luxury tax and wanted to cut costs. I think they might not be done dealing either.
They could have at least got say Thornton or someone, Camby has more value than that, surely!!
could have gotten a first round pick though..
or just waive some of the other players
or trade some of their bench guys for 2nd round draft picks.
Am I reading this right, Clippers gave up a 2nd Round Pick for Camby???
They could have at least got say Thornton or someone, Camby has more value than that, surely!!
Playing with a True PG will really open up the Defense, and possibly allow Camby some inside scoring opportunities.
i could be wrong, but im sure i saw that the trade involved camby to clips and denver in return gets $10M and the 2nd rd pick down the track??? not sure if it is correct, cant remember where i saw it :-k
The Clippers on Tuesday night swung a trade to import Denver Nuggets center Marcus Camby as their Brand replacement for the minuscule cost of giving Denver the option to swap second-round picks in 2010, capitalizing on the Nuggets' need to shed salary to create their own financial flexibility.
Using the salary-cap space earmarked for re-signing Brand before his free-agent departure to the Philadelphia 76ers, L.A. was able to absorb Camby's contract ($10 million for each of the next two seasons) without surrendering anything of consequence, although Denver did create a trade exception worth $10.1 million that expires one year from Tuesday.
Report: Pistons willing to deal Billups for Warriors' Andris Biedrins
The Pistons are interested in acquiring Golden State center Andris Biedrins and they would offer Chauncey Billups in the deal, the Oakland Tribune reported.
Columnist Carl Steward writes: "The buzz in Detroit is that the Warriors and Pistons have been talking about a deal involving point guard Chauncey Billups. The Pistons want Andris Biedrins, the Warriors are offering up Al Harrington. Harrington by all means. But Biedrins? No way.
"Hard to see Billups in a running style, though, and he will be 32 in September. That said, he would be much preferable to (Monta) Ellis at the point, and a significant recoup, at least temporarily, for the loss of (Baron) Davis.
Biedrins and Ellis are restricted free agents, and the Warriors had hoped to re-sign them. But the Warriors have appeared reluctant to include Biedrins in a sign-and-trade.
The 6-11 Biedrins was the No. 11 overall pick in 2004. The 22-year-old started 59 of 76 games last season, averaging 10.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.24 blocks, shooting 62.6 percent from the floor.
The Warriors might be willing to make a trade once their deal for Ronny Turiaf has been completed. Golden State made a four-year, $17 million offer to the restricted free agent Turiaf of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers have until Thursday to match the offer or they will lose Turiaf, a 6-foot-10 forward who averaged 6.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season.
ahh i see... thanks for the explanation. Bad situation denver got in.
billups for beidrens? another crazy deal
But the Warriors are in desperate need of a PG. Probably won't be a lot of opportunities for a decent one. If they sign Turiaf, that gives them another big man option. Randolph and Wright are both going to be studs too.
The Los Angeles Clippers have identified the latest target in their recovery from the free-agent loss of Elton Brand by agreeing to terms on an offer sheet with restricted free agent Kelenna Azubuike of the Golden State Warriors.
NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the Clippers have extended a multi-year offer using their estimated $3 million in salary-cap space left over after completing a trade Tuesday with the Denver Nuggets to acquire center Marcus Camby as their primary Brand replacement.
The Warriors will have seven days to match the offer when the deal is completed, but the Clippers would appear to have a good chance of emerging from that wait with Azubuike. Although the England-born swingman was beginning to blossom under coach Don Nelson in Oakland, Golden State has Monta Ellis, Corey Maggette and Stephen Jackson ahead of Azubuike in Nelson's rotation as well as 2007 first-round pick Marco Belinelli.
Azubuike is still developing after just two seasons in the league but has shown flashes of the ability to score from the wing that the Clippers need after Maggette signed a five-year deal worth an estimated $50 million with Golden State last week. Going to Los Angeles would reunite Azubuike with new Clippers guard Baron Davis after they spent the bulk of the past two seasons together with the Warriors.
Golden State, meanwhile, will learn Friday whether it can finally add Los Angeles Lakers restricted free agent Ronny Turiaf to its roster. The Lakers are widely expected not to match the Warriors' four-year, $17 million offer sheet to the energetic power forward with promising center Andrew Bynum scheduled to rejoin the team in training camp and partner with Pau Gasol on L.A.'s front line.
Unless I'm horribly mistaken, Randolph and Wright arn't able to play Center, and neither are Harrington or Turiaf. Who else does that leave you? Billups is old and massively inflated contract, not to mention I don't think he's an uptempo PG the way Baron is. Unless your style of play is going to change, I just do not think Chauncey would gel at all and simply is not worth giving up you're only Center who has a mountain of potential.
