RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) —Restricted free agent Ronny Turiaf has agreed to a contract offer from the Golden State Warriors, according to a report by The Press-Enterprise.

A high-energy forward-center of the Los Angeles Lakers, Turiaf’s deal was reported to be for four years and $17 million. The Lakers have seven days to match the offer.

PA SportsTicker was unable to reach the Warriors for comment.

Turiaf’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, chose not to confirm or deny the offer when contacted by The Press-Enterprise.

“We’ve talked to a bunch of teams,” Bartelstein told the paper in a phone interview. “There are a lot of teams that are interested in Ronny. We’ll just wait to see what happens.”

Turiaf averaged 6.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in nearly 19 minutes per game last season, his third with the Lakers.

A star player at Gonzaga, Turiaf had a rocky start to his professional career, as the French native had to undergo open-heart surgery in July 2005 after a physical exam found an enlarged aortic root.

Turiaf can shoot? Honestly, I had no idea...

I know he has a nice inside scoring ability, can get up there and dunk.

He made a smart move there, would have had very limited minutes behind a healthy Bynum this coming season.

$4M a year, is easy money for most clubs.

Talk about the Warriors rebuilding.... How old is Turiaf?

He can;t shoot? Seemed like he had a solid touch out to ~12-15 feet in the finals games I watched...but happy to be wrong :)

As for age, drafted 05/06, so surely no older than 24?

And yeah, great move with all the frontcourt competition in LA...mind you, Lakers are likely to match no?

I like Turiaf, but it's not really getting us closer to a PG. They probably could have gotten Arroyo or Telfair for that much. Least now they have some trade pieces to use. Love the energy from Turiaf, wouldn't mind seeing him in a Warriors uni
 
Perhaps the most unspoken part of the Brand deal is that the Timberwolves got Rodney Carney, Calvin Booth and a protected 1st Round pick from the 76ers for a 2nd round pick.

Carney might help out a bit, but Booth won't be back, so they clear cap space at season end and upgrade a draft pick.
 
I think Carney still has something to offer. He has no consistency and his minutes were up and down too.....so I'm sure he will improve under stability. Maybe on a rebuilding team, with 2 years under his belt he will do better.

I was actually thinking we'd kept him when I heard the Brand deal and thought he might become that important outside threat, but alas...

I don't see much if any time for him in Minny and he'll likely not get re-signed as they're trying to clear space for a big free agent summer.

Nathan Jawai from the Cairns Taipans is headed for the NBA in a big way after signing a two-year guaranteed deal with the Toronto Raptors.

The 21-year-old Queenslander's trade to the Raptors was made official only on Thursday.

"We have agreed to terms with the Toronto Raptors on a guaranteed two-year deal, which is rare for a second round pick and certainly displays the promise they see in Nathan," the player's agent Daniel Moldovan said.

"We are thrilled that Nathan has gone to such a first-class organisation and that he will be playing behind two of the true superstars of the NBA in Jermaine O'Neal and Chris Bosh.

"What this means is that Nathan will not only be on the Raptors roster immediately, as opposed to developing further in the NBL, but he will be right in the thick of the minutes given that the team is going with a big man rotation featuring O'Neal, Bosh, (Andrea) Bargnani, Jawai and (Kris) Humphries."

Jawai was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 41st overall selection in the 2008 NBA Draft in New York on June 26, but was included in a draft-day trade, which sent six-time NBA All-Star forward-centre Jermaine O'Neal also to Toronto from the Pacers.

In exchange Indiana received guard TJ Ford, centre Rasho Nesterovic, forward Maceo Baston and the draft rights to centre Roy Hibbert.

The trade was officially confirmed on Thursday with the Raptors moving rapidly to secure Jawai to a contract.

Jawai is the first indigenous Australian athlete drafted into the NBA. His selection with the 41st pick saw him drafted higher than all but four other Australians Luc Longley, Andrew Bogut, David Andersen and Chris Anstey.

Jawai became the tenth Australian ever drafted to the NBA.

Positive signs for another local boy. Drafted 41st doesnt sound great, but as we can read, at least he's guaranteed to play, not develop in the D League.....
 
Yeah, I am happy that another Aussie has made it. Too bad David Andersen ended up signing with Barcelona, as he was close to signing with the Hawks, so we would've had three guys in the league this season. Maybe next year, I hear DA has a get out clause if he get a good offer to go to the NBA.

The 6-foot-7 Barry played 31 games with San Antonio last season and shot 43 percent (48-for-112) from 3-point range. A 13-year veteran, Barry will play for his sixth NBA team after stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Seattle SuperSonics and the Spurs.

Barry's father, Rick, spent two seasons with the Rockets (1978-80) and his older brother, Jon, played for the team from 2004-06.

Barry, 36, was a member of San Antonio's championship teams, in the 2004-05 and 2006-07 seasons.

Among active players, Barry ranks eighth in career 3-point field goal percentage (.407) and sixth in career 3-pointers made (1,346). Barry won the NBA slam dunk contest in 1996. He was the league's most accurate 3-point shooter in 2000-01, making 48 percent (109-of-229).

Toronto seems like a perfect fit for Jawai. He's among some good stock with Bosh, Jermaine and Bargnani and they've managed to put together a pretty good core. I hope they let Primo go to another team or just waive him so that Jawai can come off the bench with Bargnani. That would be awesome. The Raps seem to have things covered at the other positions too now, lots of shooters to spread the floor and Jose at the point.
