2014 Select Series 2

Shuey you are like a prime Cousins snatching the ball from a stoppage and kicking it from 50 with your relentlessness... love it lol.

On the topic of lost revenue, I was hoping of getting my first case knowing (lol) there would be 2 Hawks sig redemptions. Throw in a few boxes from potential case shares and I'll leave it up to you to do the math :p

Yes Steve, money better spent on gas and car rego :D

It looks like i have a "vendetta" or axe to grind if you will.

However when Select release something of quality i have been more than happy to say so.

Last years product was a step in the right direction for Select and i loved it and said so many times.

I care about my team and i love to collect cards of them.

I also happen to be an adult and with this comes a occupation, family, friends, hobbies......

From what Steve is telling me (if it indeed is him) i should just give up and walk away, if i don't like it, bad luck.

Well f**k that.

I'm passionate about my cards and my hobby.

If i don't like it, i'm going to try and change it.

Any way i can.

Steve's mission statement was to stomp out the negative perception of the product by trying to dispel any such worries we think they might have, hopefully quieting us in the process.

I'm not buying.

His excuses or their product.

I might be insignificant in their eyes but if we as a community come together....

An arrow by itself may be broken across ones knee, but if you bind more than a few together??

They are unbreakable.

There have been some questions raised by members re the authenticity of the earlier post by Steve Wang.

Without talking to the man directly (which I can't do tonight) , the email account on the profile matches one of the emails listed on the Card Zone website, and the user would have had to click on a confirmation email to be able to post here. There have been no modifications to the user profile after signup.

From the evidence presented, I would say there is a very high to extremely high chance that the account and post are genuine and were in fact posted by Steve Wang.

Wow....just stunned at the outright ignorance, arrogance and dismissive nature of the man in that case. Although, if I had as big a conflict of interest as he did......

How good would it be to have our great cards numbered to 10,25 and 100 as well as 300. Cases would fly off the rack

As much as i would like really low numbered stuff i can understand that it also hurts the hobby as not everyone can get one.

However limited releases to 50 and 100 have worked well in the past and are frequently ignored now.

Prime draft was 145 and due to the size of the set it worked extremely well.

They can do lower numbered inserts and have in the past, now they just choose not to.

It's no wonder then that i spend most of my time on here looking at box breaks and maildays in the other sections.

Select can get away with 50 or 100 easily, just check out feebay it's still flooded with prime draft

A lot of interesting points and discussion in this thread.

Whether people decide to buy Series 2, is completely up to them and I respect that. Personally for me, I will not be buying any boxes due to and not limited to the fact that the number of the higher end inserts are too high, lack of perceived value/fun in busting boxes in this year's series (more boxes, higher numbered inserts + increased price) & lack of originality after expecting a lot more inroads as Champions was not a great release. I liked last year's Series 2 as it did offer a lot of new and different ideas as well as offering a lot to collect for everyone (team, individual and set collectors)

I think a lot of the frustration from members from the forums can be attributed to the fact that Select chooses not to engage with their customers, with a lack of presence, communication and attitude that suggests that they are of the perception that forum members are a small minority and also not willing to listen to criticism or feedback when warranted. Most of this has already been discussed, and it may be repetitive but if most people feel this way, then it is more than likely to have substance.

Anyway, I am open for discussion and look forward to reading more responses from both sides.

I don't mind the 150 odd number, as I normally only buy 2 boxes, makes buying them in the secondary market not too unnafordable.

Have a read back through some of the posts.

The mod should have locked when "Steve Wang" posted.

Posters are getting into murky waters with some of their comments about both collectors, and Steve and his business practices.

Edit* I actually thought the Wang post was a decent troll, it was a 'red rag to a bull' post. However if it is him, and it's highly probable then I will no longer support the store and more than likely stop purchasing footy cards altogether.

Ultimately I don't want any OCT'er to make an error of judgement due to the frustration and anger felt, and get themselves into the poo. I'd rather Steve do that alone.

OK. So, as a group we are going to NOT purchase $25k worth of Select series 2. That is awesome. that is and extra $25k of Product that Cardzone can put away for 3-5 years and sell for double. That is and extra $25k of product that the likes of BH and co(the big sellers on ebay) can pick up at wholesale and sell back to us for hugely over the top prices. What happens in 2 years when they bring out a ripper series and everyone is back on board. You will all be saying "I better pick up all the ones I missed in 2014". I think the Masters series will be highly collectable. Still to come next year might be Reynolds, Warne-Smith, Bunton Snr, Greig, Williams, Harvey and Ablett(some great names there) and imagine Masters sigs. If Select have had this up there sleeve for a few years I doubt they would be letting everything out of the bag in the first lot. Whilst I am dissapointed they will get rid of the Draft sigs next year(only 2-3 of them ever get a decent price anyway) I bet it will be replaced with another 1 per box sig. I look forward to that. Something new.

While I can see a lot of people are dissapointed, lets put it in perspective. 40 people? 50 people? Not quite a revolution . I will be buying. In fact I might just buy a few extra cases. Like I said. I think those Masters cards will be a real winner. Just my opinion. Let the abuse begin.

At first read i didnt like this series, but I really like the idea of the Brownlow sets, the most revered medal in the game we love.
I wont be busting cases this year due to upcoming life events. But for the first time in a long time I will be a buyer in the secondary market. I look forward to adding these sets to the collection.

If and its a big if, if it was Wang im glad some of u are happy to be told to suck it up and buy any crap that is put out at any price. And happy paying the big market up and bring told to suck it as they will all make money anyway.
If its confirmed 100% not to be him I will apologies. And I hope for hope sake it isnt as its really got to a lot of people and spread from her to other forums and Facebook etc

Honest question mate, as ive done with the select bashing.
How do you see this series as being highly collectable when the main inserts plus DPSs are well over 300 cards + each?
Prime were at 145 and you can still find them all on ebay at any time and at a cheap cheap price for 90% of them. Now double that with these cards Ebay will be flooded for years to come driving card prices right down.
For me something as simple as going to 50 each or 100 each etc would have made a huge difference to this series. and DPSs sitting at around 275ish or less.

My example is the footycard trader effort. Especially the Set featuring Wingard etc. Because he threw in inserts at a very low number, and they werent anything special for most just normal cards. Anytime they happen to pop up on ebay, which is rarely, they still fetch a pretty penny. And this is an unlicensed product!
