Terrible news re: Series 2

If i wasnt about to redeem a whole lot of cards i would write them an abusive email and absolutely blast them

Do you know the rationale behind it? Series 2 always sells out, surely it would again ... they just seem to be shooting themselves in the foot.

I can't believe it's anything to do with sponsors ... Melbourne already had new sponsors on their top, in Sunday's game against the Warriors. It's still months until the set is released, and it would usually feature photos from around now I believe. And anyway, there's been cards of past players before (like the centenary set) that featured players wearing tops with jerseys that had sponsors on them that were no longer associated with the team or game.

I can see this pissing off a lot of people who were already pretty hacked off with Select.

Just when I though Select couldnt get any worse.

I have not regretted my decision to boycott all there products/releases. This makes me feel even better about it.... but seriously what a joke.

TBH i think Select are just lazy and using this as an excuse to get out of doing a little bit more work. Its not like they come up with innovative ideas every year, they just redo crap they have done the last year or like 2009 just make Series 2 a Champion extension.
Really how do some of these bozos stay employed?

They really need competition coz they have getting away with half assed efforts since Early 2007.

Totally not in the spirit of fairness. As a collector who always supports the released product - I am gutted. I am collecting 2010 Champions but was so much waiting for series 2. I can not see the sponsor issue being the problem, more likely resources or finances. A petition may help but their decision is made it appears. Perhaps they had none on the drawing board anyway? This is not good news. Another company interested maybe who can bring some creativity & quality?

i was under the impression that they would already have the cards set to go to print by now:confused:

lets say they do have them ready what's stopping them from editing just the storm cards or just take a couple of more photos???????????

this is just weird:rolleyes: this will cost Select a small fortune in lost revenue not to print of the 2nd series let alone the expense they have spent allready on getting the 2nd series ready to its current point.

No offence to the NRL collector's, but this just proves how small the market must be. Surely Select making a decision like this shows that the NRL market means next to nothing to them, if it was a decent money they would put the effort in. Money makes the world go around!

I've emailed Select to get an "official" response from them. I know Steve is the distributor, however i'd still like to hear what Select have to say on the matter. Will post as soon as I get a response.

Complete bull****! I was looking forward to the second release of panthers cards – and the way they are playing at the moment – I might of finally got my premiership set  but seriously this is just poor form, why wouldn’t select make the cards simply for more $$$ they would be a sell out as usual.
Brplat

Why couldn't they offer a redemption of some sort for the Storm cards......or have a situation where you could buy the re printed storm cards for a set fee at a later date.

I remember in the old days if you sent x amount to the company they sent you the cards you needed for the set?

Surely there could be more options than just scrapping the whole set?

No offence taken but I think your comment is not very well considered. Granted the NRL is a smaller card collecting market but consider NRL 2009 Series 2 = 300 cases and sold out quickly as it is every year the AFL Series 2 = 400 cases, now if it was my business I wouldn't want to loose 43% of my end of year revenue by not producing the product.

Cheers

well not quite 43% of revenue.
they hold other licences like soccer don't they?
for afl they have produced series 1, herald sun, afl tags, key rings and series 2 to come.
they produced series 1 nrl too.
if it is a legal issue with copyright ect then the legal fees could wipe them out in one foul swoop.
300 cases might equate to $120k in profit but considering what select is worth with all their licences, it's just a pee in the sea.

like i said though, if they are prepared to do this, don't be supprised if they turn around and say there done with nrl for good.

this is why collectors should form a union, like the players association, gather enough revenue from memberships and buy the licence, produce our own cards by collectors for collectors, would only take a couple years to make it a machine.
would only need 100 collectors to invest $5000 each to make it work.
imagine the cards we'd get then? it be huge man, friggin huge!

Just like footycard said above, if you take into consideration all the other stuff, I think NRL, especially one series, just doesn't mean as much to them these days and is obviously easy just to cut out of the market then spend what alot of people would consider minimal outlay to photoshop or the like the logo's of ex-sponsors!

yeah didn't think this would affect Series 2 at all......

If they went ahead the Storm predictor would be just about worthless wouldn't it?

It has been confirmed by Select that there is no Series 2.

I have had quite a number of emails and messages from different sources and it seems to indicate that the reason is not to do with the Storm, but more with the fact there are so many NRL releases around.

Doesn't make sense as they sell out each year the second series. In my opinion it is a bad move on their part.

Don`t give up yet there may be a slim chance of another set ...We should all know definately towards the end of MAY weather it will be released or not ....

It may be a very slim chance but it hasn`t been totally ruled out yet ...

They are still talking about it but there are certain things that need to be cleared first ....

All we can do it wait and see ....

lol...I did expect to get jumped on.....however I did say EOY revenues as in Series 2 revenues not their full year revenue, they do also produce for NRL the Daily Telegraph, nrl tags, key rings but I think the Tags have been a failure and given what they are why wouldn't they be...

120k profit for a small company like Select would not be a pee in the sea, guaranteed revenue is the building stone for businesses it gives them security and allows them to grow as it covers operational costs.

like i said though, if they are prepared to do this, don't be supprised if they turn around and say there done with nrl for good.

I for one am starting to hope they do pull out if this is the sort of disdain they show for their loyal customers....guaranteed profit as it sells out no matter what crap they produce...it just doesn't make sense to me.

:D:D:D I like your outside the square thinking.
