Say your vote and why?

I say it isnt a bad series as it has something to chase and is rare. Top Prospects seems rare enough... but CAPTAIN REDEMPTION number to 50!!!!
Its good as it will get many people to by a box or case.
It will be a success

they look good and the rare cards will be the hard part but its good to get that challenge back into the card collecting again and put a bit more value back into the cards we spend so much money into.

I read the questin wrong and voted No when i meant yes. This release is lacking in a fair few areas, the major one imo is that there isnt anything between a Double trouble and a captains sig, they also need a 1:8 Box insert for a 16 Box case as without one they are just giving more incentive to the shonky ebay dealers (and online stores) that search cases for the case hit then sell the rest of the boxes.
Seriously where are these people ethics/morals?
Also they shouldve saved the Double Troubles for the 2010 Champions and atleast given us Platinum Top Prospects as the 1:2 Box insert #/100. Atleast this way your card is a chance of being something special (if the player turns into an absolute superstar) and not just Acetate junk made to look pretty.
I was so pumped to get a case this year but the Checklist has made me settle on a few boxes. :(

LOL, i just did exactly the same thing. I meant to hit yes as well. I basically agree with everything you said foldee. Dont think im even going to bother buying a box this year, ill just spend the money getting the few top prospects and captain sigs i want.

Well I read the question right and voted yes..................lol, i have a problem with the amount of inserts in the Champions series.........i mean really, how are kids supposed to collect all those cards cause that is what the first series should be aimed at.

For series 2.........i am just not that fussed about more JDCs and DTs as it cheapens what is supposed to be the premium series for serious collectors.........i like some of the top prospects and the captains signature cards BUT I would have preferred to see an origin or kangaroos sub set.......u know something different and collectable.

I know Select aren't the only ones to make the decisions on what goes in the sets cause the NRL has input but u know..........i am just not that excited about this set.

Dave and Justin hit the nail on the head: it just isn't collectable enough. How many years do we need club player, holo jerseys etc, etc. Looking through your collection should bring back memories of that particular year. With Select cards, you can't tell one year from the other!

I will be saving my dollars this year for more important things. Having said that, i do still want the Idris TP and Andrew Ryan Cap sig, i just won't be buying boxes because in my opinion, there isn't much else to collect in this set

Yeah it seems the marketing team are trying harder to convert kids into making the jump from $3 a pack to $5 a pack when honestly they would have more success trying to keep the Serious collectors happy by making an awesome series 2 product even if they bumped up the price a bit.
Seriously how much does a game used NRL jersey go for? Make around 1000 cards each jersey (not in the same year you would hope). Select surely make enough money to put some back into bringing their product into the 2000s, Its almost 2010 and our hobby is still in the 90s.
If they are really going to be that lame, might aswell bring back Scanlens @40c a pack and all cards are common. If Scanlens ever made a return to Cards and updated their product, they could put Select out of business, which probably wouldnt be a bad thing.

Voted Yes. Nothing new, same old stuff. As for my PC i'm not that impressed honestly, the only card i'm digging is the Farah and Marshall Double Trouble. Overall, Select are slipping.

I would have chosen in the middle because Select haven't brought anything new into the Hobby in the past year, I was hoping for a whole new look, but then again I voted yes because it looks like a very nice looking product:thumbsup:

Hi Foldee,

It's sad and little known fact... but Select OWN the Scanlens brand. No point competing against themselves.

I would have preferred to see an origin or kangaroos sub set

Unfortunately with Two Controlling bodies in Rugby League (ARL and NRL), it's not easy for Select to negotiate a Kangaroos or State of Origin Series with the ARL and then a Telstra Premiership Set with the NRL. I know they've done it before but it essentially doubles their licensing costs.

Commercial reality has an impact on our hobby.

Ian

P.S I voted No. We've been asking for more low numbered signatures and we've got them. I agree that we could have been given a few more high ratio inserts... but we can't get everything.

Geez i didnt realise that. That even speaks worse about Select knowing that info.
Theres even more cool things that Select could do, but either choose not to do or dont have any vision. Make some cool retro parallels or awesome heritage like signatures from key vintage sets.
P.S I feel like i always put Select down, when really i know they are doing alot of things right overall

Voted 'Yes'.
As someone who is new to the collecting again, I am not very excited to be collecting a series that is pretty much the same as the champions. Yes it does have some new cards (prospects), but it is still similar. I may have started collecting champions late but it got me very excited to be on the hunt for the entire set. I am not one to collect only one team. I am not satisfied until I have every card in the series. The Classic series just seems all but impossible to get every card. 6 redemptions and only 50 of each. Not very likely to get all 6. I don't think I will bother with the classic series. Its likely to cost a fortune. Haven't made the decision yet but I am leaning toward not collecting it at all.

It doesn't seem like select really seek any input from collectors which is a shame and it always seems that League cards are an after thought to the AFL ones. League boxes seem to have less inserts and the champions this year had a higher rrp than AFL.

I don't think it would hurt if as a group of avid collectors we wrote them a letter or formed some sort of petition to push for some of the things that everybody seems to agree are needed like gameworn cards and 2 full pages of base per team.

It also wouldn't hurt for them to do a Q&A now and then on their website to get some feedback from collectors.

I'll be grabbing a case so should be able to help out those who are only chasing inserts from their own teams.

Happy with the captains Sigs and low numbering as well as the return of Top Prospects. Not happy with the return of the boring Team of the Year and Club Player of the year inserts.
The resumption of the double troubles kind of make sense but not a fan of linking the two series with one insert set considering one product is supposed to be premium. If they end up being valued at roughly the same price then fair enough ($50-$60)

I would have likes some different inserts such as game used, or defining moments or great try cards. Better than nothing i spose and ill still attempt to get the dragons cards.

I think some guys from the cricket thread did this, and they didnt get very far. I believe they got an email back from select saying that game worn cards are too expensive to produce and not viable for the company etc etc. Just speaks volumes about the company.

I still crack up when i hear the basketball collectors complain they have too many game worn/patches, and its ruining the hobby lol. we have 3 game worn cards, from 6 years ago. thats it. ah well.
