The greatest players that never were.....

The goat for sure.....

Larry Johnson - 19-11 his first yr, 22-10-4 his second, then blew his back out. Was still a very decent player but never as explosive...

So nobody rates Isaiah Rider? and what a block that was on Ewing btw ;)

a few playoff runs with Portland, but a better attitude he would have been kept in Minnesota and with Garnett could have built something amazing..... KG actually liked him...

so his drugs and attitude not only wasted his career, but are wasting his life. He could have been great. He had the ability.

Try this for the block i was telling you about

YouTube - NBA Action 94 Top Ten blocks of the year

I remember those blocks!

Really loved that Ellis, but that was one great block on Ewing by JR Rider! And KJ trying to get past The Dream!

One that comes to mind is Vin Baker and his drinking problems! COuld have been much better and extended his NBA life if had kept off the booze and kept up his fitness.

I actually agree with that....in an NBA sense anyway.

And then you could add to the Aussie flavour with Shane Heal and Chris Anstey.

i actually had thought about Gaze and Heal too.... didnt think id bother bringing them up :)

Yeah Gaze had a great championship seadson with the Spurs.

When u think about it its hard to see why Gaze didn't do well, he was (and still is) a sharp shooter, does it matter if your playing in the NBA or NBL, you should still be able to nail the 3 when required to do so.

totally agree with Isiah rider and vin baker. One thing i have to add just off the subject is how many times has ewing made a player a star for a day by either getting blocked by guys shorter than him or dunked on by jordan.

I might throw the name Tim Hardaway up there.

Sure, he was an athlete, but he never really "got there" like most of the others around him did.

He could pass, steal, and do that cross over, but not much else eventuated from his career.

What ever happend to that big BIG dude in the 95-96 (I think) draft, Priest Lauderdale or something?

Was massive, some say bigger than shaq.

I had a card of his years ago, going for a jam, and the ball was like a tennis ball in his hands. Drafted by Atlanta I think.

Don't know anything about him, and rather OT (as he wasnt expected to make it), but thought I'd ask if anyone knows who I mean.

he was going alright until he blew his knee.

imagine what could of happened to all the players who had some serious injuries.

Grant Hill in particular could of been one of the greats going from his early years.

Zo with his kidney issues

what could of magic done if he didnt hve to retire???

what if larry bird had a back that worked?

would bernard king be in the lines of magic, larry and michael if he wasnt out for 2 years with his knees?

what if david skywalker thompson went into the nba in his prime instead of the aba

Tim Hardway 10 years ago reminded me of Chris Paul. today The guy was great but never lived up to his potential.

Same goes with Penny Hardway, disappeared off the radar after the season he was a all-star starter in 97-98 (even tho he was injured for a large part).

Well for starters playing for New York Knicks makes every player well known or receive coverage=D>.

The dunks that get the must coverage are the one's that were in the playoff. Such as Pip's superman leap over Ewing in 94 and Jordan's fake on 2 defenders and dunk over Pat 92.

least he got a ring with Miami...

in line with the what ifs...what about a young Sabonis coming to the NBA???

Best point made so far. Sabonis was the BEST on the planet at EVEN at a time when Magic and Bird were ruling the NBA but never played in his prime before an achilles injury ruined his running game.

He would of made the Dream and Ewing look rather ordinary.

You talking about that Avidis Sabonis or however ya spell is bloody name?

Didnt he play with Portland, and sucked arse???

I wanna add Glenn Robinson too. So much and expectations, but instead of going places (and alot of places like Hill) and Kidd did, he was pretty much forced to the bench to play behind guys, instead of making a career.

Sabonis would have been awesome if he came over to the nba when he was young. when he got there he was past his prime.

Why the hell did some1 bring up Shane Heals name?

Penny, Grant Hill & Larry johnson were held back by injuries.

the Ellis block is still one that i talk about with my mates wen we talk about blocks.

And if Gerald Green doesnt get picked up for next season he might be the new Harold Miner, dunk comp winner then missing person.

Sabonis was da bomb! Check this highlight reel out:

But seriously, he was one of the best passing big men that played the game even at that stage in his career.
