Grand Final

as expected the dragons fans are just as bad winners as they are losers they would be nothing without the money and all the juniors from illawarra but good luck to them

it happens alot. in the AFL the Brisbane and Fitzroy merger produced a team that pulled off a threepeat. it wasnt the clubs choice, so i hold no grudge.

If your going to make a statement at least get it right, the MONEY comes from St.George.... Illawarra provides the majority of players due to the bigger junior base area and also the players that are identified from out of area ( other country area's) are placed in the Illawarra juniors to keep them out of the city less distractions...
I hear the Sharks are in big big financial trouble.....

I couldnt agree more with this post. As soon as the 1st try was scored i thought to myself "Oh its like that" and knew the Roosters were NO CHANCE!

The dragons scored what two tries from what should have been turnovers/penalties ... THEY WON 32 - 8.... SORE FREAKING LOSERS ALL OF YOU.

Both teams got away with stuff - like hello stripping anyone? Apparently not if your the roosters, strip away!

UP THE DRAGONS!!!!

I think the reffing was hopeless but even if every single call was made correctly St.George would have still won that game....clearly the better team. Just frustrating that the Tigers somehow gave away a scrum against the feed with 30 seconds left against the Roosters otherwise it should have been a Dragons-Tigers GF which IMO would have been a much better game.

i think the warriors have more to be maad about. they wouldn't have got knocked out and at least the tigers got a 2nd chance

sharks are always in big financial trouble assest rich cash poor
i was told by one of the sponsors of st george that most of the cash comes from the illawarra area.......

Is he from the Illawarra?, the money from Illawarra comes from the owner of WIN TV his name escapes me, this is an article from 2006, much has not changed

Saints' $6.5m sell-off

EXCLUSIVE by DEAN RITCHIE

March 16, 2006

WIN Television Corporation has purchased a quarter-share of the St George Illawarra Dragons in a historic deal worth more than $6million.

Details of the shock deal will be revealed at a press conference in Wollongong today.

The Daily Telegraph understands Illawarra's side of the merged club is struggling to pay back an $8m loan from St George Leagues Club and has sold half of its share in the joint venture.

The Steelers are attempting to repay the debt but cannot sustain on-going, heavy payments.

Illawarra's board secretly voted to sell off 50 per cent of its share at a recent board meeting -- meaning St George Illawarra is now 25 per cent owned by the Wollongong-based television station.

Dragons chief executive Peter Doust was unavailable for comment last night.

The $6m that Illawarra will receive from the WIN Corporation will help pay back the Steelers' debt to St George Leagues Club.

NRL chief executive David Gallop was in Adelaide overnight promoting a round six match between Penrith and Melbourne at Hindmarsh Stadium on April 15.

Gallop will however return to Sydney early this morning to attend today's announcement. It is understood Illawarra borrowed the money from

St George Leagues less than two years ago.

The debt proves a theory most held when the two clubs merged in 1999 -- St George would supply the money, Illawarra the players.

The mega-rich deal highlights the success of the joint-venture club, with the Russell Crowe-Peter Holmes a Court takeover bid for Souths being negotiated for $3m.

Unfortunatley you will find people form all walks of life who need to learn this simple lesson of respect. For me I don't care what team you follow or what sport you play the most important part of sport is loosing and winning graciously and if this is the only lesson my son learns from me, my job is done.

we'll im stoked just recovered from a massive night what a game what a team UP YOU MIGHTY SAINTS WOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Mate ...recovered, what's wrong with you...I'm going out to do it all over again. ;)

:kick::kick: "Oh when the Saints......." :kick::kick:

Cheers

As a Rooster supporter who was at the game last night, I thought up till half time the Roosters would run out winners. To their credit, St George were the better team over the year and with the way they played in the last 40 minutes, they deserved the trophy.

For me it was disappointing, the 3rd Roosters Grand Final I have been to and all 3 times ive seen them lose. Maybe next time!

5 Grand Finals since 2000 and with a young team on the rise, I think the Roosters have a great shot at getting back there again.

But for today, congrats to St George, you deserve it this year!

Cheers
Matt

Its hard to be a sore loser when you couldnt care less who won, I am commenting as an unbiased observer. Bad reffing changes the whole complexion of the game and the final score can often be irrelevant.
A bad winner is ALOT more obnoxious than a sore loser. SOME dragons fans on this forum need a lesson in humility

Bet you were going for the Roosters, the Dragons have copped it all week from the media and supporters of other teams, now that we have won, we are not allowed to enjoy our victory, the amount of crap that has come out on other forums is a disgrace, just as much as everyone wants to give it to us, then i will defend my team... we get called Chokers when ever we lose, yet when other teams lose its OK perfect example is the Tigers, 1st game against the Roosters they had the game all wrapped up, but lost it, now substitute the Dragons instead of the Tigers in that game, all you would have heard how we choked, instead of congratulating us, its find an excuse as to why we cant attack, geez imagine if we could attack might have scored more than 32 points, it's your right to bag us & jump on the bandwagon and its our right to defend us....

Thanks for that Matt, I agree Roosters are looking good for the future and you have to be proud of the turn around following last season! I too thought Roosters would run out with it at half time, but thankfully for me my boys came out firing and showed some determination to hold on to the ball, rather than cough it up all the time.

I'll say this though (bear in mind I missed everything until the video ref confirming the first Dragons try) The Roosters sure liked to flop! I didn't see the Dragons do anything as dangerous or intentional as a couple of those Rooster players... although I think that may have come from frustration.

Well i wont even go there lol....
I have heard a very shocking / scary rumour that they are looking at joining us in a 3 way merger, when i heard i nearly collapsed, i hope it never happens, i would protest all day & night, now the person who told me was very intoxicated at the time....

*irony alert* Sharks fans giving lessons on how to win premierships with humility - LOL

Illawarra was St George territory pre-1982 (eg Langlands, Steve Morris)

"The Shire" was St George territory pre-1967.... can't see the NRL bailing them out and unless they can find their own Russell Crowe....

Anyway, I'm off to watch the game again :)
