Can I just ask...so I aoy the $50 in Paypal in 1 payment and that keeps me a premium member for a year? Then after a year I need to pay again?

When you follow the link it give you the 2 options; $5 a month or $50 a year! I am not sure if the annual one would be automatic for next year nor not?? Graham?? I know the monthly option is automatic.

I chose monthly intentionally... That way it's a $60 donation ;) I just hope the extra $10 doesn't get taken by PayPal

I think it's a great Idea but $50 for the year? Are the costs really that blown up? Genuine question... cause I want to support... but $50 bucks to get a banner under my name and the random opportunity to maybe win something? If it was something like $20 for the year I'd be more into it. I clicked over to support... but I can't justify $50 for a little banner under my name lol

Both the monthly and yearly are recurring subscriptions that can be cancelled by you in PayPal before the next payment is due.

For the record, Paypal take $1.50 from the yearly and $0.42 from each monthly subscription.

A huge thank you to everyone. Hope to make the announcement re the first giveaway today. :)

Costs for the site arent pretty. For the server I pay $220 a month ($2640 a year) plus $200 a year for a CDN bandwidth to help speed up the site (as we chew through more bandwidth these costs will only increase). It costs $150 or the outlay for this forum software, $50 a year for licence renewal for upgrades, $50 for the search feature (which is great and noone has probably noticed - try searching for "1/1" - it now brings up results which the old software actually didn't) + $35 a year for upgrades. $100 for the new feedback system that will be rolled out this week (hopefully). The boxes that I plan to give away aren't free (but donations are great - that comes down to the generosity of the members) I'd love to do some nice boxes each month for the guys who choose to support the site. There's shipping from the US to here then shipping onto the winners. There's probably plenty more I haven't thought of.

(EDIT - my wife will kill me for forgetting the $3500 spent on a new Dell server last year. As we grow this will need to be expanded and added to to be able to handle the load. Oh and $120 a month for a backup server. We all have seen what happens when you get hacked and don't have backups ;))

At the end of the day, if you want to support the site - thank you. If you choose not to, thank you also. Without all the members who come back here day after day after day this place wouldn't be what it is today. We aren't going to treat Premium members any differently, apart from us being able recognise them with a small banner under their name and giving them a chance to win prizes every month as our way of saying thanks for supporting us.

Please send me account details for bank deposit. I wanna support this site.

I'll send you some details today! Cheers

Graham,

I’m relatively new to OCT however the time I have been here has been great feeding my cardboard addiction. Although BB is not my key interest there are tones other sport/ non-sport stuff too.

So I figure for the cost of a magazine subscription I can help support a community of which I get much more value out of than any magazine could give me. (Except maybe Hustler ;) )…..

I look forward to a great 2012.

Cheers

Andrew

In and paid for, happy to support the site.

Personally though I'm not sure on the banner bit though, it hints of elitism ( no I'm not a socialist or communist), the site has a lot of people on it who probably can't afford the $50 annual spend who are likely to feel pressure to join. I think the bonus of being included in giveaways, bonus draws and simply supporting the site should be enough incentive. The banner may deter those who can't afford it from participating or joining the site....

I liked the fact that there was no way to differentiate between members....apart from their posts. Now if I see someone with 1000's of posts who doesn't have a banner I'm sure I and others will think ...why

Love the site and keep up the excellent work and thanks for the efforts in "refreshing" the boards regularly..

Cheers

Signed up for a year :D So happy to be a part of this great site and now I support it :D

So for example, if I don't want to sign up next year, about a week or so before the day (1st Feb 2013) that it will pay again, I send Graham or any of the mods a message to stop the payments?

Again so happy to support this amazing website, love it, just love it!!! :D

I've decided that I'll sign up here for a year and buy a box another time :) I'll pay and sign up tomorrow :) Thanks OCT, I never knew collecting was this big and I would meet so many great people on this site, looking forward to the future!! :)
If you pay monthly the site will get an extra $10 per year and you won't even notice its gone, hell its probably cheaper than a big mac meal a month!

If at any stage you want to opt out, you need to login to PayPal and cancel the subscription yourself. I don't have the link handy but if you google "cancel paypal subscription payment" it should point you towards a Paypal help page that will point you in the direction.

Thanks for your support mate

I'm in and happy to support the site but have to agree with these two posts quoted above.

As AJ said not all members have the dosh to throw around so maybe offering different packages or contribution options should be an option - and as Hobo mentioned if you don't contribute and have several hundred posts or more next to your name it isn't exactly a good look..... It's like being the only kid in school who can't afford a pair of Nike Airs when peer group pressure was a big factor! I'm sure it wasn't intentional but it comes across as a bit of a two tier system among members, something a little more subtle than a gold banner across every avatar perhaps?

Ok no worries mate, I shouldn't be cancelling for a while :) Happy to support the site

If $50 is a bit too much, maybe they could just cancel the subscription after 4-5 installments?

But I would hate to see the banner disappear of they did that as they are still contributing!
