NRL 2018 Elite Discussion Thread

I can predict the 2019 Elite inserts easy.

- Ruby, Saphire, Emerald League Sensations & Young guns. What the hell... might as well show in a diamond version to boot.
- Gold Parallel (maybe silver as well) Master &Apprentice + Sharp Shooters,
- Parallel Golden ticket for 3, 4 & 5 of the Master set,
- Parallel 300 Club subset,
- Parallel Dally M set. Maybe Ruby parallel set to boot.

Dibs on copyright for all of the above!

Whilst i like the look of the cards of recent years, ESP for the FIRST time in my life have lost me as a collector of the Elite series this year. They have totally lost the plot with the overkill on the parallel versions of various subsets. They have de-valued the NRL card market as a result over the years. Select cards prior to ESP actually held their value in the market. Look and learn dips***s.

I love NRL card collecting, however i am very disappointed in the road they have taken with their insert subsets in recent times. I personally have tolerated but this year enough is enough for me personally.

Wake up to yourselves before you kill off this enjoyable hobby for so many people! Be original and stop the ever increasing parallel versions of effing EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

I've been hearing for a couple of years now that this was always going to be the last iteration of Elite in it's current format, with 2019 expected to be a complete overhaul of the product. So i'd be very surprised if it looked anything like that prediction.

All my fingers toes and you know what are crossed in anticipation... OMG I cannot wait..

I don't disagree with you on a lot of your rant however I would certainly question parts of it.

Start with Select being original as implied, they did a Champions series with foil sigs, sketch and Gem cards ever year. Then a Series II without any substantial new ideas for a decade. Next I would suggest that it wasn't this fantastic offering from Select that helped the cards retain their value it was a combination of an awful distribution monopoly and a decreased volume of the product released.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side as I remember the 100's of pages of criticism every release on here about Select.

Sounds from Michael's post that there are changes coming in the future and as a St George supporter who thought he might finally get some of those sweet patch cards next year this may well pi$$ me off more than the parallels.

Mate, I don't know what to say to make you feel better. Perhaps some advice I (and others) received in 2016 when hoping out loud that increased parallels wouldn't be the high end hits from an understanding man named Vic might help:

"Boo hoo. Get a life and a real job .... really. There are bigger issues in life than this."

"Those who have the passion for the hobby will always collect and what value would the product be if virtually everyone was able to collect a "master set"? Right.. nothing"!

"Why are so many people so pessimistic and act like the product is the end of the world? If you don't like the product then stop complaining about it, stop buying it and move on to another product and website! We are here on this site because we love the addiction of collecting NRL cards. No company is ever going to satisfy all our personal demands and requirements otherwise fork out your own money to form you own production and printing company... whoops I think i heard a pin drop from all those empty pockets out there. What we have is a generally a good product and i would rather have this than have nothing at all for NRL collectors. We only live once and if ESP aren't satisfying your petty requirements then move on for god sake and stop your whingeing!"

I'd still expect to see patch cards in some form, just maybe shy away from the Road to the Finals theme which is creating an issue with teams duplicating over the years where others have missed out completely.

100% agree on this......i understand the reasn why they did the finals theme, but if you limit it to 4 teams a year then you miss out on a lot of teams especially with the doubling up.

Im excited for whats left this year and the endless possibilities for next year!

Any idea how many releases still to come this year other than elite?
