I'm not gonna lie, this has been the best year collecting that I've had. Just looking at the 'Collecting goals for 2017' thread, I know I'm not the only one too.
One main thing helped for me and that was SPENDING MORE MONEY!
!
I had a bit more accessible income this year and as a result I landed a lot of nice cards. I managed to land 26 KG #21 cards last year to get to 248, and I hoped I might do something similar to get to 275 by the end of this year and hopefully get to 300 by the end of 2018.
Instead I got 36! With a lot of quality too. I have one incoming to start 2018 so I'll be at 285 and need only 15 to make the big 300 next year, which is very achievable.
Anyway, enough waffling on. I thought I'd show the best of what I've gotten this year along a few different themes.
Firstly.....
SOMETHING OLD.
It's very hard to find any 'old school' jersey numbered cards. It's rare you even see one from the early 00's. This year I managed to find 3 cards that are among the earliest 20 cards I have in my collection.
Two I think I've shared already but I'll show them all off again.
Firstly this magical card.
I got this from a KG collector from Hungary.
Next one is from an old KG collecting mate from Oz who got back online and sold his cards. He had some beauties and I never forgot he had this one....
And lastly under this theme, this bad boy was actually on ebay and in the biggest rush this year I managed to strike a deal with the seller in a matter of minutes. I was very lucky it was listed after work just when I was looking!
It's a beauty in hand. One thing I tend to do is never buy rare cards that aren't jersey numbered. I'd always admired this set but never owned even the base card.
Great photo of arguably the two best #21's in league history.
I love the detail on the backs of these cards. Absolute class.
Anyway moving onto a new theme,
SOMETHING NEW
This will just be a showcase of the nicest cards I've gotten from recent KG releases from this and last year. Highlights being the Black Gold 21/25 off a KG collector from France, and the awesome 15-16 Revolution Futura card Timmy21 sent me.
The Black Gold patch is all class. Love that one.
Now onto...
SOMETHING BORROWED
I'm borrowing cards I've gotten from other years to help with these. This year I added to all these pics in one way or another.
Firstly 2006-07 Reflections. I have 9 of the 11 KG cards 21/xx. Just missing a couple of base parallels.
2005-06 Exquisite. I have 6 of the 10 KG 21/xx cards from this set after adding the EAP 21/100. I got it off another Kiwi KG collector.
It helped me put these two bad boys together too.....mirror imaged nearly. Left one was my 1st ever 21 card, right one was my 274th!
Got the Mojo Prizm recently to put this pic together, the only 2 KG Prizm mojos, both 21/25.
A KG collector on Insta made this available...
I now have these 4 out of a possible 5 21/xx from 14-15 Spectra, just missing the base 21/70...
Lastly, I'm getting really close to a pretty damn cool set here. I got 3 or 4 of these in this year and have the missing patch parallel from the middle jersey card incoming.
So I have 6 out of 8 of these jersey numbered. Soon I'll just be missing a jersey 21/99.
Last theme is..
SOMETHING BLUE.
As in blue autos!
I'd been at 25 jersey numbered autos for sometime and wasn't thinking I'd be adding to it anytime soon, but it's been an awesome year for autos - I landed 3. I now have 28 out of a possible 151 KG 21/xx autos that have been made.
Here they are...
Got this one off ebay, which meant I put together all three of KG's 'rookie inspirations/impressions autos jersey numbered. From 01-02, 02-03 and 03-04.
The other 2 are both 21/275.
Along the same lines here's a recent dual auto I picked up of a rookie Dwight Howard and KG.
And lastly....I've kinda shown this one already but it deserves it's own pic, even if it's not quite 'something blue', more black!
it's awesome to have the 04-05 and 05-06 EAP 21/100. The only other KG EAP is from 03-04 and the 21/100 is in a collection in China. Don't think I'll be getting that one any time soon!
