Have seen some twitter reports about this but paid it off as....well twitter.
From ESPN:
[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4303679"]NBA free agency: Ron Artest says he's leaving Houston Rockets for Los Angeles Lakers - ESPN[/ame]

Interesting move by the Lakers. If we can pick him up for the mid level exception, it would be a good price for someone with his talent. He would dramatically improve the Lakers D in the SF position and provide more of a scoring punch than Ariza. However, he didn't get the Crazy Ron nick for nothing. Expect some wild times at practice and some pretty nervous fans! FG% was also an issue this year (cost me dearly in my roto league!), so if both he and Kobe have off shooting nights, expect some out of the blue routs.

The Rodman acquisition / experiment didn't work, but this one may be worth the risk IMO. Couldn't be any less stabilising than The Glove.

Didn't the Celtics pick up Marbury???:blink:

I know who I'd rather have....Phil will keep him in line just like he did with Rodman!!:worthy::worthy:

Keeping him in line is only half the issue. The other half is that Ariza knew his spot as a role player while Artest sees himself as a star and therefore will ask for the ball more and try and dictate things more than Ariza. I can't see Ron giving his ego a miss for the team, but I could be wrong :) Rodman at least knew he was a role player.

hmmm good point! We all know the size of Ron's ego!!!! :woot:

WOW crazy pills really wasn't chasing any $'s- $6 mill a season is a steal if they can keep him under control like Rick did (although it was a contract year)
But he;s a great 3rd option!!
Phil is certainly going to earn his $'s this year if this deal goes through!!!!!
Especially if he's only coaching home games!
Oh well I guess I will not miss him dribbling around for 20 seconds and then throwing up an off-balance contested J!!:lol:

Signs Ariza is on the move?

Definitely. We don't get both of them and this could be pressure on TA.

'Yeah, yeah, you want your 10MIL a season, we can get Artest cheaper...'

It's not the worst thing that could happen. If we can't get Ariza back I welcome the move. The biggest teams we face would be in trouble eg. Boston/Pierce, Cavs/LeBron, Spurs/Jefferson, Denver/Melo. Let me know if I'm forgetting anyone, would love to list them as well.

If Artest came to fit in with LA, and does what he needs to do to get a Championship, it's money. Look what he did single handedly at times with the Rockets. He won't be asked to do the same thing in LA, but like I said, if he comes in professionally minded it's money. I'd pay that to Artest over Ariza anyday. Ariza won't have the same success outside of LA, he fit in the system and we got 1 good year out of him. Ron is proven.

Looks like it's an hour or so from being official.

Artest just wants to win a ring. Obviously he will play more of a role than Ariza did but that's because his abilities are greater too.

He is only signing the mid-level exception to play for the Lakers so I'm sure he will fall into line fine. He did a great job co-existing with some good players in Houston, I think those days are past him. It will be good for the Lakers, give them a bit more bruteness and tenacity.
