2008-09 Atlanta Hawks Season Thread

damn! what a start to the season though.... very impressed by the contribution of the bench, players like evans, murray etc have filled the void of childress. bibby is much more comfortable this year now too. keep it up hawks, im loving it....

Mo Evans is the real deal. Unbelievable game but the Hawks gave it everything they had and went down still swinging. Great shot by one of the greatest players in the game at the moment, and that's why Boston are the reigning champs.

6-1 start, I'm not a huge Atlanta historian but I'd say seems to me like the best start in the last decade. Atlanta have the tools and players to win big and finish top 3, they can definately do it if they bring the same intensity and focus they've brought to the first 7 games.

Just watched the replay of the game, I think this game, more than any of the six wins, shows that the Hawks are a legit team this season. After losing by an average of about 30 at Boston in the playoffs, to lose by one point on a buzzer beater shows how far this team has come...and to do it without Josh Smith!

This will be a good season for Hawks, its been a long time coming.:thumbsup:

bugger dropped another against the nets when we were up.

time to start turning it around otherwise the great start can be an alright start in a couple of games

We really missed Josh Smith tonight. The interior defence was really poor. Brook Lopez dominated inside and Devin Harris seemed to be able to penetrate and either score or draw the foul at will. Whilst Solo has improved to be a better player, he is not the player we need to be coming off the bench when Zaza gets into early foul trouble.

Good to see Marvins three point stroke still going, after going 1/10 for the whole of last season from the 3pt line, it appears his offseason work is really paying off for him.

Devin is on fire....and the Hawks are starting to cool off it would appear.

Indiana @ Indiana will prove another test. Hopefully the boys can step it up again.

def looks like it :(

we just had devin getting inside again to much and to the line

they had 70 ft's in 2 games
thats ridiculous

hopefully we do bounce back next game

Other than a big push early in the 3rd, that was pretty ugly. The interior defense is ugly, we're definitely missing Josh Smith, it also didn't help having Zaza out again. The Nets were hot in the 3rd with 8/8 from 3pt range.

4 games in 5 days is pretty tough, plus all those games were in different cities; and Josh Smith and Zaza were missing. Two days off now, the guys need to get some rest, and get ready for another back-to-back.

Yeah no exscuses but could definately do with J-Smoove back.

But the NBA season is long and it's a battle, the key is bouncing back.

We were never in it. When you have Zaza Pachulia and Solomon Jones as your starting bigs, you're always going to struggle. The first big off the bench is Randolph Morris!! Hopefully Al Horfords injury isnt too serious and doesnt keep him out too long.
Without any presence inside, we give up plenty of points in the paint, and dont score many ourselves, so we rely on outside shooting, which results in plenty of fast break opportunities for the opposing team.
Second game of the back-to-back tomorrow against Washington.
Please be back soon Josh Smith!!

Well that was another ugly game, but it was great to come away with the win. No Josh Smith and no Al Horford and an injured Zaza left us with not much up front. Zaza and Marvin were great on the boards with 18 rebounds and 14 rebounds respectively...and Marvin with that great 3pter late to take the lead. JJ was pretty average but still put up decent numbers getting 19pts, 8rebs and 8 ass. Bibby was the one that got us through the early and mid stages, he played pretty well too.

I understand Al Horford is day-to-day, so he might be back for the next game, and Josh Smith is about a week away. Hopefully we can get those guys back soon and get back to playing the way we did earlier on the season.

Well its was a win, but hardly convincing. Our interior D is still struggling without Smoove, and on offense we look a bit stagnant...Im surprised we scored 100. Al Horford was great in this game, he may have an ugly post game, but you cant argue his hussle and passion - 21 points 9 rebs 3 blks, he was the one that seemed the spark us out of a slump real early in the game.

I thought Solo was good off the bench again, he is playing alot better than Zaza who has been fairly terrible lately. JJ too has been struggling lately, his shot hasnt been dropping and he seems to be losing control of the ball often - he was able to contribute in other ways with 9 assists.

Cant complain about 9-5, next up we have another back-to-back, both away against Toronto, then Washington. On the Hawks broadcast they were saying that Smoove might be back for the Washington game, if not, then he should be back for the game after against Memphis.

Not a bad win today....but like you said...hardly convincing throughout some parts of the game. We have won 3 of our last 4 and after losing 4 straight, thats not too bad.

Horford had his 2nd best game of the year....and with on 31 mins too!! :D

Toronto in Toronto will be tough and we are gonna have to work out a way to stop Bosh if we are going to be any chance. Washington will be an easier game, but we cant be complacent or we might throw away one we shoudl win.

Smoove will be a huge injection when he comes back. I almost hope they rest him for the Washington game just to make sure he comes back 100%. No point in risking him this early in the season.....

1-1 in the last back-to-back @ Toronto and @ Washington. JJ has been struggling lately, looks like his injured toes is impacting him, but Mike Bibby has been really good lately. He was really lighting it up in that first half against Washington.

I thought Zaza was a monster on the boards in that Toronto game, getting 17 and he didnt play at all in the 4th quarter. He re-injured his shoulder and did not play at all in the Washington game.

Solo did pretty well in the Washington game in replacement of Zaza. He got 5 blocks including the one below....

Three days rest now, before we play Memphis then NYK. The off to do the Texas Triangle. Smoove should be back for the Memphis game, we need his imside presence, hopefully the guys can gel quickly and get back to the level of play that we saw at the start of the season.

Go Hawks!

Late post, listened to the game yesterday live, but did not get to see it. For some reason there was no TV broadcast of the game by either the Hawks or Grizz. If the game finished halfway through the 3rd quarter, you would say with Josh Smith back, the Hawks were back playing at the level at the start of the season where they opened with 6 straight wins. They led by 26 at this stage. The Hawks then played their bench more, to try and give the starters some rest (JJ has a buggered toe, Smoove coming back off injury), but they played very poorly. Mo Evans went 0/7 including 0/5 from 3pt. Flip was avergae, Acie didnt do much. Memphis managed to cut the lead to 6 in the 4th, but with the starters back out there, the Hawks steadied the ship to win it by 10.

Great to have Josh back. He was box score stuffing again, playing only 28 mins, but got 14pts 5ast 6rebs 2stl 1 blk. Bibby and Joe shot well too.

NYK tomorrow, then we have a four game road trip - the Texas triangle, plus Miami. Hopefully we can get through that at worse 2-2, then we have an 8 game home stand.

good to have josh back.

al horford has had a few solid games lately hope he keeps it up cause he was in some serious sophomore slump.

i guess the hawks couldn't keep up their undefeated start, but expectations are definately nothing lower than a top 6 seeded playoff berth.

ps. mike bibby is the man.
