Season cut short by greed...

Less demanding than other sports, hence more easily replaced... I feel like I'm going round in circles. It's kind of known that a running back has a window of about 8 years for a career due to all the beating they take. There's my proof...

As for the last part, when it's as close as it is already, and they are already making shedloads, then yes!!
OR - the amount that they are both apart they should agree to put into the communities - help those affected by the depression/natural disasters etc etc. It could do so much more than line the pockets of the already sickeningly-rich (owners AND/OR players)

Less demanding than other sports? I'm not saying Basketball is the MOST demanding, but running up and down a huge court over and over, playing offense and defense you have to be pretty damned fit amongst everything else that is going on. Baseball? That's more demanding? Stand around for most of the game.... pretty demanding.

As for the last part.... still don't agree with you sorry. Plus I'm sure you know that many many players give a lot to charities already and many have their own foundations.

I knew you'd bring baseball up, but that goes back to the specialised skills required... and it's pretty demanding on pitchers arms...

And as for the last part... so you think it's ok for the players and owners to be so greedy in such a tough time financially? Either do something that helps someone other than themselves, or just go back to doing their job... because they're affecting other people's ones by not doing theirs, because they want more money...

The thing is, it's the owners who forked out the several-hundred million bucks for the team in the first place, so they should be entitled to the majority as a return on their 'investment'. Players are employees and contributed nothing to the purchase - though they are the drawcards to the performance...

For sure - but you're forgetting who's making people pay money to watch either live or on tv via rights - the players. Without them there's no damn team to buy??

Here's an article on Stern and what he's doing...

Stern ducks, lets NBA players take hit - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

There has been a fair bit of talk about the league being nothing without the players. At the end of the day the league only works as a whole. Sure the players are a major draw card but there are plenty of amazing players who may have never tried to play NBA for whatever reason. If the players decided to start a league of there own (I am sure others have probably thought of doing this in the past) it would cost the players so much more than there own fortunes to make it work. To start with, what would the rogue league infrastructure be ??? what stadiums and training facilities would they use ? who do they hire to run the league ? Leasing a building is far more expensive in the long run than owning your own (team owners) and remember that all these multi million dollar contracts wont be paid until the dispute ends.
Its also not just the NBA v Players, its NBA and Team owners v Players. The players association is trying to control the situation but my guess is there are a large number of content players who would rather be playing the game the love and not flogging the cash cow ;) End rant

No... what I'm saying is that it takes less specific skill/toughness to play basketball so the players should appreciate what they have and just get on with it... because they would be more easy to replace if they weren't willing to, than the other players of major sports...

The post ljandkg posted summed it up in the nfl one player throws the ball on player catches it one polayer runs with it **** if your a fat person you can play the game and block someone the NBA is the most athletic of the american sports and a player needs to know how to play defence / offence they need to know how to pass / shoot / block / steal one of those lack they probably wont last long you name one other sport where you MUST know all fundementals of the game to survive none of the 3 you mention hairy

You're an idiot mate.

You're an idiot mate.

Maybe not well put but its not that stupid a comment. I think an NBA player could make the transition to the NFL however i could not see an NFL player ever being able to make the transition to play NBA.

Think about LeBron. Based on his size, height and his hands he could probably make a transition to a wide receiver or tight end pretty easy.

Not many NBA players could make it in the NFL. Lebron would be to slow of the mark for a wide receiver. Most wide receivers run flat 10's over 100 meters and sub 4.5 seconds over 40 meters.
Every sport is unique and requires a massive commitment and talent.

LeBron would be a horrible WR. Ever heard of Nate Robinson? Dude was a stud Footballer in HS And Collage, he made it to the NBA pretty easy.

I don't know Nate's college football talents but he certainly has what it takes to make it, he has the speed and is strong. There is a Youtube clip of a receiver jumping up and grabbing a 12 foot high pipe. There would be a few players in the NBA.
Lebron might be able to make it as a Offensive Tackle somewhere, but he would need to bulk up about 30 kg of muscle.

Either way - off topic. I thought this thread was about billionaires fighting with millionaires.

Im really surprised in these disputes that the networks dont get involved given the money they pump into the game.

4.40 over the 40 is seriously fast, but not really super quick for NFL.
Fantastic change of direction, could have played either.

all i can say is now it has become a huge ego fest and basically everyone involved has their chests pumped out and doesnt want to be seen as "caving in" or "weak" so they will continue sitting around having a ****, and eventually the players will cave in so they can get their $$$$, billy hunter says otherwise and that they will never give in, but really the owners have the upper hand...i agree with hairy and think the players are greedy ****ers...when it is all said and done the ones who suffer most are the fans, lets face it if you are like me you have an obsession with basketball and basically feel like a kid in the candy store when the season nears and finally arrives, then these ****ers have to spoil it for everyone else, used to like derek fisher, not anymore....find it funny too that the biggest ****er in the nba (paul pierce) has been involved of late in these talks, here is a thought, maybe he could pull a lakers/celtics finals drama and go off at a break injured and on a stretcher and come back the hero to force the players to slay the "horrible and beastely nba and owners" that pay them peanuts...

just shows what talent the likes of neon deion and bo jackson were. playing football and baseball simultaneously. and danny ainge playing hoops and baseball. neon going so far as playing for different cities! awesome.
AI also was a football prodigy. brushed off winning the high school state championships by saying he had to go out and win the basketball one now...which he did.

SMFH guys. Some of the **** said in this thread is hilarious, some has been laughable, Some has been informative but also some ridiculous crap and plenty of finger pointing. It will only ever be interesting heated jabbering here. Not all of the truth is coming out and probably never will! We get some "inside info" from people like David Aldridge and people on twitter, and then the media spiel from Fisher and Stern and it's interesting to discuss and speculate but no one here can fully know who to point the finger at NOR what they would do once earning the minimum or maximum league wage or Stern wage then be asked to discuss pay cuts and plans for a worldwide league 10 years into the future.

Ah well, said my piece, back to it people!

All I can say as a fan of Basketball........ if I had to pay an extra dollar more for my basketball pay TV, basketball merchandise and basketball cards....

then I will say to the players "scr*w you", then to the owners "scr*w you" and then to Mr Stern "scr*w you"

We are the victims here and we are not contributing any more to your pay packets.
