I am so angry about this. And I completely and utterly blame the greed of the players. The owners want to make money, after all, it IS a business. The players get paid INSANE amounts of money to play a fairly simple game... and all this 'let us play' and 'we want to play' is a load of BS. If they wanted to play they would. Instead they want to be paid.
Case in point - Joe Johnson. Does anybody in the world (other than his agent and the fools that gave him the contract) think he deserves the money he's earning? And the players want MORE share??
F##k off you greedy c###s and play the damn game.

Season isn't necessarily cut short, the league has said they can still fit the 82 games in if the season is only cut by the 2 weeks. It strange to think the players can ask for more money, am I right in thinking they got offered 50%? I mean they work for the owners, when my work makes more money I don't get to massive pay rises.

Having said that I think the players should get more money from shirt sales and merchandise with their names on it.

Let's just hope the same thing doesn't happen to the AFL..........the (last) offer they have been given is more than reasonable IMO.

compared to every other league around the world and the physical toll AFL takes on your body players are not being paid anywhere near enough. Remember without the players there is no game. This goes for the NBA as well. Yes players are being paid huge amounts, but without the product there is no game. Anyone can create a structure around it (aka Kerry Packer and 50 over internationals), but if the talent is not there how will the clubs make their money.

Anyway most owners use sporting clubs, such as the NBA teams, as tax write offs and really don't give two sh*ts about turning a profit.

Also without the fans there is no game. Maybe fans should go on strike and buy no NBA merchandise, go to no games and not watch it on TV. Teach them that it's not all about the players and the owners, but the fans that fill both there pockets.

But the NBA is not a specialised sport... Hockey you have to be skilled and rough. Football you have to be damn tough. Baseball is very specific skills. Basketball? Who can't chuck a ball into a hoop.
The NBA gets by on star power, but the stars are already VERY WELL PAID... hell, even the bums are WELL PAID...

Tell that to Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade etc etc

Of course its a specialised sport. Every professional sport is. There is a reason only a select few get to play at that level.

By your reasoning you and I could walk onto an NBA team and dominate. Would love to see you take on Lebron and even get close to scoring.

Seriously Angry this has to be one of most stupid things I have ever read.

So your telling me if the Lebron etc of this world didn't play in the NBA that the fans would still turn up to watch........ I think not.

If Lebron etc all went and started a new league the fans would just migrate to that. The fans follow the players.

Without the players the NBA is just a corporate structure........ nothing else

^Where did I say that? I'm saying if no fans turned up to watch game or spent any of there money on NBA gear there would be no games at all. Why would owners pay players if nobody was spending money on tickets/jeresys ect ect.

I'm saying the fans will always be there as long as the entertainment and quality is there. If you take that away then the fans will leave.

Yeah I know that. That's why I'm saying fans going on "strike" from the game would teach them a lesson.

I might be wrong but I believe that the AFL is rated 4th in the world for average gate entries.
I think NFL is one, followed by IPL, not sure of number three, but the AFL is very close. Regardless of the numbers the NBA puts up, they are getting to big a slice of the pie.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, huge recession in America and the players want more money. The future of the NBA could be in China like India did with Cricket.

**** off and read what I said.

I didn't say you don't have to be skilled, and I know some players do some remarkable things - but the other sports the players put their body on the line more, or do what a lot of people can't do at all - eg pitch 8 shutout innings...

ANYBODY can put a ball in a hoop. Obviously some people are much better than others. But they are entertainers and getting paid big bucks to play a game many people love. Now they're not playing, and trying to pretend that they wish they could be playing, when they're just holding out for more 'undeserved' money...

Thanks Jaames, I was close. AFL should be proud of those numbers, 4th on average attendances. Double the average number at a NBA game.
And they take 23% compared to 53%.
There's no stats on this site for IPL, it was on the news just last weekend and was listed as second behind NFL. I'm sure of that.

I am very disappointed with this lockout - After years of having a break from NBA I got back into it 2 years ago. Since I have gone mad on everything NBA e.g. clothes, games, cards, booble heads lol. I always wait for the start of November but now it looks like there will be nothing to wait for. I just feel really sorry for the small businesses out there like cafes or pubs close to the arenas that are packed every time a game is played. Now they are facing the reality of firing staff members who are single parents and so on, I mean this is reality its not just words.

They have had plenty of time to resolve this and come to an agreement. These guys are only making money because of us fans and when there is fans in america that are going through a really rough time personally with the recession its sickening that these guys are fighting over money when they all have more than enough. I think the people on here can understand where I am coming from when I say its not just a sport its something that you look forward to watching, reading about, playing, fantasy teams and all that stuff and it gives you something else to look forward to when your team plays and now there is nothing.
