Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

Wow..... this is such a shame. Can't really blame OKC for doing it though and not sure where Hardens decision making process was at, but if it was just about the extra money then that is $hit!

Gonna really miss watching him play @ OKC with the other boys, but on the other hand interested to see how he can go as a starter.

We got some nice pickups out of this deal with the 2 first-rounders (do they have any protection and who are they from?) and Lamb, but not overly keen on Martin, he's an awful defender and is as one-dimensional as they come.

Toronto is lottery-protected. The other one is from the Lakers I think.

Other first rounder is from Dallas I think?

Second rounder is from New Orleans!

isn't there a 5 year contract that okc wasn't offering? not just the money

Sort of! It is a 4 year $60m offer after this year. OKC were offering $13m per year apparently.

I think it isn't just about the actual amount, but more about him being a 'max deal' player!

IMO basketball is all about game winners and game changers. Most guys can 'accumulate' and get you the numbers but it is the special ones that win you games and titles. Harden was one of the specials ones and can change a game in a heartbeat like mj, Kobe, ginobili etc. I certainly think Houston won out but an interesting point a few posts earlier if he can do that as a starter.

Hes a mad player, no offense intended bro but when i was reading your post this one kinda hit me from left field.

Yeh the news about Harden is massive. Me? Id have thought he should stay and chase for a Championship ring. Houston is a fresh start, he seemed to have struggled as a starter last season. All the best to him.

I don't think he was putting Ginobili in the same level as MJ and Kobe, but as far as players that can come up and take control of a game when needed, Manu is definitely one that can! Like Harden at times too!

I can't believe James Harden traded to Houston. But Kevin Martin is a good player for OKC, incl RC Jeremy Lamb.
James Harden wasn't a starter most of the time for OKC. But with Houston he will start every single game. He doesn't want to be a "6th player of the Year". I would want to be a full-time starter, every game!

What to do with these cards now?

u could always donate to the ozguy collection haha

Read this yesterday and WOW!!!I think OKC should have given the Max deal to Harden not Ibaka, like others have said he can pile on pts quick!!!He can run, pull up and shoot drive the lane and shoot the 3 ball, I mean they still have Perkins who is a great defensive post man, im not sure either team here wins i think it was about equal, Kevin Martin is no superstar injury prone for the past few seasons!! he may relish in his new position, as for Harden will he flourish in a starters role at Houston?who knows i guess we will find out who really wins out?

Now where does this sit OKC and Houston??Does OKC squander another Title run? Does Houston get better or worse??
The thing with OKC it may effect a guy like Westbrook becoz they were all close????, Durant seems to pretty level headed guy, i think mentally he will keep it together.......Will Martin have the same impact as Harden off the Bench??

Huge call on OKC Front Office we all claim to be experts but like i said earlier have to wait till the season gets underway!!

No sir. No title run for okc unfortunately. You have to have the bench power, odom, ginobili, terry, allen, all crucial in their trams title runs. You just have to have a spark when all is flat. Sure durant will get his and Westbrook won't die not giving everything. Greg pop always says no ginobili no title!!

Seems to have been very driven by luxury tax concerns; I remember reading about how the 'smart' teams will start pressing the reset buttons on rookie deals by trading a guy ready for a new deal for a rookie (ie George Hill to Indy for a pick).

I'll be interested to see how Harden deals with being the man in HOU, although I think in McHale's PG-centric system, Lin will still be a big scorer.

I'm intrigued how Martin and Lamb (plus draft picks) were what OKC got; both have reps as shooters. Maybe that was deemed more important by the OKC brass?

Either way, at least Harden gets the opportunity to really prove himself. Something that he was never going to get at OKC with the others. It would suck to go through your career always the 6th man when everone is saying how much potential you have...

Hope he does well.

But even if Harden did sign the $52mil deal, they would have been within $300k of the cap with only 4 players next year! So they would have been well into cap zone unless it was all Vet minimum from there on? Right?
If it was about tax, then clearly they had no intention of keeping him beyond 2013 anyway!
