In your opinion, what is the holy grail for (basketball/nba) card collecting?

With the purchase of fleer by upper deck, I would have thought the holy grail would be:

BGS 10 (actually, I don't care that much about card grading, it's silly...)
86/87 Fleer Michael Jordan auto'ed RC buyback (not sure if such card exists? I'm pretty sure those boys at UpperDeck had toyed with the idea since they bought fleer)

This card (if it exists) should put all arguments to rest.

Your thoughts?

I think cut auto is 5 copies...for pete pistol, but i would consider that as holy grail.. it's really hard to get.. first autos of pete and very scarce...

I think UD Chronology is going to have a 1/1 Cut auto of Dr James Naismith, that would have to be somewhere near the top :D

I guess it depends on wether its THE holy grail or your own personal holy grail....The holy grail would have to be an exquisite bron rc /99 bgs 10 but on a personal note the card I've always wished to own (and hopefully will one day) is a Bosh Exquisite RC /99.

Good point Jimbo and most collectors don't know the relevance of some cards on the hobby or even heard of them as they are old, obscure or not mainstream.

Cards like a Mikan's lays or bread for energy shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as a BGS Lebron James.

If you want to include a giant list of vintage then this is pretty close but I disagree with a few though.

Wouldn't be a MJ RC, they are too abundant. Baseball has it's Wagner T-206, so Basketball would have to be something older maybe? more scarce?

exactly. As a collector from the 00's+ years, I would automatically think of Lebron James cards, Michael Jordan cards and a mixture of the rarest auto's of guys like Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett & Kobe Bryant as well as Shaq and AI as the rarest type of cards you could obtain.

But then again, seeing as I'm from this futuristic generation, can't forget the vintage cards which are so much more scarce, such as the ones Chad has been listing.

Huge list there Chad.

QUite a few great cards in that list. And a lot that I and most would not have heard of.

I love VIntage cards and there are a lot of non-mainstream cards in that list. Very rare and very expensive.

I could only dream of owning those cards...........there's just too many of them and if I got into them, I would be sooooooooooo frustrated in trying to get them all.
