Thats because there is media OVERLOAD supplied with your two players you mention. Mr Game 7 for the Celts is actually Sam Jones not Bird, Pierce etc etc
Just go ask on any Celts board JZA and you will get the same answer, a decent one though and there are plenty with members that have seen the Celts in many different decades and dynasties.
Its not all about the last shot and most coaches would say they would rather be up by 10 than in that position to start with.
I saw Bird at his best and was his biggest fan as those around me can attest to that. I was Bird crazy and still am. But Bird has simply grown and grown and come to the status he is held in today due to time he played in.
Back when Hondo and Cousy played their winning was taken for granted and some thought it would even kill the league as people turned off sick of seeing the Celts win title after title.
There is a reason Hondo is in the rooms and brought in so much these days. And there is a reason I've come even as the huge Bird fan I am to accept that Bird is one helluva player but overated on the whole these days.
And that overating is mostly done by non celtic fans I've noticed not talking about you guys but on the whole really.
Just my imo and what I've read by many Celts fans of many generations.
So no I don't rate Bird number one as the greatest when I don't rate him as the Celts number one of all time.
If you put some fire in McHales belly I would of taken him in front of Bird too.
