I was curious to see the impact this years retirements will have on the league....so I need some stats...I came up with the following-

2007 - 41 Retirements
8080 games experience
Avg of 197 games per player

2006 - 22 Retirements
4576 games experience
Avg of 208 games per player

I was a bit surprised by the 2006 Avg games figure being higher...but the 2007 figure is brought down by a few players being under 100 games and 1 player with 0 games played. (All the info came from Wikipedia)
At the end of the day it's the sheer number of players leaving the league this year that will have the biggest impact on the game.

Thats a lot of retired players for 1 year...

Some awesome players in the group... although i suppose there always is with retirements... Some big surprises as well... and can you really be retired if you actually never played a game?? They never really started so how can they finish(retire)??? hmmmmm... interesting....

Yeh thats weird, retiring with no games lol...

This years retiring crop is huge...Brownlows Medallists, B&Fs, Coleman Medallists

Rhys Archard (Adelaide - 0 games) has to be considered as retired because he was on the Adelaide list and wasn't delisted, sacked or traded.
He actually quit to go back home to his family's farm in Victoria.

Peter Riccardi retired one year before the premiership....I wonder if he wish he had have played on....I don't think he would have got too many games this year though!!

He should have retired after 2005; he only managed a hadful of games in 2006, with Buckley like hamstring problems.

Interesting to note that Shane Parker, Fremantle games record holder is retiring. He was a fairly unsung player, and wasnt ever the best player on the field, but he always played hard on some of the best forwards in the game for a defence, and Freo's defence will miss him.
