I teach aboriginal students and work coaching for the Panthers....The koori boys really look up to this guy.....

you can see why AFL is taking a stranglehold on league....

no brains truely.....

its not jut an NRL thing, Col Sylvia went to court for kicking his girlfriend. He got off lightly as no one knew who he was.

AFL or NRL doesn't matter. These young kids coming into play first grade don't have the socials skills or education. They should be taught how to be men before they start playing a mans game.

Wasn't it about this time last year that we had the whole Greg Bird fiasco?

Didn't the Daily Telegraph promise to keep scandals off the back page of the paper for the rest of the Season? I'd like to see how they avoid this one....they'll probably put it on the front page instead.

Its just poor form to even hear of these incidents occuring. Such a great player :( its a real shame. no excuse for this behaviour. He shouldnt be a role model to young children if he cant even act like a man

Sports persons are NOT role models for children!
Parents, family members, teachers, police officers, news reporters etc are the real role models.
Nrl/Afl players are not men, they get picked to play the game at such a young age that they don't have time to become real men. It is sad too see but life experience does make a difference!

I think my grandson would say otherwise to that. He adores Johnathan Thurston and wants to be as good as he is someday. i believe you could say that thurston is his 'role model' :) i know sporting people dont make good role models. But they are still seen as role models by children

Wasn't thurston @ the Dogs during their "scandal" ?

Anyway Inglis, shame shame shame!

No matter what anyone says they are role models to kids...

They are not role models, that's what parents like to say to off load responsibility.

At least the prison system will have a really gun NRL team next year.:lol:

Nice call!

And u guys are kidding ur selves. me being a 14 yr old myself i look up to sports people such as Ablett and judd so u guys are bull s****** us cos u have no idea what u are talking about. They are our role models, we can kinda relate to them (by their sport) not bloody news readers

It is a real shame that individual incidents of players bring down the whole image of their respected sport. It is extremely unfair to the other 1000's of professional players (at all levels),coaches, support staff, club members etc across all codes who do a great job in their club & the community. Incidents happen every day but if you do not have a profile it is not media savvy. It should be the individuals punished not the club, league or sports as a whole. On the flip side the individual needs support & professional help as there is obviously a problem that needs to be addressed & managed. Lets address the the issues & not the outcome. These incidents do not start over night, find the triggers & manage them! Craig z240

14 years old your full of bull s**t, what would you know?
you only see these athletes for a few hours a week on tv and you call them role models loll
i am quite sure you see your parents, teachers and news presenters more often then the athletes.
kids place too much emphasis on sports people being persons they look up to, a very sad situation.

How can you say what kids think when SKWARNE23 is 14 and thinks that sports people are role models? i think your on the wrong end of the arguement mate
Just my 2c

that's the view of 1 14 year old! it's just a load of crap that players are seen as role models when they themselves have a brain of a 14 year old.

Fair enough. it might seem like "a load of crap" to you. But you cant deny that children see these men as role models. That is all im saying. Any young football player (in a junior club across this country) would look up to the superstars. And any child who watches the players and truely admires them sees them as role models. Just look at public signings, children wouldnt bother getting photos with and autographs from people who wernt worth their time.
