Insurance claim will be back dated for when the injury occurred (January).

I would rather play for no points and keep the nucleus of this squad together and challenge next year. We have a top 4 side on paper and if we keep it together we won't have to rebuild setting us back further

Brad Arthur is doing an amazing job keeping the boys spirits up, if you cut him open blue and gold would come out.

I reckon the NRL will pass the watmough injury compensation pay out and watch us come out firing against Souths :)

12 from 15 with the run we have going into the finals. It's possible

You didn't mention which year his January injury occurred. I do agree that I think the NRL will be generous however I think the decision will fall to the insurance company not the NRL.

Also if you keep the same squad together for next year you will be over the cap again. Norman is off contract and surely he is due an upgrade from the $500k he is reportedly on he is rumoured to be asking $850k+.

Then all your other off contract players are pretty much nuffies on small coin:

Mitch Cornish, Isaac De Gois, Bureta Faraimo, Tyrell Fuimaono, Michael Gordon, James Hasson, Luke Kelly, Cameron King, Kieren Moss, Cody Nelson, Corey Norman, Rory O'Brien, Nathan Peats, Scott Schulte, Kelepi Tanginoa, Vai Toutai, Honeti Tuha, Joseph Ualesi, Danny Wicks, Matthew Woods

Stay positive I love your passion but the Eels are done this year and then IMO another one to rebuild. Eels to make semis in 2018.

With Watmough's retirement won't that still come under the cap unless he is paid out by Insurance?

That is how I understood it.

Apparently Ryan MATTERSON who debuted the other week for the Roosters was a Parra reserve grader on a second tier contract and by the Roosters debuting him it activated 70k of Parra's second tier salary cap

maybe if they were square at marker you may have been awarded the penalty and the field goal would not have been allowed.

Maybe Segeyaro should have been penalised for being 3 meters offside on the last charge down?

We could go back and forth all day with calls that should have gone to our respective teams. I don't have any dramas with Penrith winning, they played well and are a good, tough team. I just hate the inconsistency of the officials and would prefer that they didn't come out and admit a mistake, leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

If Lachlan Coote and James Roberts can take unders to stay with the cows or Broncs when they were reportedly being offered up to 150-200k more elsewhere im sure eels should be able to lodge the same contracts with players taking unders.

Watmoughs latest injury happened in January 2016, was injured in training by beau Scott

We don't have that greater side when you compare us to the Broncs (10 internationals).

we will of course lose junior Paulo to raiders at seasons end, but that was happening before this stuff happened.

We are only 570k over at this stage and losing watmough will clear that for 2017 which will bring it level to the salary cap for then. We have lost junior who would of been on 250k for argument sake this year which combined with watmoughs $$ should be enough to re-sign Norman

Put it simple watmough was reportedly on 750k for the next couple of seasons.

Take 750k for watmoughs position in the squad and pretty much give it to Norman and we are just about there with re-signing Norman (if he takes unders that would be about it) or worse case we won't have Luke Kelly or Isaac degois next season and that would more then clear enough for Normans deal to be done

So if our players decide to take less then market value and stay at the eels the NRL surely won't have a leg to stand on with the Lachlan coote's and James Roberts of the world taking less then market value.

Nrl has never had double standards have they??

Can't take less money after it's been decided on and lodged.....

By that I meant going forward

We have Norman and peats off contract, if say we offered Norman 750k where other clubs were offering him 850k and he was happy with the conditions of our contract he would be on less then 'market' rate but we would only lodge the 750k with the NRL.

Losing watmough and junior Paulo will be the only players that are considered top first graders (money wise) we will lose

One thing to keep in mind, while you lose the amount for Watmough and Paulo for next year, you need to replace them with players to make up your top 25......I believe the minimum is 80k per player so you need to take that into account.

I reckon Parra should just bite the bullet and says count us out for this year, come back next year with the nucleus of the team intact and be a contender. It also buys them time to sort out their cap.

They would get until November instead of 10 days.

I'm thinking that's the way to do it rather then have a fire sale and knock us back 3-5 years building a competitive squad.

Would be nice if we get compliant this year.

Short term pain for long term gain.

We will be a top 4 side with the nucleus of the squad we have developed over the past few years

Parra could have a lot worse people at the helm coaching them then Brad Arthur at the moment.

The players respect him so much.

Don't discount the Brad Arthur factor in players wanting to hang around under him going forward.

That would work and then you could top up is salary with 3rd Party agreements :p

I actually prefer that they come out and admit when they are wrong, that's the only way they will earn respect. I don't expect refs to get everything correct as nobody else should. The only way they will be consistent is to go back to one ref

I have been saying it for years regarding the 3rd party deals

It should be like American sports, every player owns their own image, if they carry on like a Mitch Pearce it hurts then where it hurts them most (the hip pocket).

That way there is no ifs and buts the only thing that the NRL has to worry about is what the playing contract is lodged for.

Also more should be done for long term/juniors that has spent a lot of $$ on these kids from when some of them have been 14 years old in the system

Foran taking legal action against the jackie o show from kiis fm for saying that the child he and his partners kid isn't his.

Good on him I say.

Sounds like if watmough retires we are under the cap :)

And one last bit of news heard brad takairangi is going to be playing for nz tomorrow night as skd is out

Ryan morgan is also off to Melbourne Storm so that helps bring the cap down aswell. I'm soo happy for takairangi, it will be interesting if they face him off on the same side as Radradras.

there is some media speculation that they have mis-counted our salary cap breach figure

With watmough moving on very soon and Morgan leaving we may have room to make some mid year signings yet lol

I can't wait for all this to be over so the players, coach and fans can move pass this and get back to playing football

With it being a preliminary hearing or whatever they called it on Tuesday, would there be any chance we could get some points back??!!
