I think team collecting is a lot easier than a single player, lots of cheaper cards of non star players to be had to build up your collection. If you do go a single player, just make sure you choose someone likely to be around a few years, even better if they've been around a couple too. Nothing worse than building up a collection only to see the guy drop out of the league, which happens a lot in the NFL...
While the "Young Gun" QB's most likely will be around for a while at least, they're also mega expensive to collect, and unless they continue being very successful, once the hype wears off their card values sink pretty quickly.
