Found this on another site and thought is was interesting.

I agree with most of it....but what are your thoughts?

Position is judged on both form and a little bit of reputation as with Mike Sheehan's.

1. Lance Franklin - Hawthorn
15.7 Disposals 6.5 Marks 5.0 Goals

Yep he is the best, most in form player in the competition so far this year. He is virtually unstoppable and it's highlighted more with a good side around him. On target for 100 goals in a day of zone defenses, and double teams.

Kicked 5 on the weekend when Hawthorn were soundly beaten and there midfield was off a little.

2. Gary Ablett - Geelong
28.4 Disposals 5.1 Marks 6.1 Tackles 1.2 Goals 4.2 Clearances

The it and a bit midfielder going around right now. He has all the attributes of Chris Judd at his best. Blistering speed away from the pack, ability the dispose of the ball in tight situations and comes up with clutch goals when needed most. A real game breaker that gets a heap of footy.

3. Jonathan Brown - Brisbane
13.9 Disposals 7.4 Marks 3.7 Goals

At his best, would command 1 or 2. At the minute his form is building and isn't far away and his best this season is to come. Has a few injury clouds right now, but is starting to dominate games as we stretch to the important stage of the year.

4. Matthew Richardson - Richmond
19.4 Disposals 11.5 Marks 2.7 Goals

With a change of position, Richardson is in career best form at the ladder stage of his career. Playing off a wing and has dominated games this year. Is starting to pick up some niggles, but at this stage is deserving of a top 5 position.

5. Simon Black - Brisbane
28.2 Disposals 5.2 Tackles 4.9 Clearances

Did anyone say the word Brownlow. That is the type of form he is in. There are a few midfielders taking the game by storm right now, but Black just keep going about it like he always has racking up disposals and using them.

6. Adam Cooney - Bulldogs
26.2 Disposals 4.1 Marks 1.6 Goals 4.4 Clearances

Has hit the stage of his career where he is now fit enough to run through the midfield instead of spending time in the middle and then up forward. The best thing about Cooney is he kicks goals from the midfield as well.

7. James Bartel - Geelong
25.8 Disposals 6.2 Tackles 3.3 Clearances

You hear of Brownlow medalist having form slumps the year after. Not so with Bartel. Continues to dominate games of footy week in week out and rarely has an off day. Bartel and Ablett are the perfect combo.

8. Dean Cox - West Coast
21.7 Disposals 5.7 Marks 25.9 Hitouts

Clearly the best ruckman in the league. Still wins the majority of hit outs, a good number of which are too advantage and he plays the game like a tall midfielder.

9. Matthew Pavlich - Fremantle
17.4 Disposals 6.9 Marks 3.1 Goals

Has lost ground on the top 10, possibly due to the players around him. Still has a solid impact on every game of footy he plays up forward and works his tail off to help his team mates.

10. Chad Cornes - Port Adelaide
24.4 Disposals 7.5 Marks 3.8 Clearances

Had great form early on until receiving a finger injury, but when he returned he picked up where he left off playing very good, consistant football. A genuine superstar.

11. Chris Judd - Carlton
24.6 Disposals 5.1 Tackles 4.8 Clearances

A credit to the man. He seems to be playing on 1 leg, yet he still wins plenty of football and uses it. Once his pace and explosive comes back (if it does) he will climb back up the list.

12. Matthew Scarlett - Geelong
15.6 Disposals 3.5 R50 5.1 One%

Best defender in the game sitting at full-back. His attacking style of play sets him apart from other full backs and is one of the most vital cogs in the reigning premiers side.

13. Daniel Kerr - West Coast
22.4 Disposals 3.1 Tackles 6.1 Clearances

Has spent a little time on the sidelines with suspension and injury, but at his best, and early he was in good touch and his good form warrants him top 15 easily. Finding it a little tougher without Juddy, Cousins, and a team in form.

14. Sam Mitchell - Hawthorn
28.8 Disposals 3.6 Marks 6.7 Clearances

The Hawks captain is a very good, consistant footballer who continually brings his team mates into the game using his quick, clever hands. One of the better engine room players in recent history.

15. Luke Power - Brisbane
23.2 Disposals 5.8 Tackles 4.6 One%

Classy small midfielder who rarely, if ever, makes a skill error and consistently brings his key forwards into the game with precise movement going forward.

16. Nick Riewoldt - St. Kilda
14.8 Disposals 8.8 Marks 2.0 Goals

Similar story to that of Pavlich. He carries more injuries though than Pav. Still good enough to have a solid impact, but at times is surrounded by un-confident stagnant player. Still a star.

17. Luke Hodge - Hawthorn
21.5 Disposals 5.0 Tackles 6.0 One%

Temporarily on the sidelines, but extremely consistent now, and deadly when he has the footy. One of the better players to watch when on song, which is most weeks these days. Would be higher if not for injury.

18. Alan Didak - Collingwood
23.3 Disposals 6.7 Marks 1.6 Goals

Back into the spotlight with a rocket (instead of a gun). Consitantly getting good numbers and bests performances. Wastes non of his ball, and kicks goals as a midfielder. A game breaker.

19. Joel Corey - Geelong
29.3 Disposals 5.7 Tackles 6.2 One%

The more under rated cog in the Geelong midfield. Gets big numbers, and generally uses the footy, wins a lot of ball in close which also gives Ablett plenty of service.

20. Jason Akermanis - Bulldogs
19.2 Disposals 6.7 Marks 2.2 Goals

He's in full flight right now, which is a guaranteed top 20 for him. So flashy and special that when he is going he attracts attention. Will poll votes this year in a flashy side.

21. Ryan O'Keefe - Sydney
20.9 Disposals 4.6 Marks 4.1 Tackles 1.0 Goals

If you don't rate O'Keefe you're a penaut. The perfect half forward. Leg speed, strength and poise. Just a beautiful player to watch.

22. Kane Cornes - Port Adelaide
26.7 Disposals 6.6 Marks 3.2 Tackles

The best run with player in the league, because he will shut you down, pick up 25 and hurt you with them. Sensational tough of guts footballer who goes about his business in the best fashion.

23. Steve Johnson - Geelong
17.2 Disposals 6.4 Marks 2.2 Goals

Possibly the best full time forward pocket in the league. On his day he is brilliant, on an off day his performance is good. Is given plenty of opportunity to get the footy through a good midfield.

24. Daniel Bradshaw - Brisbane
10.8 Disposals 5.4 Marks 4.3 Goals

Has been unstoppable for the best part of this year after a knee reco last season. You have to give him the credit he deserves. He kicks plenty of goals and makes his side perform better with an extra target.

25. Brendan Fevola - Carlton
11.2 Disposals 5.4 Marks 4.0 Goals

Playing with a bunch of turkeys, but still manages to kick goals with poor delivery except from a select few in his side. On his day, is as good to watch as any player in the comp.

26. Adam Goodes - Sydney
20.0 Disposals 4.2 Marks 3.5 Tackles 4.3 Clearances

No where near his Brownlow winning form, but still having a major impact on games when it's his turn. Averages a touch under 20, but break lines which is a major part of the modern game.

27. Brent Harvey - Kangaroos
23.3 Disposals 5.0 Marks 3.2 Tackles 3.1 Clearances

Continues to keep on keeping on. Hasn't put the score on the board as often this year, but is playing more minutes in the midfield due to Thomas and Campbell playing up forward. A consistent ball winner, and good user.

28. Robert Murphy - Bulldogs
17.9 Disposals 9.4 Marks 2.0 Goals

Has come on this year after injury problems in 06 and 07. Has always been an immense talent but is now putting it all together. As important as any to the bulldogs side.

29. Dane Swan - Collingwood
25.9 Disposals 7.5 Marks 3.3 Tackles 3.3 Cl
earances

Wins huge amount of the football, break lines, and uses the footy going forward and puts through the occasional goal, and what's more impressive is he doesn't spend all that much time on the field due to rotations. Probably the biggest ball magnet in the game for the minutes he plays, but lacks the class of a few others.

30. Brett Kirk - Sydney
22.3 Disposals 7.5 Tackles 4.5 Clearances 5.6 One%

On pure talent, wouldn't make the list, but courage and determination put him well inside the list. He wins games for Sydney due to his determination and grunt and wills them over the line on several occasions throughout the season.

31. Scott Pendlebury - Collingwood
22.7 Disposals 5.3 Marks 5.4 Tackles 4.9 One%

His form at present probably warrants higher because he is getting outstanding numbers and doesn't waste a possession, but his age says he still needs to pay some dues before he moves higher up the list. Has been in stellar form since round 3.

32. Paul Chapman - Geelong
21.1 Disposals 5.8 Marks 3.8 Tackles 1.5 Goals 3.9 One%

A real barometer for the cats. They play better when he is stationed up forward. He consistently pulls down a big game breaking mark, and kicking important goals. Class footballer.

33. Aaron Sandilands - Fremantle
15.7 Disposals 4.4 Marks 3.9 Clearances 30.4 Hitouts 3.7 One%

Is growing as a footballer (thankfully not in height) and has become the 2nd best ruckman going around and has been a shining light for Freo, because he has been threatening for a few years now.

34. Lenny Hayes - St. Kilda
24.3 Disposals 7.1 Tackles 6.7 One%

A real engine room player that puts his head over the ball and would have vomited when called soft by Ross Lyon. Committed to the cause and has battled through some hard times.

35. Chance Bateman - Hawthorn
23.0 Disposals 6.0 Marks 3.1 Clearances 32. Tackles 3.7 One%

Starting to find his best, most consistent football now. Continually gets the footy inside and outside and not afraid to run a carry which is important when you have good KP forwards.

36. Daniel Motlop - Port Adelaide
10.8 Disposals 4.3 Marks 2.9 Goals 3.2 One%

Has always had the talent, but is finally delivering. His past 6 weeks have been stunning, doing the impossible over and over which is a pleasure to watch.

37. Darren Milburn - Geelong
19.1 Disposals 6.8 Marks 4.4 One%

Still rated very highly and still gets the job done. Attacks well off half back and sets up plenty of play while stopping his opponent on most occasions. Very good footballer.

38. Peter Burgoyne - Port Adelaide
24.1 Disposals 4.3 Marks 4.3 R50 3.8 One
%

Has gone past his brother as a footballer again, and is used on many movements forward from defense by Port due to his run, carry and sublime use of the footy. Warrants a spot no doubt.

39. Cameron Ling - Geelong
24.1 Disposals 4.2 Marks 3.5 Tackles 3.2 One
%

I don't like him as a footballer, but he warrant a spot because he is very very rarely beaten. His engine is his strength because it helps him go with his opponent and also gather the footy.

40. Brad Johnson - Bulldogs
16.9 Disposals 6.5 Marks 2.0 Goals 3.1 I50

Fallen down the list a lot, but has been carrying a bad niggly. At his best he is one of the better going around, but hasn't had the same impact this year.

41. Nathan Foley - Richmond
24.0 Disposals 5.2 Tackles 4.6 Clearances 4.5 One%

Has come on with a rocket and is still improving as a footballer. Wants to work hard to improve his game and has gone past just being a ball magent to be a good user of the footy as well.

42. Craig Bolton - Sydney
17.7 Disposals 7.3 Marks 4.0 R50 4.9 One%

The lynch pin of the Sydney defense and the leader of it. Does tough jobs each week and not afraid to command the footy and generally uses it. Very good, solid player.

43. Brad Sewell - Hawthorn
24.3 Disposals 4.8 Marks 5.1 Tackles 3.7 One%

Continually under rated, and probably is here too. Just works hard, and keep running all day. Icing on the cake in the Hawthorn midfield because he can do a shut down job, or be attacking.

44. Brett Burton - Adelaide
15.3 Disposals 7.7 Marks 2.8 Goals

Has had a good year to date. Leads strong and hard up forward and then does the abnormal when in the air. Great hands and has played a lone hand most of the year in the Adelaide forward line.

45. Heath Shaw - Collingwood
22.8 Disposals 8.2 Marks 4.9 R50

With McLeod, is the most attacking footballer from defense in the league, but has gone quiet at times with added attention. Most people rate him higher than myself, but he is a good footballer and worthy of a spot, maybe higher. Has plenty of courage.

46. Scott Thompson - Adelaide
26.4 Disposals 6.0 Tackles 5.7 One%

Really good midfielder now and has added run and carry and a little bit of toughness to the Adelaide midfield. Continues to improve and is solid all round.

47. Shaun Burgoyne - Port Adelaide
20.0 Disposals 4.0 Marks 2.1 Goals 4.6 One%

So good when in full flight, but hasn't delivered what he promised after 2006. If he was more consistent he would be very high because is talent is sublime.

48. Nick Dal Santo - St. Kilda
22.5 Disposals 4.4 Marks 4.7 Tackles

His skills are good, his ability to bring players into the game is good, but he lacks a toughness on his inside game, plus he goes missing at times. Have previously had him higher, but players have gone past him.

49. Daniel Cross - Bulldogs
26.5 Disposals 5.7 Marks 5.9 Tackles 4.9 One%

Like Sewell, under rated for way too long and still is. Unfortunately I couldn't put him in front of anyone else, but he's a gun. Not as flashy as others.

50. Nathan Jones - Melbourne
19.4 Disposals 3.1 Tackles 0.8 Goals 3.7 Clearances

Get on this boy for next Melbourne captain. He is one out of the box. Loves the hard stuff and is already the best footballer at his club (maybe not on talent). A real goer.

Thats a good list. Thanks for posting it.

I think Matthew Richardson and Pavlich are too high, and that Sam Mitchell, Robert Murphy and Scott Thompson should be a bit higher.

Some of the names in the 'on the fringe' list are very surprising. David Rodan???

Pretty good list...agree with most of the top 12...

But there are a few players who should be higher...

Daniel Cross (49), Brad Sewell (43), Paul Chapman (32), Dane Swan (29), Robert Murphy (28), Kane Cornes (22) should be higher...

Pavlich (9), Power (15) and Fevola (25) should be lower...

When Kerr makes (13) despite a pretty miserable season, its questionable why McLeod should miss out

Defenders have for the most part missed out...apart from Scarlett (12) who is a Gun, extremely influential, and should be in Pavlich's position (who i rate about equal with Reiwoldt, around #13-4)

That said look for Pav to have a strong secoond half of the season and justify his ranking. And look for kids like Murphy and Deledio to be shooting up the ranks.

Also when Bradshaw makes (24), shouldn't Roughead be on the list?

Neway. I like the Top 50, better than SHeahan could have managed!

Just for fun-

My Top 20
1 Franklin
2 Ablett
3 Brown
4 Black
5 Cooney
6 Bartell
7 Cox
8 Mitchell
9 Scarlett
10 Richardson
11 Judd
12 C. Cornes
13 Pavlich
14 Reiwoldt
15 K. Cornes
16 Goodes
17 Kerr
18 Hodge
19 Goodwin
20 Murphy / Chapman / Didak

Where is Simon Goodwin? Surely he's top 50...or at least on the fringe...i though, rate him a lot higher!

wouldnt say jono brown at number 3 i mean hes had a good year but that only started 3 weeks ago where he kicked 6 and where 10 games in the other gameshe was crap it was all bradshaw.

the way i saw it not completely on form, also reputations ie who you'd want in your team for the second half of the season

Ablett should be number 1, Franklin at 2. I also think would move Brown out to 6 and move cooney to 4 and Richo up to 3 as reward for their phenomonal Season.

Judd shouldn't be that high either, he's not the same player he was and won't have a chance of getting it back until he completely fixes up his groins.

I think Pendelbury is lucky to be in there. He will be a great player, but he's not better than Heath Shaw, yet he is above him on the list.

But that's the beauty of these things, it's all a matter of opinion.

Good too see you all have your own opinions. It isn a list i compiled but as you suggested the ranking are also based a little bit on reputation (Judd, Pav) and potential (Pendelbury)....

I for one reckon it was a great list....very close to spot on....but as someone said....these things are also a great point of discussion!!
