The Official BOSTON CELTICS thread

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Another poor 4th qtr performance from the Celts and Washingtoncome from 14 back in the 4th!!! Basically the Celtics offence seems to disintegrate in the 4th! Other than 4 pts from KG in the last 5 minutes I don't think we hit anything! Terrible to listen to - Rondo wasn't playing in the 4th and that doesn't help but it was a very flat performance.

Mad props to Caron Butler who was poor in the 1st half but dominated the last 5 minutes driving by Pierce at least twice to score and win the game. He's an allstar for sure.
Celtics got a whopping 5 baskets from their bench. As the commentators said - the swagger has gone.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Disgusting to blow a late 14 pt lead mid way into the 4th. What else is there to say?

Where is 'this is a house of pain' attitude???

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Was a 23-4 run to finish the game and KG's 4 came from a putback and 2 ft's. Other than that it was 23-0!!!!

Listening, I was a little pissed - there never seemed to be a time out to halt the run. Eddie Jordan called a TO every time the Celtics looked like pulling away.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Booster ahead with Philly at home and then A TOUGH one it seems????????

New York in NY!

All of a sudden that game is a danger game is it not LOL

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Interesting news on the Celtics is that Sam Cassell is looking to get out of the clipjoint. Him and KG are still tight as tight can be. I know he's 39 but would be a great guy to have come off the bench.
He torched the Suns for 30+ the other night. He'd be less injury prone with only bench minutes and would help Rondo with his jumper and when to take it. He's the master of the midrange jumper via the pick and roll. I think it'd be great to have him on board

Great to see Rayray have another excellent shooting night - 9-14 with 5 or so 3's against the 76ers.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Something will happen by the deadline. Ainge hasn't finished with this team just yet.

And the bench got the W yesterday with Doc finally using his head and coaching rather than spectating.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

I think Cassell coming off the bench would be awesome, another scorer - would let Pierce get some more rest - he often plays the first 15 mins of the game to keep the scoring going when KG and Allen rest at the end of the 1st/start of the 2nd. Then if he gets hot they can keep him in for 8-10 minutes even when KG and Allen come back.

House seemed to have a decent game at pg -15-4-4 yesterday.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

I'd rather Pruitt get court time for now though but Doc seems hell bent on running TA and House at PG instead even when Rondo was out.

And more all the time popping up.

I hope Powe isn't in part of the trade if a trade is worked out for Sam or even Damon. I hope his court time was earnt as it seemed and not shopping him out with minutes.

And Allen rarely rests thanks to Doc and if teams put on full court pressure we really suffer with the second unit. Tony Allen's decision making is just horrid at PG.

ESPN's Chris Sheridan is reporting that Damon Stoudamire is close to being bought out by the Griz and that the Celtics are a front runner to sign him.

Damon Stoudamire is close to reaching a buyout agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies that would allow the 34-year-old point guard to sign as a free agent with either the Boston Celtics or the Phoenix Suns, a source told ESPN.com on Saturday.

There remained a possibility, however, that the Grizzlies would decide against a buyout if one of several teams seeking Stoudamire upped its offer in trade talks.

Either way, a resolution was expected within the next several days.

The Celtics, Suns, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets have all discussed trade possibilities with the Grizzlies to acquire Stoudamire, the 1996 Rookie of the Year and a 12-year veteran. Stoudamire was the Grizzlies' starting point guard over the first two months of the season before rookie Mike Conley was promoted. Stoudamire has not played since Dec. 30.

A source with knowledge of the trade talks said the situation also was being impacted by the possibility of Sam Cassell being traded or bought out by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Great win by the Celtics today.Another clutch play by Ray Allen, absolutely got hammered while trying to drive for the layup but no-foul called.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

No KG? He said he wanted to play in today's game. I know he's registed as "abdominal strain", but it makes ya wonder how bad it hurts, I mean he's been out all week!

Must be bad.

Close win today, but they got there!

Looks like "Big Baby" is taking form of his name, he's been pretty shit lately. 7 minutes today.

Yet didnt he rack up a 20-10 type game with KG PLAYING???

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Powe has been taking his minutes....16-8 today on 8-10 shooting.....shame about KG not playing - all I can say is it must b hurting....

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

I just have to say - since this is my only joy of the season so far - that Boston should have lost twice to Minnesota if not for bad jump shooting and Minnesota not knowing how to win.

missed at least 15 3 pointers that game - most of them wide open - none more so than the final look of Jaric's...

But congrats to Boston for rolling on.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Another fine win today vs San Antonio - The Celtcs are playing great without KG. So much so that I think his MVP chances are being ruined!!! Great to see the bench step up - House with 10 pts while Pierce was on the bench. Davis with 9-8, Rondo 12 boards 11 assists. Great team effort!
And lastly awesome game by Pierce with 35. 16-0 v the west....

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Looks like Boston may be looking to add some players..

Celtics interested in Barry, Magloire, Murray and Cassell
Saturday, Feb 23, 2008

The Boston Celtics and several other teams are in the Brent Barry sweepstakes the Boston Globe reported.

The Sonics waived the 13-year veteran combo-guard Thursday after acquiring him the same day in a trade from the Spurs. The 6-foot-7-inch, 210-pounder will become an unrestricted free agent Saturday and is expected to get interest from Boston, San Antonio, Phoenix, Denver, Houston, Golden State, and the Lakers.

The Spurs, however, would have to wait 30 days before they are eligible re-sign Barry. Boston is expected to inquire about Barry. A calf injury, however, is expected to keep Brent Barry sidelined for about another 10 days.

The Boston Celtics are also expected to inquire about guard Flip Murray, waived by Detroit Friday, and center Jamaal Magloire, waived by New Jersey. Both will be free agents Sunday if they clear waivers the Boston Globe reported.

"We'll just evaluate who comes off waivers and see where they fit in with us," Ainge said. "But I don't feel we have to do anything. I like our team. At the same time, we've saved two roster spots for players that could help us this time of the year. We'll continue to evaluate those players."

The Celtics have also been rumored to have interest in veteran Clippers guard Sam Cassell. The 38-year-old has said his agent, David Falk, has contacted the Clippers about a potential buyout and that he would be interested in the Celtics. Cassell must be waived by March 1 to be eligible to play in the postseason for another team.

mmmmmmmmmm
Celtics Sign P.J. Brown
BOSTON - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed center-forward P.J. Brown. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brown, a 6'11", 239 pound forward, will be entering his 15th year in the NBA. Brown played for the Chicago Bulls during the 2006-07 season and averaged 6.1 points to go along with 4.8 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game. The Louisiana Tech product has career averages of 9.2 points, 7.8 rebounds in 31.4 minutes per game. Brown has appeared in 81 career playoff games and has posted an average of 8.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in over 2,500 career postseason minutes played.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Was waiting for someone to snatch up Brown. He should provide some help on the boards.

I read that there's a few teams interested in Barry (including San Antonio - but he'll have to wait a month to go back to Spurs), one team is the Mavs. Not sure how he'll fit in with their roster, perhaps it'll mean less time for Jones?

Depending what they're willing to pay him too, as it's reported the Mavs have the most $ out of the teams he's looking at, but not sure who's doing the maths on that one lol.

Since when have the Mavs got money to spend???

doubt he'd go anywhere but back to the spurs plus he's still injured for another week or 2.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

No Ray and still a W on the road against the Spurs. Now to break the Rockets streak and maybe win some more respect off fans that seem reluctant to give it to the Celtics.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

What negative spin do people use now?

Peaking too early? The return of Ray Allen will hurt us? Sure they beat the best teams but they are trying too hard. They lack depth despite the play of Powe, Cassell, Posey, House and Allen. The Eastern conf sucks regardless.

Well...............
