YUP thats right, thats what you get when you are a class player and want to end your career at the team you are on and don't jump ship at the next best offer like 97% of players would.

I present.........Ray Allen...:worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy:

Sure Ray isn't going to command near max money this time around for his contract but you only have to look at someone like AI to get a feel at how a star player and his minutes also effect teams. Ray as long as he has the legs can fill the role he does for a few years yet just like Miller did but better. His work ethic is beyond approach and a great locker room guy.

Is he a dying breed in this league?

This year we will get a better idea of where other stars sit as they too face the end of their contracts and see where they go. Will some leave for money but step down the ladder playing for a worse team....sure.... But Ray wont if he has the chance :v:

Allen should be a simple re-signing for the Celtics. He wants to return, will play for a contract worth far less than the one he has now, and will embrace a reduced role if asked.

"Have you ever known me to worry about being in the game or playing less minutes?" he said. "I've always said I would love to see Tony Allen play more. I would love to see Marquis (Daniels) in there playing more minutes. It means a great deal to this team.

"At this point, what I'm making now, I made a great living throughout my career," he said. "I know going into next year I won't make the money I'm making now. I know that.

"I'm ready to be here. I'd love to retire with this organization. That's up to the team, but I want to be here. This team has proven over decades to be a winner in sports. I'm committed to it, and that's what I would like to do."

That is what should happen more. Lots of guys are just in it for $ now. Yes they only have a limited playing career, but they make obscene amounts of money that they should know where they are at at that point in their career and what else may be important for their teams and themselves (maybe even getting a ring as a lesser role in a team).

Ersk

Sure he's class but I wish he was playing better. recent Allen/Monta Ellis rumours were unlikely but intriguing....talented headcase for aging class veteran....

With this free agent stuff and wanting to stay in Boston coming up, as well as Ray Ray's dissing of the All-Star voting selection I'd have to say YES he is part of a dying breed Chad.

Actually we are discussing the issue about free agency and what players do. I didn't want to clog up an thread that is already in 1000's of posts being the biggest team thread on the site :-D

I don't think holding onto Ray is in our best interests also player wise but with Perk looking for a payday, Pierce's contract up soon, Rondo's payday and also BBD taking on another player in a trade equal to Ray would cripple us more salary wise than waiting a year and Ray on lots less.

There will be some big money on offer from although what are big markets, hardly tittle contending teams and it will be most interesting to see who does what.

man ray's a good player thats for sure. i remember it used to be STAR PLAYERS ONLY PLAYED FOR 1 CLUB their whole career (or thereabouts). when Shaq got TRADED to LA, after that every tom dick and harry got traded here there and everywhere. its not like it used to be anymore, players are just chasing the higher dollar nowdays (or most of them atleast).

y would he move? Like u said he would get a little more money but not much and i really dont see his minutes inproving anywhere else. I think its great what hes doing but honestly for only a little more coin and 5 more minutes but walk away from a ring contender????

HE'S DOING A JASON AKERMANIS (well...sought of)

saw a story on realNBA about him and how he's son was diagnosed with diabetes during the playoffs when they won it. after that program i thought gee hes a really great guy off the court, and now this proves he is a great guy on the court. definately someone to look up to i think.
