O.K guy's and girls I joined weightwatchers last week as my weight has just been going up and up over the last few years. The last year has been pritty hard as I have been suffering from depression and have put on 12kgs. My wife joined weightwatchers last week and asked if I wanted to go with her so I joined as well. I weighed in tonight for the first time and lost 3kg in my first week so I thought that I would make a thread about my weight lose challenge and post my weight each week and a picture of what I look like each month.
Mate I was in a similar situation to you a few years ago......I was around the same weight as you and coming off a broken foot which made exercise painful.
I started going to the gym (3 times a week) and gave up junk food and to this day I weigh roughly 25 kilos less than i used to. Ive been that way for the last 3 years and have never felt better!
Good luck with your challenge, eat well and excercise regularily.....do that and the weight will drop off!
Good luck to you! You have more will power than me. I'm fat, lazy, and un-motivated. That's my excuse and it seems to work for me.
But on a side note, I have only put on 4kgs since we left home! With all the junk food we've eaten the last 2 years I'd have expected to weigh a crap load more.
I'm glad you joined that group though. I'm actually a fan of how they go about it and how they give total advice that you can use in day to day life.
I'm not a fan of their supermarket over priced snack foods etc but on the whole WW's are a good start. Don't want to plug them too much or I'd shoot myself in the foot LOL
Good luck bud and yeah I'm happy to help out should you need any. Its always better to do it now than leave it to later, where it only gets harder on both you and your body should you try to lose weight then also.
If you fancy a trip into the inner city I'll put you through your paces for ya LOL
The first step is always getting professional advice.
whatever way you do it, be it WW, personal trainer or whatever...at least your actually doing it and making the effort. great stuff mate, im working towards the 100kg mark myself, best of luck!
Could be a great idea for the forum ... the ozcards weight loss challenge! Before/after weights and photos are posted ... everyone throws in a donated card or two. Greatest % weight loss by say March 09 is the winner.
Anyways; even if everyone thinks I'm stark raving mad for suggesting it ...
Best of luck! Know a little thing or two about depression and weight gain myself ... certainly tough, but certainly beatable.
Hey mate that sounds fantastic. I know how you feel, i have piled on 20+ kg's since leaving my old work to now just sitting behind a desk for the last 20 months. Now any excuse to walk im doing it and cutting out the soft drink etc.
I know what you must be going through and wish the best of luck with everything mate,
Good luck mate, keep the motivation up.
Weight loss is like sports training, or any type of physical challenge, theres no shortcut, to win the championship you gotta put in the hard yards!
Stay focused on the prize mate, good on ya
i was in a similar situation. I battled depression for about 8 years, tried every sort of med under the sun, and they all stimulated my hunger and made me stack on weight. over the time i gained 28kg and didnt even notice !
the turning point for me was seperating from my partner (unrelated to health, since back together) and i did what most guys do in those circumstances, hit the gym. i dropped 20kg in the first 3 months.
my tips:
- read mens health mag, i find it gives good tips and is quite motivating to read the articles.
- try and eat regularly. i now eat 6 meals a day and i find i hve so much more energy and my calorie intake is less.
- i am sure WW wouldnt do this, but stay clear of the fads, like cutting carbs out etc. you need a balanced diet.
- i would attribute my single biggest influence on losing weight to cutting softdrink. we used to always have coke in the fridge. now i drink water, if i go out its diet coke. i reckon i lost half the weight from that, as coke is chock full of sugar.
- dont weigh yourself to regularly. i find the body weight fluctuates, and if you have been lifting weights you could temporarily put weight on.
finally, when doing regular exercise, if it gets boring change it up. exercise doesnt have to be boring monotonous running on a treadmill. do something else and it stimulates you
Good luck with the program, someone had mentioned Diet Coke please stay away from Diet Coke you just need to do some research on the sweetener 950 & 951 aka "Asapartame" which can be found in Diet Coke. I'm not going to harp on in detail but I recommend everyone looks this up.
