I'm putting together a list of 'cult' players from the 1980's and 1990's.

The sort of player like a George Rose - maybe isn't the best, the fittest, the classiest player, but geez he gives it his all and makes football fans cheer him on no matter what team he plays for.

The sort of player a club needs, who does the little things, plays week in & week out and probably isn't on big money, gets to do all the interviews, unless he's been noted as a 'club cult hero / stalwart'. Probably looked unfashionable, mangled his words and was rough around the edges, but with a heart of gold.

To get things started, I've come up with a list of a few players who might qualify. Please, add fuel to the discussion, add your favourite 'cult' player to the list and explain why they got so much support from club fans across the board.

In no particular order:
Trevor Cogger - Western Suburbs
Michael Bolt - Illawarra
Kerry Hemsley - Balmain
John Donnelly - Western Suburbs
Les Kiss - North Sydney
Rob Gibbs - Easts, Manly-Warringah, Gold Coast, Western Suburbs
Sam Backo - Canberra, Brisbane
Michael Speechley - Newtown, South Sydney, Cronulla-Sutherland, Parramatta
Graeme Bradley - Illawarra, Penrith, St George
Joe Thomas - South Sydney, Canterbury-Bankstown, Western Suburbs, Illawarra

It will be interesting to see who get put up.

Adam Ritson was all class for the Sharks. As rough as they come but he got badly injured then he had to retire way to soon.

Didn't realise that Michael Speechley was ever a cult type of player, how about Adrian Toole from the Bears, didn't the NSO fans go Tooooooole when he came on, and don't forget the Falcon!.

For the Knights in thinking Ash "the Flash" Gordon. John Schuster was a bit of a cult hero too - crowd used to yell "schu schu schu" every time he touched the ball.

Royce Simmons, Gavin Miller, Ricky Walford, Cement Gillespie are a few....and if you have room for a non player.... Laurie Nicholls! Legend!
