A few weeks on .. How's the new site going?

Hi all

It's been a few weeks since we switched over to the new forum software. It was a bit of a shock at first and a learning curve for all.

I've been busy tweaking and making small changes in the front and backend. Some style changes, adding small things back that we used previously.

Some of the biggest things I've done involve caching and using a better Content Delivery Network. Some of the changes I have made I think have made the site pretty fast (which I hope is noticeable). I have the old vb4 forum setup elsewhere in case I need data from it and visiting a page was extremely slow compared to this new software.

How do you find the new system now most of the bugs are gone and you've had a chance to get used to it? Anything I've missed? Anything youd like to see?

Mate I think the forum looks and feels great. There's only 1 thing I'm missing, I get email updates, that's how I keep up to date with threads I'm involved with, I used to be able to read the latest commen from my email, but now I actually have to click on to the site to see it. Not a huge biggie, just one of those little things I miss. Everything else has been fantastic.

That's by design as some people used to reply directly to that email instead of logging into the site to reply. Used to get 20 of those a day. Now I get none.

At my old age i was cursing you the first week....im a creature of habit and dont like change...lololo
Ive since moved on.....slowly picking it up and liking...faster for sure

Another thing I have noticed is since you made the supporter banner smaller, you can't tell whose online. There are no green dots or banners that say online.

The who's online indicator wasn't actually working correctly. It was showing people online when they weren't. As soon as its fixed I'll put it back.

Apart from that the site is preety cool. Personally I prefer the old site but i'll get used to this.

Good to see the OCT feedback showing again.

Two little things I am having troubles with:

I can't seem to edit some older posts (maybe a time frame thing?)
When I add a hyperlink I can't add text meaning the URL shows and not the descriptive text e.g. <a href="page1.html">Go To Page 1</a>

As said keep up the great work and good luck working through the remaining teething problems.

Thanks Graham....I knew I should have been able to do it......

With not being able to edit an old post......well lets just put that one down to user error

The PayPal trolls have been over the site and have limited my account due to the SuperCoach thread...........I opened the link they sent to me (2010 Supercoach) from my mail editor and as I wasn't logged on here I obviously coulkdn't edit to remove my PayPal account description.......

Just noticed something, I'd made a comment in the EPL thread in the soccer section about 4:30pm. About 6 hours later I posted another comment (no-one had posted in thread since my 4:30 comment) and it erased my older comment?

My only beef would be when viewing on my phone (through safari) it takes while to load 'fully', it loads the first 90% quick, but the last 10% takws a bit. No biggie in itself, but if I scroll down while it is still loading, it keeps flocking me back to the top. It did do this once or twice before the update, but now it does it every time and it does it about 5-6 time in 1 load.

Now I'm getting used to the new design I like it. I find it sometimes hangs when I try and quote someone or post.

The sig editor is also a bit glitchy but aside from that it looks great.

Ok that should have merged the posts not deleted the old one. That's the second report i've had of it doing this so i've disabled it for now.

Yep i've noticed that too. Bit annoying. I'll keep an eye on their site and see if anyone else has reported it.

What problems are you having with the sig editor ?

I found at certain times hitting the enter key would shift the cursor to the middle of that line of text, rather than create a new line and it would happen with multiple hit's of enter.

So I then couldn't enter anything after the 4th line of text. It also would appear as though the enter had worked, but then upon saving it actually hadn't and there were no spaces between lines.

It's a minor thing really. Was just slightly annoying at the time.

Yer, that happens to me on my iPod as well....
