2014/15 A-league cards?

Can confirm that SE Products definitely wont be producing an A-League series in 2014/2015

Lets hope not, ESP will only take it backwards.

If it's a new company I'm all for it!

Really? Why do you say that?

I really like some of the ESP product. I'm not really an NRL fan at all, but I've picked up a few 2014 Traders packets just because I like some of the designs.

I'm hoping whoever it is departs from the Select/SE Products format which has been the same over and over and over (Base/Socceroos/Playmakers-All Stars/Medal Cards/Autos). Other then the boring base set design, the thing I really didn't like about the 2013/2014 release was that SE Products followed exactly the same formula as the past Select releases. I'd love something fresh if this new release actually does go ahead!

I have been familiar with ESP products (Memorabilia and trading cards) for over 10 years and to be frank their ideas and innovation seem to be lacking, especially when they first come on board. It doesn't seem to be them so lets not dwell on them.

You're definitely right we need new ideas, as that was on of the main reasons why the last set wasn't as successful.
There is a reason why the format has been the same as the person who funds the projects gets to have their say as to what is produced, regardless of the company.

I am worried that the new company may not have have signature cards which would be a shame. It all comes back to what their budget will be and how much access their license allows.

Surely some form of signature cards are a pre-requisite for any release these days?

I'd love to see some form of 'Rising Star', 'Young Guns' or 'Rookie' card (not that football really has an affinity with the term 'Rookie'.

Company is called Tap 'N' Play or (Tap and Play)

Will be released in a few weeks - and will include Aleague, Socceroos and Womens League.

Quote "Yes we have a new supplier in Tap N Play. They are producing player trading cards for the A-league, Socceroos and Westfield Matildas. They are due to hit the market in the coming weeks."

I am catching up with one of the people from Tap 'N' Play shortly......they don't have anything in the way of a website up yet but there will be a promo card on the front of one of the local soccer magazines (believe its a Cahill card) and they are releasing a set in mid October.

They only got the licence recently and they are very new to trading cards so I wouldn't expect anything in the way of Signatures this series (mainly a base set), but possibly autos next year.

Cant say much more but this wont be the only licence they have.........stay tuned.

Cheers
Matt

Thanks Matt - keep us posted if you hear anything else.

Looking forward to the release.

Let me explain something more....... the people behind it have a marketing company that specialises in interactive scanning solutions (Point of sale, scan to mobile etc) so you may see some cards that will feature some new technology. Who knows?

Interesting times ahead.

That doesn't fill me with much hope :|

But I'll just be happy to get more Sydney FC cards in my collection.

Interesting that they are getting into Trading Cards, don't really see a connection myself. Seems a bit odd.

But as James has said, at least there are going to be some more cards to fill our collections. Will withhold judgement until we see and hear more.

Hi Matt,
Do they have a newsstand distributor? I would be more.than happy to help out. I cant see how a collection will work without distribution in newsagencies and petrol and convenience stores.
Pop me.a message mate and ill chase them up
Cheers

I know JHL definitely isn't involved in this release, asked Steve the other day and he said he's heard nothing about it.

Last release of A-League cards didn't make it into newsagents, would be great to see it get a bit of wider distribution. I know I would buy a lot more of the product if it was more readily available. So easy to grab a pack or two at the servo or 7-11.

I can confirm that Gordon & Gotch (Magazine Distributors) will be the distributors so the cards will be widely available.

I am also meeting with a rep from the company later this week.

One thing to remember is that they have won the licence very recently and the first release has been done under very tough time constraints.

Cheers
Matt
