Official 2011 All-Star Weekend Thread *Spoilers*

LeBron was more BEHIND him, than in front..... he simply missed the block, nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry if your hate for Kobe blinds you... but isn't "missing the block" what gets you on a poster.... lol

Awesome all star game! Lebron should have won the mvp imo... I mean come on 2nd only to Michael Jordan to ever get a triple-double in a ASG! He was amazing in the 4th!! The whole game was amazing I was hoping for the East to snatch it up at the end.. Dunk comp wasn't that good again... Whats with all the props these days.. what happened to the old days where you stood in awe thinking that no one could ever top that dunk contest.. well to answer my own question the year 2000! Nobody has topped Carter since... Some of the props are bloody pathetic lol... Rookie game was good aswell and Pip should have won the Celebrity MVP.. absolute joke.. shouldn't let 12 year old girls vote lol!

did we watch the same comp? ?

Sorry if your love for Kobe blinds you....... but as I said b4 & as you can see from that "poster"; Lebron is behind Kobe & hence isn't being dunked on... so no, it ain't a poster per se.

No doubt Kobe deserved the MVP he was killing it (even if he did hog it a little). I agree that James was also MVP material, if the East had won no doubt he'd get the award.
Best AS game i've seen in a while i thought. Ray Rays running 3 pointer down the sideline to bring the game within 3 was sick

did you make a rule up where a Poster can only be made if a player is in front of the dunker? :D

did we watch the same comp? ?

just my opinion.. all i was saying is u cannot beat the old classic dunk comps. not this fancy crap of jumping over a car and ibakas teddy on the rim.. i was laughing about how ridiculous it was rather than watching in awe. the only good dunk was griffins first with the 360

how about howard a couple of years back? he used props, but his dunks were awesome...

I HATE the props. Like it takes away so much from the dunk, it's not funny. Stupid = Cupcake, teddy bear + annoying over acting kid, marching in with banners, jumping over the hood of a car (which isn't even taller than a ball rack FFS) etc etc. Somehow worked = Superman, Dee Brown's Reebok Pumps.

The dunk contest has to resort to all these dumb gimmicks to make it seem different (god that kid was annoying). We just need people to be creative and show us something new. Like Dwight's alley oop, tap the ball with the left hand off the glass, then dunk it with the right in the same motion. THAT was a sick dunk, if he added power to that, that would have been my all time fav dunk.

That cupcake one was awesome imo

If everyone just copied old dunks but just jumped 6 inches higher than the old days the comp would draw no one

Exactly, I said the players needed to be creative and show us something new not copy old dunks seen in the dunk contest before. We've seen the take off from the foul line ala Brent Barry, Dr J, Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, Serge Ibaka. Do something different never seen in the dunk contest. Do a 720, do an in between the legs switching hands TWICE, do an alley oop from the bleachers bounce off the floor then off the backboard for the tomahawk dunk, do a MJ remix with the fake with the left hand off two feet, then bring it back with the right but DUNK it, do a running front flip and get someone to toss an alley oop and dunk it, have an assistant do a toss from one end of the court off the backboard, bounce once off the floor on the opposite end and dunk it!

And what I call the "Deception": Line up 3 guards and get them to bend at the waist at the FOUL LINE. Make it seem like you're gonna dunk by jumping over them. Get a running start at the opposite end of the court, and leapfrog over them but at the last second, lay it up off the backboard! The 3 guards then take turns rebounding the ball in mid air and bouncing it off the backboard before landing and they return to crouch back at the dotted line after each rebound. Meanwhile you have run back to the 3point line and as the last guard tosses an alley oop off the board, you leapfrog over the 2 crouching guards for the emphatic slam and with your hands, you do the Vince Carter "It's Over" gesture. Tell me the crowd won't go nuts when they see that for the first (and last) time ever.

DeRozans 2nd was the pick for me. One handed catch and brought it around for the dunk, and he cought a ball from the side of the back board and dunked through his legs. Blake just caught the ball from the side of the backboard, the scores 44 and 49!! WHAT!!! DeRozan for me was the most exciting participant.

as far as pure dunking skill goes, DeRozans one handed swooping catch thingy was the best I reckon.

Blakes first dunk (the 360) was actually quite amazing, since when more players do a 360 they have already done a 1/4 rotation on the ground - his was weird. It was like he jumped up straight, and then after getting to the right height decided to start spinning. Monster dunk.

That teddy bear dunk was ridiculous.

Ibaka should have had a 50 no doubt for his free throw line dunk. That was THE best free throw line dunk I have ever seen. Dr J was just jealous that he couldnt do it from the same distance.

I think overall DeRozan did the best dunks.

Also, I HATE the fan voting crap. How pathetic. Whats the point of judges if the end result is basically already decided based on popularity? There was no way Blake wasnt going to win, but I dont think he deserved it honestly. A solid 2nd, yes but not a win.

it sounds like you have a very specific vision of what they should do.
are your suggestions for real? i cant tell? alot of those dunks just wouldnt be possible. the MJ switch circa LA would make a nice one tho.
your 'deception' wouldnt make me go nuts...well maybe with frustration. its just a gimmick. doesnt make the dunk any harder? or spectacular to see? an 'emphatic slam' dont save it. and finishing it off by copying the gesture of another dunker? thats worse that copying the dunk...great name tho. very apt.
lets not forget its just a muck-around for them. i doubt they put too much time into it...

Lol...was just horsing around with the suggestions. :D I'm sure all of them can be done, the 70 percent of the dunk is showmanship, 'deception' is an extension of the showmanship but without the freaking teddy bear props.

yeah, teddy bear was the equivalent to the cupcake dunk. I didnt like either of them - however, we are still talking about that cupcake, so it must have left some sort of impression.

Someone mentioned Dee Brown. Man that guy could dunk. The one where he pumped his Reeboks up was pure gold!

I tend to agree - I miss the old school dunks, but as many have said before, everything has been done, so they need to add something different otherwise the dunk contest will die. Dwight has been the most inventive in recent years. The sticker dunk (yes I know it was a gimmick, but it was more of a "look how high I can jump" statement than a prop), the tap off the glass to his other hand was awesome, the 12ft ring... classic stuff. I think the dunk contest died when Vince thrashed everyone in 2000. Since then everyone else realized no-one will ever be as good as Vince, so they need to step outside the box.

Had a mate record the all star game and just got back from watching it. A close finish is always good to see and am a big fan of the jerseys again.

Kobe started of really well. He was being fed the ball a bit but making great plays with it - then it just turned into a typical Kobe performance with only one thing in mind - himself. Does the guy know how to dish? And seriously, who crashes the offensive boards in an All Star game? Kobe had 10 offensive boards which he probably scored off over half. Rubbish points which padded his stats.

Lebron was definately the best on the night with the triple double. Took things easy in the first half then dominated and brought the East back to be competitive. Agree that the MVP should go to the winning team in which case KD was the man.

Ray Ray's three ball from the corner with the fade was clutch!!

Once again the D-League and Sprite Showdown guys killed the proper dunk comp. Less props and more skill involved and it was way more enjoyable imo
