Official new orleans hornets thread for 2010-2011

Yeah I agree with everything you said loafic. Im just looking forward to seeing Collison and Thornton running the team and hope they both remain un-injured. Sadly I think Thornton might be one of those injury prone players because of the way he goes to the rack! He isnt afraid of anyone, kinda like manu Ginobili

What i don't understand with NO is they have some bargaining chips in Peja, Posey and even Collison why would they not use them three to lure a star ?

I mean we have now filled the SG pos with Thornton which we have not had in a long time , Imagine we picked up Amare for those three or someone of that Ilk to fill the SF pos now that would give a lot more firepower as Posey And Peja are finished at best , i am sure a few teams would want those three or maybe a multiple team deal .
I would love to see the Hornets win their first Championship with Paul but in the same breath Cp3 can't waste his talent around scrubs he does need that one more piece in the puzzle i would of liked to see Boozer there or Amare or Even Bosh but they are all pipe dreams now.

On the other hand why would Paul not see potential in a team that just picked up 2 of the best rookies from last years draft and not want to hang around with them a bit longer and see what happens. Also David West had a pretty good 09-10 season so he is still in good form.
Perhaps now that his best friend Lebron has joined a super team he wants to follow suit?

major problem esko is that hornets have paid big $$$ to guys who dont warrant it or guys who are in the back end of their careers, theres not just 1 but 4 or 5... they can only lure a free agent to new orleans if they believe they can win a championship there... it is a small market and history shows not many marquee players come there as free agents - its a tough sell. Boozer, Bosh and Amare knew this and thats why new orleans was never even discussed... aaron gray's resigning has been the hornets only offseason move, so thats really disappointing

here is the hornets roster and their salaries over the next 5 years:
HoopsHype - NBA Salaries - New Orleans Hornets

peja only becomes a bargaining chip around the trade deadline halfway through this season, as his skills have eroded too much to be warranting $15M a season (lets not forget he was 3rd or 4th in MVP voting one season for sacramento) - however, imagine him on a championship contender just sitting on the three point arc bombing from downtown! he is still one of the deadliest shooters in the game, he just doesnt do it as regularly... at $15M he is not a valuable player, but at $4-$6M he definitely is...

problem with posey is that the hornets gave him too much money a few season ago considering his age, so now they are paying for an ageing player whos best is behind him... like peja, in the right situation posey can very valuable as he has proven in boston and miami where he won it all, but at $6-7M? no thanks.

okafor for $11-14M over the next 4 years? bad move... he does have impact no doubt, but he isnt worth that money... good on his agent for being able to get him that much but expectations follow once your paycheck gets to a certain level... he just isnt a $14M guy... excellent defender, rebounder and shot blocker but very basic offensively

darius songalia for nearly $5M? he doesnt do much else but provide us with an additional big body... money not well spent, there are cheaper guys out there who can do exactly the same thing

david west however is an absolute bargain @ $8.2M but he also has a player option for the following year, so there isnt a guarantee he'll stick around either if he doesnt like what he sees in terms of the teams vision... hes a hard working no-nonsense type guy who gets it done night in night out. excellent player and great value

Another interesting factor to add to the CP3 saga is the Western Conference star point guards V Eastern Conference star point guards.
At the moment CP3 has to deal with Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Deron Williams, Chauncy Billups, and Jason Kidd on a regular basis than if he was in the Eastern Conference he would only have to deal with Rajon Rondo & Derrick Rose.

well, the smart move for him would be new york

I try not to be a homer in all this talk of CP3 and his potential move to join my team in Central Florida, but I actually think the smartest move for HIM would be the Magic. I think the main reason he wants to be in New York is the potential joining of him, Amare and then Carmelo next offseason, with the main desire to be to go up against Miami. But the Knicks still wouldn't be as good as them, mostly because they wouldn't have a hope of defending them. Plus D'Antoni, as much he would be able to do with that team offensively, wouldn't help that. But if Paul comes down to Orlando he joins one of the best defensive teams in the league, and the player he's maybe best sutied to play with: Dwight. Imagine the effectiveness of the pick and roll with those two, and the kinds of amazing alley-oops he could get off with Dwight's insane vertical leap.

Plus, I think New Orleans will want more for their franchise player than just the cap relief of Eddy Curry's expiring contract. They'll need someone who will be able to at least keep the team at around the same level. So I think the best deal that the Hornets will get is also from us, something along the lines of Jameer Nelson, Vince Carter and Marcin Gortat for Paul and Emeka Okafor's horrible contract.

the curry cap relief would be just one component of any potential trade but it would give the ability to clean the books for the following seasons and have the ability to pay a max type contract to someone of their choosing... replacing a player the calibre of cp3 is downright difficult, particularly a pg

the cp3/dwight combo would be a devastating one i agree, very exciting to watch / similar to nash and samare was... they would just have to add some budget depth at centre and on the wing if they were to lose vince and gortat... theyre a good defensive team now but wow imagine how good they would be defensively with a line up of dwight & emeka rebounding/swatting away shots with paul picking pockets of opposition guards... maybe orlando isnt a bad option afterall

Yeah, I heard Walsh say that a lot of his movement with trades and such lately is so that he has some pieces to get another guy to match with Amare, but I still don't think anything they have quite matches up to what we can offer. Plus, if the ultimate goal of everything is to make a big run at Carmelo next summer, do they really want to load themselves up with any of New Orleans' bad contracts? I'm sure any Paul deal will be heavily focused on them offloading guys like Posey, Okafor and Peja for some expirings in return, and I'm not really sure on the Knicks numbers so I don't know how well they would be able to weather those.

I don't think the Knicks is a good option at all , who is there Amare and who else same crap as what he is with at NO ?? I hope he doesn't go that road if he does get traded i hope for Magic or Portland for his best chance at a ring.

Maybe he should stay in NO and Peja's contract is up next year with a few smart moves they can land Melo , maybe getting rid of Peja,Songalia ,Posey and maybe Collison for Melo and a nice contract might lure him there can only hope .

That would be a strong team

Okafor
West
Melo
Thornton
Paul

He should go to the Heat... ;)

 Yeah emagine ;)

Lebron tweeted his good mate CP3 this message RE: his potential trade meeting for monday.

'Best of luck to my brother @oneandonlycp3. Do what's best for You and your family'.

Looks like CP3 will stay

NEW ORLEANS — Chris Paul jumped at the chance to express his love for New Orleans during his annual youth basketball camp on Tuesday.

Only the subject of his future with the Hornets gave him pause.

Paul said his meeting with Hornets general manager Dell Demps, head coach Monty Williams and team president Hugh Weber on Monday "went really well." He added that he was "excited" by Williams' approach to coaching.

Paul even went so far as to say he's "never been able to envision" continuing his NBA career anywhere but New Orleans, the city where he became an NBA all-star, the face of his franchise and one of the most popular figures in the community.

And yet, when given the chance to say without reservation that he did not want to be traded, Paul said now was not the time.

thx for the sneek peek esko...

brackins looks like he'll be a player - he's an underside inside presence, reminds me of carl landry just with better post moves
pondexter seems like an athlete but we already have a guy like julian wright who is athletic but isnt overly proficient in any particular area of the game

looks like julian wright has been traded for marco belinelli of the raptors...

Twitter / Marc Stein: ESPN.com sources: Hornets ...

- wright has been a major disappointment since being drafted - very athletic but isnt proficient in any particular area of the game
- dont know much about belinelli but shooters always come in handy and he wouldnt have ever played with a pg as good as cp3
