Advice on NBA Packs and Boxes: Ask your questions here!

Hi I am kind of new to basketball I have busted a mini box of select and box of 11 12 past and present
I was wondering what are my chances of getting my money back in 2012 -2013 panini preferrerd
hey mate you never get ur money back on busting boxes trust me. Only the lucky few do. Preferred are great boxes to bust with great cards though you have a better chance of getting sumthing nice in Prefferred than Past And Present & Select

Thanks bill

I'm late to the party on this post, but 95% of boxes I've busted I've not made any where near the price back on. There have been about 3 boxes which have paid for the case they came from that have helped the cause. Lightning in a bottle.

Hey guys what's a good box for around the $300 mark.

I want the cards to look prity but also a chance for a real good hit.

Is that to much to ask for haha

Okay got $700 to spend on boxes or a Case.. wanna do DACARDWORLD... Whats your suggestions??

11/12 Panini Limited would get you a case. I think it's great value.

Boxes: Intrigue looks ok, even with the parallels the Golds look nice and turn up often enough.

Prizm is sweet.

Depends if you want to collect a set or try for a big hit. Preferred would also be a good call.

Thanks man, il check Limited... umm im going for that big hit i rekon! and some sweet on cards to go with it.

hey guys, have been away from collecting for about 4 years, since just before Panini took over, so know nothing about their products.

Birthday coming up and couldnt think of anything i wanted so my mum is going to buy me a box

Whats a nice box, with nice looking cards thats fun to open for around the $150 mark??

Hey Mattyj,

The best product around that price-point is probably Panini Innovation. There are loads of Rookie low numbered variations and interesting (almost 90's) inspired designs. I can look after you wish a few hobby packs on top if you buy through the cherry collectables webiste.

The other product which isn't as 'exciting' design wise is Crusade. It has 'refractors' which you might recall from older Topps releases and its currently very much 'undervalued' in my opinion.

Check out the website and I'll send you a discount coupon incase you want to grab something.

Do you make money back on the car you drive, the shirt you wear, the holiday you take or even the investments you make... We do things, buy things and collect things because it makes us happy. If money is all anything is about we will never be happy.

Well if I could buy a car or tshirt that would hold it's value for half the price or less over one that is worth sweet FA after it's been worn or driven once I would... card companies are taking the absolute piss in my opinion... Too many releases... mass produced crap... redemption's... among other things... It's ok for NBA collectors as a lot of the vets drive the releases value wise (although after reading the thoughts of BBall collectors here and on blowout I'd say many share my sentiments) and but as an NFL collector it is largely dependent on the rookie class.... and this years is pure shit hobby wise and they still want $100 box approx (not shipped) for half decent releases... Sorry mate... nothing fun about that... I haven't busted in almost a year and my singles collection has exploded without wasting the $3k on boxes I did in 2012 (so I am well aware of the "fun" of busting) If it's still fun... great... bust away... The singles buyers need the wax busters and the card companies need them as well to keep mass producing their c rap so I get that, but when are collectors going to take a stand against all this? Panini and the rest freakin piss themselves laughing all the way to the bank when they release one of their 327 releases for the year and the sheep run out and buy it only to get a smaller return then they would on a pokie machine....

Thats what I'm saying Jonathon, you do what makes you happy 'buying singles', You aren't making anything back from them as you keeping them. So you are outlaying for an emotion, which you enjoy and thats awesome.

Investing in emotions is what life is about if you ask me. If you invest in cards for profit, whether it be singles or boxes, then you probably aren't making the most educated of investments regardless of format. But the joy of completing a collection, wow, I've always loved that!! :)

You know mate, I would love to go back to busting wax because I enjoy it and it is what got me back into the hobby but I am so freakin frustrated with the card companies that it makes me angry (especially on the NFL side of things).... You need the case hit or an auto of 2-3 players to break even on a box for the most part.... It's not only about the money mate, you are dead on about the investing in emotions (actually a great way to put it) Unfortunately for me the emotions in busting wax went from enjoyment to frustration when most of my "hits" were selling for $1-$5 on ebay.... Sorry mate, I know you're in the business of wax and I honestly don't mean to attack busting wax, but I am attacking the companies because I feel they are trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of collectors, as quickly as they can instead of trying to keep people in the hobby for the long run (I'm not talking about the collectors with piles of cash to burn because they could care less, Im talking about the collector/wax breaker on a budget)...

What am I trying to say??? dunno??? Maybe that I miss busting wax (and I do) but Pannini, Topps, etc make it impossible for me to justify it

Your are not alone in your thoughts and Panini are not without their faults, but I personally think the hobby is in great hands. Panini are improving, the number of releases will decrease next season I'm sure, remember their distributors and stores lost big time with no sales during lockout.

They pay the athletes and no one can argue they have a far more sustainable approach than Upper Deck had, which put the hobby in such a hole.

It's an expensive hobby yes, but it's not the only one and it's cheaper than an Ice habit ;) hopefully panini continue to improve, Topps gets it's act together and Oz Group Breaks brings value case breaks to a new level ;) #shamelessplug

Good debate Jonathon!
