Buddy Franklin to the Swans?

If they offload Mumford does this make Pyke their #1 ruckman?

Great endorsement for international cross code recruiting (outside of Gaelic players that is)

Sydneys salary cap needs serious looking into by the AFL. How do they get the most expensive player ever the year after they got Tippett at a massive premium. That is just so suss its not funny. If this is true Sydney can kiss their so called awesome culture goodbye, Tippett the back door payment specialist and now Buddy.

The figures of $1.4 million for 5 years are being reported. Really audacious move by the Swans, they were only 1 game away from the GF with a few players injured.

I wonder if this move is just as much about recruitment as it is about sticking it to GWS.

And tbf to Sydney's cap, its sounds like the loss of 5 players is needed to cover this deal.

3 retired players and 2 to possibly be traded frees up enough funds.

You would have the salaries of Mumford (via trade to Hawthorn), Jesse White (reported trade to the pies) and the retirements of Jude Bolton, Marty Matner and Mitch Morton to help fund this. They haven't signed anyone else as yet and have a lot of young players on the books.

Can see how they can do it.

I hope we do get Buddy just to hear Eddie McGuire cry about the cost of living bonus even more.

I totally agree with Eddie, the cost of living has no bearing what so ever on if a player goes to another state to play. Its just a joke really. And come on, i still dont think there would be enough room for Buddy in Sydneys cap. White and Morton would have been on very low wages i think. I was fine with Buddy leaving to go to GWS for the money, and im sure the Hawks offer would have been close to Sydneys so if this is true, not one Hawks fan will be wishing him well. For that money he could have stayed at the Hawks. Im glad he's going as that money is way too much, but not to Sydney as i dont think they should be able to afford him
The AFL need to investigate this!

good luck to him. I don't care that he's leaving. I hope we go after some good young players like longer and adams.

Morton and White would have been playing for peanuts this year, White was lucky not to have been delisted really. Bolton was on the veterans list, so pretty sure his salary isnt included. So all we're really talking about is Mattner and Mumford. How does one recent premiership team afford to bring the 2 of the biggest forwards (one demands the biggest pay in AFL histroy) in the competition into their side? Just not possible to do it fairly, something smells funny about this.

As a hawk supporter sad to see him go, but after his effort in this year's finals I can say confidently we can go all the way without him. The compensation player and draft pick wise will only make us better than now.All the kingscross night club owners are now rubbing their hands together.

what compensation will we get?

They say the players leaving will make room in the salary cap but as Daz said they wouldn't be on that much coin AND the Swans have to replace those players as well they can't just leave there list with 40 or 41 players. You need to have 44 players on your list.
So the cost of living allowance definitely needs to be looked at.

My understanding is he's a free agent, the best we will get is a crappy compensation pick, probably in the 30's somewhere.
He's a restricted free agent so I'd assume there'd be some compensation, chances are the hawks will end up with Mummy and a low pick. Can't remember Geelong getting much for Ablett. Hawks are better off without him, the team has a more balanced look, especially if they land Mummy and maybe Daisy.
