As some of you know I get off on cards that have a story rather than it came out of a $5 pack at any store.

I love oddball, regional issues of stuff that is hard to find and usually origingal in design as they don't follow a manufacturers style.

After I say all that one of my favs is a Tony's pizza Larry Bird card that was in Tony's Pizza boxes in Milwaukee in 1992 for a short while. The promo was so popular they ran out of them and started putting in real fleer ones. The only difference is the numbering on the back.

My best oddball would be my 1978 Bird Indiana state police issue. His FIRST card appearance.

Others I love are my Mikan 1952 wheeties, 1951 berk ross, Bird hopps prototype, celtics citgo posters, sears card, fournier estrallas, spanish stickers, european versions, 1978 sportscaster, canadian minis, little big leaguers, JMS board game, cellular ones, mattel intstant replay, icee bears, linetts, cranes/buckmans/caravel discs and of course the famed 1985 Jewel prism stickers.

I know some here are HUGE player collectors so there should be a fair amount of this oddball stuff here in OZ. We tend to pick it up more than the US collectors and over the years some will go up a fair bit in price if you buy wisely. Just look at the early Khans set etc for example.

So for me please show me some of yours. Each team/player/decade has different stuff so I'd love to see and hear about something I'd never seen before!

:D

I don't have any oddball cards that I know off, but I do have this stuff up from Upper Deck:
From memory this is the second stuff up from the same set I've seen.
It's half Kevin Gamble, half Shawn Bradley, yet it's printed with Ben Cartwright on the gold writing on the front. Card is from 1993/94 UD S.E.
Weird

Yeah its a miss cut card...Not really oddball etc but the right player can go for a lot to players collectors. I've seen stuff like that command quite a premium for Bird, Jordan etc.

hahaha love that half half card.

thats great i got a couple of cool spanish niques, i'll post em when i get home

I love the 92/93 Tony's Pizza / Fleer set. I bought some packs off US Ebay the other day and they were loaded with the rarer Slam Dunk Versions of the cards (inc Jordan and Shaq)....but I still haven't finished the set. I will start on the much tougher 91/92 set soon...(which I think is the set Chad is talking about??)
I also have the Australian Sprite/Fleer 96/97 40 card set which has a BV$60. Bought it on OZ ebay for $14.
Another good set is the 92/93 Upper Deck Allstar Weekend Box Set.
One set that I'm selling on Ebay at the moment is the 90/91 Hoops Collect-A-Books. It's an idea that never took off but they are still great to look at!!

Yeah Im talking about the 91 ones but have the Celts 92 ones too :D Your right the slam dunk ones are tougher to find and the Jordan is a coup! Well done matey :)

What about the 92 fleer drakes set too. Add the skybox Nestle to the sets too! It goes on and on. Oh and the spalding fleer as well!

Got a few, like Kellog's College Greats (which most of us have), 95/96 Panini Stickers box (plus a few others from other years), the 92/93 UD All-Star Dealers set (99c from US ebay) and a few assorted Upper Deck foreign issues.

ive got all sorts of weird and wonderful robinsons, when ive got time I'll put them up!

Great Topic Chad
Finding Oddball cards for my Tim Hardaway Collection is one of my favourite pasttimes.
Some of my favourite cards in my collection are from Oddball sets, like:
Sports Illustrated for Kids
Hoops Team Night Sheets
Fleer Drakes
Fleer Tony's Pizza
Tuff Stuff Jnr, Allan Kaye's Sports Cards, Investor's Journal
French Majeur 5
These sort of cards don't come up very much, and when they do they are not that expensive, but they are an integral part of my collection!

I remember when I was about 10 or so my mum bought me a box of the 89-90 or 90-91 Hoops boxes. The set was only about 90 cards though, and basically all the superstars. The back was yellow too from memory. One day when I go back to Adelaide I'll have to have a look in some of my folders lol.

Yup hoops superstars sold exclusively thru Sears department store. Right on the mark Trey!

Good to see a good collection of oddball here but with all the dedicated player collectors I assumed there would be :D
