What if Lebron leaves the Cavs in 2010?

This is a big what if

i was just talking with a mate and were discussing the Nets trade with Jefferson and how it frees up cap room for the Nets when Lebron is a free agent.

Now if the Cavs had a feeling that Lebron was gonna leave and go to the Nets when they move to Brooklyn, would you trade him to make sure that u got something in return instead of being left with nothing like the Magic when Shaq left?

i said to my mate that they could trade him to a team thats around the 6th to 8th playoff spot and he could help them in the playoffs and in return get a few players that will help the team for the next season or so.


what do u guys think?

My thoughts are that the Cavs will never let Bron walk for nothing, they'd trade and get something decent in return at least.

I reckon he should just be traded.There's not much aim in building a team around him anymore since he already stated he want's to move to another team.

Ferry can get something good in return since New York has a string of nice and upcoming players.

I'll be honest and say it's the first I've heard of the Nets moving, but I havent been a Nets fan for long.

If Bron is planning on moving, then the Cavs should look to trade him, so they can get something back.

If he's "unsure" and walks out in the end they're gonna be left with nothing (see Nash leaving the Mavs)....

look at kobe wanting to move but with gasol in and reaching the finals, it's stupid of him to think of moving again.

trade everyone in the cavs line-up for 1-2 all stars... lebron + 2 backup all stars + D-league players is enough to reach the finals.

I would trade for sure. There is no doubt he has every intention of jumping ship, so I would want to get as much value as possible out of a trade. That would be first round draft picks as well as some key young guns in exchange.

Lets face it, without LeBron they don't have much of a team, so you would start the rebuild pretty much now I think. (except Daniel Gibson - I still reckon he can play!).

Has Bron stated he wants out? Ouch for Cleveland...trade him for all you can get. The trade would likely look like Garnett's to Boston, 7 for 1, but they'd surely have to get something goo in there

It was clear from the beginning he didn't want to play for a small market team.Bron should move to a contender tho, not a fresh nucleus of young talent to work his hand on.

Under Ferry's management the Cav's have gone no-where. Getting damaged goods eg.Hughes and now a declining Wallace. What exactly has he done cept for keep big z in that lineup.

the kobe situation was completely different. kobe wanted a trade, he wasnt a free agent.

i wasnt talking bout how to fix cleveland, thats a different thing all together.

but remember wen shaq left Orlando in 96 as a free agent, the magic were left with a massive hole in the team which wasnt filled till Dwight came in.

and to some extent Cleveland have had this happen b4 with Boozer doing the bolt and leaving them with a weak front court.

id send Lebron packing b4 they end up with nothing again.

Well, Bron hasn't announced anything as he couldn't but he did hint the other day that NY was one of his top 5 cities and Cleveland wasn't even listed!!! So thats not a good sign......but

The only option the Cavs have is if they start to pick up another star, i.e Redd or Ben G/ Dang etc, cause the better the team is at the end of 09 and the closer he is to a title, the better chance they have from keeping him from running.

Well the nets will have the money (not quite as much as the Cavs but still a lot), and the location (Brooklyn, is apparently is LBJ's favorite part of his favorite city) and of course JayZ. I think the only way the cavs keep him is if Ferry can build a better team around him and they make it to the finals and don't win in 2009. The team has to be almost good enough to win it all, good enough that the thought of going the NY and having a far inferior team is enough to make LJ thick long and hard. If they win it all, he goes. If they go out in the second round, he goes.
