Pretty good list i thought..except for a few things

*Ronny James Dio should NEVER be on ANY greatest list, end of story
*Skid Row's slave to the grind is too high, good song but too high..but Sebastian Bach was hosting so i guess they felt sorry for him..
*few notable songs that werent there...WHite ZOmbie's More Human Than Human, Slipknots People=Shit, Black Sabbath's War Pigs (classic!), Motorheads Born To Raise Hell (my all time fav!)

What do u guys think????

Oh and another couple that missed that i thought maybe could have made it...Sepultura's Arise, Rob Zombie's Dragula, Mudvayne's Dig

man if people can call:
faith no more - epic
acdc, dio, the anthrax cover and some of that other stuff metal than their is something wrong.
I love the 80s, Scorpions, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Gunners, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper but i would call most of the bands i named hard rock.
Cowboys from hell should be higher,
Where is more metallica: One, For whom the bell tolls, Battery and so on and so on.
Two great Pantera tracks their thats a plus but should be listed higher.
This countdown to me sounds more hard rock and they are missing alot of pearlers.
music has changed since the 80s and heavy metal is 10 times heavier these days in most cases.
not a bad list, but no great
i could give you a better metal 40 including the new era

40. "Breaking the Law" - Judas Priest (Havent Heard)
39. "I'm Eighteen" - Alice Cooper (Better Copper songs Bed of Nails, House of Fire, Poison)
38. "Balls to the Wall" - Accept (Havent Heard)
37. "Smoke on the Water" - Deep Purple (great riff maybe metal maybe hard rock)
36. "Wait and Bleed" - Slipknot (not a bad track at all but slipknot have better songs)
35. "Metal Health" - Quiet Riot (Havent Heard)
34. "Paranoid" - Black Sabbath (classic, 100% agree OZZY!)
33. "High 'n' Dry" - Def Leppard (not a bad track but i dont think def leppard are top 40 material)
32. "Thunder Kiss '65" - White Zombie (Havent Heard)
31. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" - Scorpions (great track, i love the Scorpions good metal/hard rock group that can play and sing)
30. "Epic" - Faith No More (good song but not metal)
29. "Caught in a Mosh" - Anthrax (classic balls out thrash song)
28. "The Beautiful People" - Marilyn Manson (nup)
27. "Run to the Hills" - Iron Maiden (better maiden songs and even than i would only have number of the beast in top 40)

25. "Cowboys from Hell" - Pantera (One of the best metal songs their is, coolest solo at the end RIP Dime)
24. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" - AC/DC (cmon, METAL and + that is one od aca daca's bader songs)

8. "Raining Blood" - Slayer (one of the best thrash songs their is)

5. "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" - Judas Priest (havent Heard)
4. "Back in Black" - AC/DC (AC DC's best track imo)
3. "Master of Puppets" - Metallica (Legendary, insult that the top 2 songs are higher)

not a great list 4 me but thats just because i would of preferred other songs well some of them anyway by the bands , to each their own

pantera with out a doubt no.1 mouth of war and heresy
whould of like some mudvayne songs like not falling and maybe some old skool dry kill logic...

DKL narrowly missed my list, id probably call them hard rock though, but ive never rated mudvayne much.

what no system, linkin, disturbed, or bizkit- this sucks! i think undead and young by hollywood undead are both ten times more kickass than all the other songs on this list! so screw you!

vh1 are losers. who voted this one.
holy wars and hangar 18 should be there. reason being those two songs were so technically challenging and quick for the time.

haha that list is shizer house..

seriously... cant believe you guys are missing pantera - cemetary gates... dimebag does some rediculas things with his axe in that song.

i would prolly have paranoid on top and agree that half the bands are rock rather then metal.

I would have a top10 looking something like this

1. Paranoid
2. Cemetary Gates
3. Hallowed be thy name
4. To live is to die
5. Fade to black
6. Reigning Blood
7. Cowboys from Hell
8. Angel's Don't Kill
9. Arise
10. Seasons in the abyss

it is a very bias list, however these aren't my favourite bands, just the songs i consider the best of my era of metal. Its soo hard for me to leave out favourite bands like nevermore, behemoth and co. but for the sake of me atleast attempting to make an objective top10 i had to leave them off

LOL @ kse in any top list

ths is just a popularity list. for instance, enter sandman is garbage compared to a lot of their stuff. and where is fear factory twats?
