West leaves with fractured wrist

CHICAGO -- Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West left Thursday's game against the Bulls with a fractured right wrist after a nasty collision with Chicago's Derrick Rose.

West was off to a blazing start, with 11 points, when he tried to block Rose's layup with 1:36 left in the first quarter. Both players crashed to the court, but while Rose quickly popped up, West stayed down clutching his wrist with a non-displaced fracture. He also had a cut above his left eye that required two stitches.

The Cavaliers began the night with the league's best record. Now, they'll have to make do without a key piece in West, who was fourth on the team at 12.3 points per game.

I dont know how we gonna defend against the Hornets tomorrow with BigBen still questionable. And the game in LA (Lakers) is coming up in 4 days...

But I still have to believe that we will win those games mentioned!

noooooooo!

not only one of my fave players, he's also in my fantasy team.

yeah 12.3 ppg, and nearly 3.5 boards and assists bothh..

coming into this game he also leads the team in 3 pointers made and was second in steals.

top backcourt defender they have, it's gonna be a tough loss!

let's hope boobie can do some good :)

20-0 at HOME!!! New Orleans Hornets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers - Recap - January 16, 2009 - ESPN

Pavlovich started in place of Delonte West (out for 6 weeks). Sasha scored 19 points (4-4 3pts, 6 rbds & no TO in 43 minutes) which reminded me of the Pavlovich of 2006. Szczerbiak also played well with 14 pts (4-5 3pts). Ben Wallace (8rbds) played 16 but still look sluggish after sitting out a couple of games! Z could be out for 2-3 more weeks...

Lebron played back to back games with the flu but tonite is the better night, 29 pts (12-24), 14 Rbds, 7 assts, 3stls and 1 blk!

Nice to have this win and have a break for 3 days before we head out west. Next 4 games are against the lakers on Tuesday (syd), Portland, GSW then Utah.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

While I want Delonte back soon, Pavlovic did an admirable and great job today.

Give credit where credit is due. Hope he can keep it up!

With West and Z is still out for our game [ame="http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/preview?gameId=290123009"]Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors - Preview - January 23, 2009 - ESPN[/ame] whom will welcome the return of Monta Ellis (a player I admire before lying to his team about his accident), Lebron will be playing his 3rd game with a bruised sore right arm. We need Pavlovic and Wally to step up again and hopefully we can keep up with the scoring attitude of the Warriors and at the same time keep them in check on defense all the time... Lets go small ball again!!! Go Cavs!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Well GS don't play any defense but you guys will have to cover the floor as they spread it well with their outside game. That suits you at the moment as even with the loss of West your frontcourt is more frail than your backcourt cover.

A slow it down shut down game should mean a win for you rather than run with this GS team that can heat it up. This is the sort of game we lost in our mini slump with the foot off the gas.

I forgot to mention in my last post, this is actually a trap game for us... If we dont focus on defense we can easily loose this game... Thanks for the heads up. Im pretty sure my coaching staff is well aware of this...

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

I can sense some problems for us early in this game. We are shooting the ball poorly, just 30% and Mo Will is having a bad shooting night. He's 0-7 at the moment...:(

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

i don't care how good the warriors run the ball, the cavs should be able to beat them even without Z and Delonte, let's go cavs.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Ohhh lucky bailout..

GS cause teams a lot of trouble regardless of their record. Having James gives you that card to play though in the dying seconds.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Phew!!!#-o Lebron barely beat the buzzer!!! Nice to have him on our team! LOL...

Zydrunas Ilgauskas trying to return Thursday against Orlando Magic

I hope he doesnt rush things but I want him back as soon as possible...
Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas admitted he was more than a little lonely while his teammates were on the West Coast last week. Trying to come back from his sprained left ankle in time for Thursday's game at Orlando against All-Star center Dwight Howard, the only guy he could work out against was Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry.

"Obviously, playing against Danny one-on-one is not the same as playing Dwight Howard," a laughing Ilgauskas said Monday after practice -- his first since aggravating the injury on Dec. 30 at Miami. "But he's dirty, so he made me work."

Asked who won, Ilgauskas laughed again and said: "We didn't keep score, but he fouled out. A lot."

Ilgauskas said he went through the entire practice Monday -- fast-break drills, a lot of shooting, two or three defensive drills, four-on-four transition drills and then extra shooting.

"It wasn't a really hard practice," he said, "but it was enough."

Ilgauskas got back on the court last Tuesday and increased his workload every day through Saturday. He said he was a little sore after Monday's workout and has to work on his timing and conditioning. It did not sound as if he'd be ready for tonight's game against Sacramento at The Q.

"It was just good to get some work in," he said. "This is the first time I shot since the Miami game, or even touched a basketball.

"I missed not playing. I missed the guys. I've been home all this time, so I missed the camaraderie. It has been frustrating.

"So more than anything, I'm happy to get a sweat in, starting playing and be around the guys. I missed it a lot."

Ilgauskas initially sprained the ankle defending a shot by former Cav Donyell Marshall at Philadelphia on Dec. 10. He tried to come back at Denver on Dec. 19, but the ankle really hurt the next day and wasn't getting better. Eventually, it was discovered he had chipped a bone, so the Cavs shut him down for almost four weeks.

The injury was a lot worse than we thought initially," Ilgauskas said. "These things linger. The tendon that I messed up just takes time to heal. It's different for every person and every player. So we took some time off to let it calm down, and the MRI showed the swelling went away. I might deal with some soreness or discomfort throughout the season just because of all the minutes. But I was assured eventually everything will go away and I'll be back to normal. Now it's just a matter of getting into basketball shape."

His coaches and teammates were thrilled to have him back.

"It's always good to get your guys back on the court," LeBron James said. "It's good for Z. I know he missed us and missed being out on the court. It was good having the big fella out there on the court today."

Added Mo Williams, "The quicker we can get him back into the rhythm of things and into game shape, the better."

Coach Mike Brown said there was no specific timetable for Ilgauskas' return.

"I don't know when he'll be back in the lineup yet," the coach said. "He had a nice practice. It was good to see him out there."
