The Official Cleveland Cavaliers Thread!

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Agreed.. I think he changed his pivot foot, but any way you want to look at it, there was definately not ONLY 2 steps in that play.

Yeah, I feel that when he stopped dribbling he's more than halfway to the first step and then he made 2 more after that. I think its a good call and Lebron just wouldnt admit... :D Sad to say but he's gonna learn things along the way and I know he's a capable individual and move on with it.

I feel that its just the Wiz getting into their nerves and nothing else... ;)

Well since he was so strongly against it being a violation theres no way he'll take his words back now.

Good for the "Cavs/Wiz" rivalry which really isn't very existent because the Cavs always win, ahaha but still.

Something I notice with him is that he takes his words back but he's doing quietly... What I mean is he'll avoid talking about it in the future. :D

Great display of domination by the guys today...
Charlotte Bobcats vs. Cleveland Cavaliers - Recap - January 07, 2009 - ESPN

We are off to the best start in Cavs history by winning our first 18 games at home... The streak will be tested Saturday (Syd) by the slumping Celtics who apparently and surprisingly trails us by half a game. I didnt think that we will have the conference lead before this meeting but I'll take it anytime...

We have to stay focus in this one and dont think for a second that because the Celtics are spirraling downward like they are means that its a given 19-0 at home.;)

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

The Cavs are the definition of a team.

Only ONE true superstar in Lebron James, but guys who can facilitate to him and play together as a unit in Mo Williams, Zyrundas Ilgauskas, Delonte West, Anderson Varejao, Boobie Gibson, Ben Wallace, JJ Hickson etc. Go Cavs!

We are clearing some room for hopefully another reliable Big Man! This injury to "Z" could need more than a month to heal. :(

CAVALIERS INSIDER
Cleveland Cavaliers' Jawad Williams released
Thursday, January 08, 2009
For the moment, Jawad Williams' hometown fairy tale is over.

The Cavaliers released the rookie forward Wednesday, but there's a chance it may not be permanent. The Cleveland native and former St. Edward star made the team after a good training-camp performance. This Friday, however, his contract would have become guaranteed for the rest of the reason and would have limited the Cavs' roster flexibility.

Before releasing Williams, the team had the maximum of 15 players on the roster. Now they will have a spot to use if they want to pick up another free agent or make an unbalanced trade, where they'd take back more players than they send out.

Later this month there is a good chance the NBA will approve guard Eric Snow's disability retirement and he'll be removed from the roster. In the meantime, the Cavs could sign Williams to a 10-day contract, which the team has hinted may be an option.

So Williams isn't closing the door.

"I can't be down about it, I'm going to be fine," Williams said. "I want to be here, if that doesn't work out. . . . I know I did everything I could do. We'll see what happens and we'll go from there."

Williams' role was primarily to be a practice player and work on a scout team. He was active for just seven games, playing in three of them and scoring one field goal in two attempts. He is well-liked by his teammates.

Waiver wire:

With the contract guarantee deadline this week, numerous players have been released across the NBA. With a roster spot to use, the Cavs may be looking at who becomes available. Earlier this week, the Milwaukee Bucks released veteran forward Austin Croshere, whom the Cavs were interested in during the preseason. However, it doesn't appear they will pursue him. Mostly, the Cavs would be in the market for a big man.

No exception for Snow:

When a team loses a player to injury for the season or he's forced to retire because of injury, it has the option of asking the league for what is called a disabled player exception, or DPE. This is a salary-cap exception that can be used to sign a player or trade for one. For example, the New York Knicks are attempting to get one for the recently retired Cuttino Mobley.

However, the Cavs are ineligible to apply for a DPE for Snow, even though they now have a roster spot because Snow's initial injury, a torn meniscus, occurred before last season. The Cavs do, however, have $5.1 million left from their midlevel exception they could use.

Cavaliers-Grizzlies Preview

As dominant as the Cleveland Cavaliers have been at home, they would like to show they can be just as dangerous on the road.

Looking to avoid a third straight loss away from home, the Cavaliers begin a road heavy stretch in their schedule when they meet the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Cleveland (29-6) has the best record in the Eastern Conference and now looks to become the NBA's fourth team to reach 30 wins, joining Boston, Orlando and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Cavaliers begin this stretch of six road games in their next seven contests after a 98-83 win over the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics on Friday, improving to 19-0 at home.

"Tonight I think we got better," said LeBron James, who scored 38 points. "We don't want to take a step back because we got a big picture and a big goal. You don't want to waste a game. We got really better tonight."

Cleveland, allowing a league-low 89.0 points per game, has held its last three opponents to an average of 81.3 points on 40.5 percent shooting. However, in four of their six road losses, the Cavaliers have given up more than 95 points.

They've lost at Miami and Washington in their last two road games, but have a chance to get off to a good start on this stretch with matchups against two teams with losing records -- Memphis and Chicago. After a home game against the New Orleans Hornets, the Cavs go back on the road to face the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland, Golden State and Utah, with the Warriors being the only team in that span with a record below .500.

Cleveland has won five straight over Memphis (11-26), which has lost three in a row and 11 of 13. The Grizzlies lost 103-82 to Toronto on Saturday -- the fifth time in six games they've been held below 90 points.

The Grizzlies hope to have leading scorer O.J. Mayo available after the rookie was forced to the bench in the loss after he was kneed in the left hip during the first quarter. He finished with 11 points in 33 minutes.

"It was pretty much nagging me throughout the game," said Mayo, who is averaging 19.7 points. "It probably would have been best to just sit out but I tried to fight through it. That side was pretty sore. You really don't know how much you need it until it happens to be injured. It kind of kept me back a little bit."

While their record has done little to draw much attention to the Grizzlies, they did make news over the weekend after signing Darius Miles to a 10-day contract. Miles had been waived by the Grizzlies last Wednesday. If he plays in two more games, Portland will have to pay the $18 million left on his contract, which had led the Trail Blazers to threaten legal action if teams signed the forward to hurt them financially.

The Grizzlies say that isn't the case.

"Our young team is short on front court players and could use a veteran with his attitude," general manager Chris Wallace said.

The Grizzlies' last win over the Cavs was a 113-106 home victory on Nov. 5, 2005.

Great to see OJ Mayo playing up against the likes of Lebron, should be an entertaining game but Cavs win easy.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

And once again the unspoken hero, Delonte West goes for 19 on 7/9 shooting including a perfect 3/3 from beyond the arc and 2/2 from the stripe.

If I'm not mistaken he also had 4 rebounds and 7 assists.

6 Rbds - 4 Assts  Where do you get your numbers... lol!

OT at Chicago!

Your boy fractured a wrist and could be out indefinitely... These injuries have now taken 3 of our straters and it shows in this game... Lebron is having a bad game but we still got 5 mins to win this one... :)

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

OT in the windy city, bron had the chance to win it, but missed after milking the clock. Missed his last 12 shots, looks off his game tonight.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Should have but looks like Lebron slacked right from the start. He had 3 TO early and he didnt shoot the ball so well. But I gotta give the Bulls credit as they fought hard to get the game to OT...

Did you see that block by Tyrus on Lebron??? Thats a great play by the young Ty!
