The Official BOSTON CELTICS thread

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

I call him worse.... LOL

Doc will cost us more games than our bench.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Is it any wonder Perkins averages more fouls on the road?

5 in 3 Q's already against the Raptors but at least Bosh has been held.

Celts up though still.......

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Gees lucky break in the end ey! I saw you up by 15 and Bosh held and thought 'In the bag'. Overtime? Gees!

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Apparently Doc River's father died, he had to leave Toronto early on Sunday, that's why Thibodeau was coaching.
Truly a magnificant game for so early in the year. There was a bit of a build up to it. Toronto looking to prove they are still number 1 in the Atlantic division after handing it to the Nets.
Boston wasn't brilliant in the first half, but were able to maintain a decent lead throughout. They did lose direction in later in the 3rd, where Toronto persisted and were winning on their 3 point shooting which got them back in the game and drew it up to go to OT. Pierce was off tonight, if he wasn't, we would have won in regulation, no doubt, but Ray Allen was firing which was a big help along with Posey and House doing wonders on the floor as Rondo, Perk and KG landed in foul trouble. They hit the crucial shots to keep the Celtics going.
KG dominated overtime and Ray Allen hit the winner for us, continuing his streak for the night.
In all, the offense lost direction in the 2nd half which didn't ultimately cost us, it was mainly poor shooting that got Toronto back in the game. So more improvement to come no doubt, but defense was better without doubt.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

I watched this game today (replay). Pierce looked at sea a bit to be honest. Rondo was very fast up and down the court but needs to improve immensely on some of the basics.

KG was fantastic for the whole game, the crucial point was him getting to 5 fouls and having to sit out, which really let the Raptors back into the game.

Ray Allen couldn't stop hitting big shots when they needed them either. A few times when he went a bit cold I felt he could have dished though.

The only bench player that really did anything of great use was Posey. Was cruicial with a few buckets, but also did a few things that the stats won't tell you anything about at all. House also contributed okay, but the C's are lacking a big man off the bench majorly.

Good win all the same though.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

great game, can't wait to watch it.....

if KG keeps playing this way, i am positive Boston has a strongest MVP candidate for 07-08 season... the great thing about big 3 is, if 2 players played well, they are pretty much sure for a win..

I have a feeling this year EAST is strongest in 21st century..

Winning shot captured;

This from Peter Stringer of the Celtics website:
With the win on Sunday, the Celtics improved to 2-0, marking the team's first 2-0 start since the 2003-04 season...Ray Allen scored his 17,000th career point during overtime, while Paul Pierce moved up to 6th place (15,416 points) on the Celtics' all-time scoring list. He passed Sam Jones (15,411).

Allen on the last play of the game: "That is exactly how we drew it up. A lot has been said about this team and what's going to happen at the end of games and who is going to take that shot. It is a joy to be out there offensively and for the coach to be able to draw up a play and there are three options, Paul (Pierce) he had a shot if he threw it in and stepped back in. He caught me wide open and KG (Kevin Garnett) set a great pick, but even if I wasn't open, KG was under the basket. It was a great play."

Also of note, courtesy of the Raptors PR department: with 20 points in the extra session, the Celtics scored the most points ever recorded against the Raptors in an overtime session.

And after two games, the Celtics rank as the best defensive team in the league, at least along the lines of opponents' field goal percentage. The C's held the Wizards and Raptors, two offensive powerhouses, to a combined .359 field goal percentage. The C's rank third in points allowed at 89.0 PPG.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Dominated the Nuggets today! Awesome listening to the coverage of the first 3 quarters on the radio cast. Everything was falling for the C's tonight, so great to see. The box scored was full, but their will be some issues to be sorted. Turnovers were a problem (even if that was the least of their worries). Imagine this team in the playoffs firing on all cylinders for an entire game? Assuming we get that far.

Can't wait to see a replay of this one, should be fun to watch!

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

I can handle this all season or as long as it lasts. For too long I've suffered.

Just goes to show how good a team can be when it doesn't have egos.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

You must be very happy with what's going on in Boston!

Im happy for them as well. They are for real and would not mind them showing some celtics games on foxtel.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Good luck with that. They set the schedule to early and although they will change some you wont see the benifits of this team till next year.

I can't wait to see this game as well. The Denver one was pure basketball viagra LOL

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Can you say "four and oh", how about "un-defeated" ;)

Another win for the C's. Kept the restraints on JJ and J-Smoove for this one. They're getting good at that.

Shooting is string again, 61% from the field and 60% from downtown, although turnovers continue to be too high for my liking. I'm sure they can work on tidying that up.

Good too see them growing and learning and still coming up with wins. Eddie House and James Posey so far this year have shown some of their best. I think Eddie House is an early 6th man of the year candidate if he keeps this up.

Ubuntu, looking strong!

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

The C's will win plenty of games providing their starters stay a) out of injury trouble and b) out of foul trouble. I watched the game against the Raptors a few nights back and boy did they nearly lose that game due to foul trouble.

I actually find it amazing that no one has signed Eddie House to longer than a one year deal since his initial team Miami. He has a terrific 3-point stroke. I feel Posey will be important for you guys as well.

Loving the big 3 KG, Ray Ray & Pierce! I reckon Perk is due for a massive game sometime soon, and once Rondo gets his shot selection right they should be massive.

They play New Jersey soon, (Who are a bit hot and cold at the moment). Should be an interesting game.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Poor shooting and poorly organised offence later in the game let the Celtics down against the Raps, it was the bad calls that got Toronto close again. I also feel the great crowd played a part for the Raps.

After the first, New Jersey lead by 1 after shooting 68%. Boston isn't shooting anywhere near as well but still easily hanging in the the game. Zero turnovers compared to New Jersey's 4 as well.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

And they came thru in the end. Allen had a fine game with 28-10-5, Pierce lit it up int he 3rd with 14 in the qtr and Baby Davis had a great game off the bench against a decent Nets team.

Looking good boys!!!

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Another win is right. You can tell this team has something going for them the way they handled that first half. The only reason New Jersey led early was because they shot lights out, but I knew they wouldn't keep that up for too long, which is when Boston worked away and took a 20 point lead. They really dropped off in the end, not sure why though. The Nets got crazy in the fourth and were making all the right plays but Boston held on to win by 11.
We'll see how the guys pull up from the back to back with a couple days break before another back to back again.
Allen and KG both backed up with big minutes, Sugar Ray playing the entire game.
We missed not having Posey and Scal to take a few minutes, but, Big Baby was able to contribute well. We need to see a rotation that gets all our bench on the floor when we secure a decent lead to see if we can sustain the lead at that particular time which will give our starters much needed rest time.
Free throw percentage and 3 point percentage were great again.

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Only unbeaten team! C's are looking great and could probably eclipse their 24 win mark of last season before the new year! They would have played 29 games by the end of the year...

Congrats C's!

Re: The Official BOSTON CELTICS Season Thread

Beating NJN and Raptors not only gave them big confidence but also push them to become one step closer to Atlantic Division title....

I only saw one celtics game so far, but they are very organized and collective.. And my biggest assumption about big 3, never thought Ray Allen would come out strong and finish strong. I was initially thinking, Pierce and Garnett combo would score alot... everyone is so unselfish and Eddie House is hitting big shots too.. so far, Pierce didn't have very good game yet.. so, once he's hot, this team is going to be unstoppable.

I think they really have a big shot at championship this year..

Can't wait to see how Boston play against Spurs, Mavs and Suns..
