Sam Amico is reporting:

“They have been working on a deal for the majority of the summer, and it appears the talk is heating up,” a high-ranking Eastern Conference official said. “There’s no doubt the Clippers have been dangling Maggette, and Boston seems pretty tempted.”

There are more details from multiple sources at the link above.

If memory serves me correctly, a Pierce for Maggette and Wilcox offer was turned down by the Celtics earlier in the summer. Turning it down was something I was in favor of because I didn’t feel like Wilcox made up for the gap between Pierce and Maggette. I believe the C’s asked for Livingston and reportedly were hung up on. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least bit if the sides were still talking and that Pierce and Maggette were the centerpieces.

What else would be exchanged is the big question. It would be hard to imagine the Celtics simply taking on more young/talented players to make the trade even since we already have an overstocked roster. Another trend we’ve heard with these rumors is that the C’s want to dump salary in order to make a deal happen. I can’t think of any team in the league less inclined to take on salary than the Clippers. Still, that is probably why this one took all summer to figure out.

If this rumor has any legs, then the ultimate deal will probably be a conviluted and complex one. Perhaps including draft picks, trade exceptions, and salary cap implications that might not bear out their full value for years to come.

This is also the second source in two days we’ve heard claim that “Doc Rivers ‘desperately wants Pierce out.’” (Consider that validation for Vescey) Except this source adds that Danny Ainge is at odds with Rivers over it. Doc and Danny do such a good job of presenting a unified front, that this could be the first matter that I’ve seen reported of a disagreement between them. Then again, based on what Gabe Kahn has told us in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised if they both wanted to trade Pierce but were just “at odds” over the timing and/or asking price.

Here is another quote from the article:

Both sources said they felt a trade between the teams was “probable” — although the Eastern Conference source said, “Don’t expect either team to admit it, and these things can indeed fall through. But they have been talking. Otherwise, it would mean a lot of people who I have never known to lie to me are suddenly lying.”

well well well, a bit better than the denver offer.
if we did this trade, we would have the youngest team in the NBA i think.
livingston will be a SUPERSTAR and always been a fan of maggette.
i dont mind either way.
