I just got a phone call from some one telling me I had to pay $340US for the release of my order into Australia. I order some Exquisite, some Black, and some ultimate and they said because it was over $1000 i had to pay an extra $340 Import duty. HOLY CRAP!!! Is that right?? Ive never had that before!?!?!?!!?!?!? Anyone please help???:blink:

afraid so!! your better off just making the value less then $1000 if at all possible.... I have noticed alot of ppl have had tp pay lately. I think there must be a hard crack down. If ya lucky your parcel will get through, but as of late none seem to be getting in without getting taxed. Brother had an order of $1004 last week, because it was 4 dollars over it cost him anther $280!!

Also are you sure its US dollars they are asking for?? Normally its customs on our side that ask for the cash, this also means the parcel is ready to be sent to you and is in aussie already... these guys sometimes take 2 weeks to send off!!

It's the Australian Customs office that does it!! I thought the amount would have been in Aussie $'s though!

I got around this last year by asking them to declare the value on the outside less then $100 but havethe original invoice in the parcel! They normaly do this but you do have to ask for it.

Sorry to hear man.

That is correct. It is Customs Duty on the Australian side. You get hit with this for any imports, but they waive this if it is a personal item that has a value less than AU$1000.

If it is more than $1000 and is for comercial purpose then they can still whack on the duty to you.

To avoid this, try to always put it as a gift with a value less than $1000, and also DO NOT put the original invoice in there. They can open up the package and if invoice different from inside to out, then they will charge you and look at items posted to you more closely.

Ersk

Arrgh bugger man, i coped this too when i ordered a couple of cases a while back.
Next time speak to Brian @ DAcard direct and he'll sort it out so it says the order is under $1000 and you wont get belted with the fee's.

i've also found with some of people that have done this is that even if they leave the original invoice out of the shipment, customs checkers have a pretty good idea if a shipment has been grossly undervalued by the sender's details (i.e. da's, orange county, etc). the customs guys have been told to look look out for shipments from these major dealers for avoidance of import taxes and duties.

You may also risk losing out on an insurance claim by getting the seller to understate the value of the package....should the package go missing.

Here is an email I got from customs regarding the importing of gear.

The shipping and insurance costs will have to be included in the total for the calculation of GST Whereas the Duty is calculated on the Au$ value, the GST is on the total of the Au$ value plus Duty plus freight/postage and insurance costs.

Each also atttract 10% GST.
You may also incur an additional $52 Customs Entry processing charge.

Postal items:
If the value is under $1000 and the amount of duty and/or GST is under $50, the duty/GST is waived.

If the value is under $1000 and the duty/GST comes to $50 or more, it is payable.

If the value is $1000 or more, the goods must be cleared on a Customs Entry for which there is a $52 processing charge and the duty/GST is payable no matter whether it comes to more or less than $50.

Freighted/couriered items:
If the value is under $250 and the amount of duty/GST is under $50, it is waived.

If the value is under $250 and the duty/GST comes to $50 or more, then it is payable.

Again, if the value is $250 or more a Customs Entry must be lodged ($52 processing charge payable) and the duty/GST is payable no matter whether it's more or less than $50.

But note that courier companies (such as FedEx, DHL, UPS) automatically lodge Entries no matter what the value, so you'll definitely incur the $52 charge on every shipment whether duty/GST is payable or not.

So it depends on which scenario your order fits.

Be aware that if you have several packages arriving at once, they will be treated as one shipment and added together.

Well, after 17 phone calls I have no choice but to pay the $333.68 or they just turn around and send it back to USA. I am spewing, its enough to make me want to punch my own groin in anger.

Lets hope it doesnt come to that.

I had the very same thing happen to me a week or so ago......
