In late August, Panini America will begin a sure-to-be-celebrated new chapter in its MLBPA-licensed trading card story with the updated reintroduction of a trading card classic: 2012 Signature Series Baseball.
The pioneering product returns to the diamond for the first time since 2001, packing three autographs in every six-card pack and a cutting-edge, personality-driven design that places extra emphasis on the personality of each player on the checklist.
What’s more, 2012 Signature Series Baseball will provide a marked contrast from Panini America’s recent MLBPA releases by going light on prospects, instead focusing on the game’s current superstars and all-time greats in a product that’s heavy on on-card autographs.
The highlights of 2012 Signature Series Baseball are many and include . . .
  • On-card autographs in the Signatures insert (numbered to 99) from the likes of Josh Hamilton, Matt Kemp, Miguel Cabrera, Ryan Braun, Dustin Pedroia, Mariano Rivera and many more
  • Autographs from all-time greats such as Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr., Greg Maddux, Carl Yastrzemski, Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, Randy Johnson, Reggie Jackson, Rickey Henderson and more
  • Rated Rookies Patches autographs of this season’s top rookie performers including Oakland standout Yeonis Cespedes numbered to 299
  • Hitters Ink Autographs honoring the game’s best batsmen, both current stars and retired legends
  • Lumber Cuts signed wood pieces from baseball’s greatest hitters
  • Game Ball Signatures featuring autographs on sweet-spot baseball leather from Hall of Famers, legends and current superstars
  • Signature Stats and Signature Stats Autographs focusing on the game’s biggest number generators
  • Diamond Cuts cut autographs numbered to 25 or less
  • No more than 499 numbered base sets and multi-signed cards featuring up to six autographs
We’ll have much more information on the triumphant return of Signature Series right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming weeks. Until then, enjoy this revealing first look at the product.
