Does anyone know what series would be the oldest Australian cricket cards?

What do you class as Australian??? Made in Australia or released in Australia?? A lot of the early tobacco sets were made in England and released in both countries.

sorry didn't think of that ...i meant depicting Australian players....of course they could have been released in England...

The oldest issue of Cricket cards in Australia is most likely the U.S.A. issued Goodwin's Old Judge series which depicts Australian Celebrities, Politicians and Sporting stars from the day (c1890) - 76 cards known. The cricket issues number 14 of these though there is a known variation of one as well; the George Bonnor card is depicted with a Head & Shoulder image as well as a Head & full torso image. There is also a record of three Anonymous 'Trade' cards, known that depict Dave Gregory, Jack Blackham and George (G.H.) Bailey - the first Tasmanian Test Cricketer which date from the 1880's. The Melbourne Cricket Club Museum also hold a series of early Trade cards that depict the 1884 Australian team that have never been recorded elsewhere, but are magnificent cards also - they had them on display during a recent exhibition celebrating the 'Hidden history of the MCG'.
