Hopefully he gets some time if Bass doesn't sign and he gets to learn from Dirk

Unfortunately he'll likely be waived or simply get no time at all there...Dallas have alot of PF types, and my tip is Nowitzki is likely to slide to C often this season with Marion at the 4 and Howard at the 3. Not much time for Jawai with even just Humphries coming accross.

If you look at the Dallas Depth chart:

bold players are unsigned
Power Forward Marion/Brandon Bass/Kris Humphries
Center Dirk Nowitzki/Erick Dampier/BJ Mullens ROOKIE/Jawai/Ryan Hollins

I think they would also possibly run Jho at the SG spot and Marion at SF. Which could free up time for Jawai.

I alos forgot about Gortat which will hurt his chances:

So more like:

PF - Marion/Gortat/Bass(FA)/Kris Humphries
C - Nowitzki/Dampier/Mullens(ROOKIE)/Jawai/Hollins(FA)

Mullens isn't there mate he was traded on draft day.

Perhaps Dallas see something they like in Jawai though, because I read in an article it was meant to be Douby in the deal instead of Jawai but it got swapped last minute.

So unless Toronto really loves Douby and wanted to retain him...

Hmmm if they are certainly getting Gortat, I would think they're going to run with him and Nowitzki next to each other for at least 25mins a game. Gortat is a great high energy player with great fundamentals and was often getting double doubles while Dwight was out last season. His inclusion would suggest they'll stick to using Dirk as a PF more often than not I would think.

Agreed. They are paying Gortat decent money too so I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting if not splitting time 50/50 with Damp. He's not there to be a little used player.

Yep, and I'd think he'd beat out Damp pretty easy! haha

In fact, as a starter last year he averaged 10ppg, 11.7rpg and 3bpg in 33mpg!...Mind you it was only 3 starts...

Haha the thing that surprised me about Gortat is that he is pretty young! Watching him play I thought he'd be in his late 20's!

But as for beating out Damp nah I'd expect Damp to start. He signed a big contract with Dallas a few years ago and is still an integral part I expect they start him for toughness and he will get his boards, couple of buckets and blocks. I'd expect Gortat to be logging a good 25 minutes off the bench in spurts to really bring the energy.

gortat is not a bad pickup at all for dallas... damp will have to play darn good to beat him out for the starting spot or at least for the majority of minutes...

Like I said Gortat is good but he's not a 35 minute kinda guy. In my opinion he plays 28 maximum. Damp needs to be in there cause he is solid and probably better on defense, tough guy!

Mullens isn't there mate he was traded on draft day.

Funnily enough he was still listed on the espn depth chart. They've now updated it to include Jawai. They have him listed at C behind Dampier and Hollins. Kris Humphries also not listed there.

Assuming you have 144 minutes to spread between Sf, PF and C.
With the following players Marion, Shawne Williams, Gortat, Dirk, Dampier, Hollins, Jawai

I would think it would look something like:
Dirk - 35 minutes
Marion - 30
Dampier - 25
Gortat - 28
Williams - 14

Which leaves 12 minutes to be shared between hollins, jawai and humphries (If he is on the team)

No Brandon Bass in there mate? I've read they want to keep him. I'm hoping he leaves though.......too much of a glug

I doubt Shawne Williams gets those minutes the guy has done nothing since entering the league.

But we'll have to wait and see. I'm not surprised if Jawai is treated as a 'project' like Toronto used him and they ship him off to the D-League straight away. Hollins is a sick athlete, he had some good plays last year.

looking at the depth chart ([ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/depth?team=dal"]Dallas Mavericks Depth Chart - NBA Basketball - ESPN[/ame]) Williams is the only other SF they have, assuming that JHo will also take some SF minutes, but I didn't count him in here.

They have a glut at SG, so depending on matchups JHo could play around 10 minutes ayt SF, taking away from WIlliams.

and of course Marion could also see of his minutes at PF

I reckon Gortat played well throughout the Playoffs was very surprised. I think Dallas did great in the trade.

Agreed Dallas have made some very good moves which in my opinion make them contenders in the West. I would definately put money on them getting a top 4 finish based on what they have done.

Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Shawn Marion and Dirk Nowitzki is a very good core.

Dirk is still All-NBA 1st team in my opinion and while Kidd is old he's a great facilitator for a lot of scorers on this team. Jet will do his thing and when J-Ho played well last year the Mavs could beat anyone. Add Marion to that mix with his athleticism, versatility and defensive prowess. Damn!

Gortat in the middle too, Quinton Ross a specialist on D, JJ Barea off the bench. Very nice!
