Fake Pokémon cards?

Got these from the local corner store while grabbing some other things and seen them at the counter. Kid said they’re fake - wtf? How can the shop get away with this and where do they come from?

Are they a lot cheaper than the real thing?

I can see a market for them, especially for really young kids starting out with collecting (like my nephew), who don’t handle the cards with care.

I’m sure there’s a govt department you call.

$3 or $4 ea. so not that much cheaper really - just shit

Not fake. Definitely authentic. I think they might be companion cards for the Nintendo games. I'll check with bulbapedia. But pretty certain.

Did some looking, and it looks like it's a promotional set. Your kid is used to the old yellow border cards which had been around since day one with pokemon. Scarlet and violet have introduced a new look - grey border (see photo). Can't think of anything else atm.

That's what has me thinking it's more of promotion more closely linked to the digital game. That and the hp being so high.
