Look, I know that 2013-14 Preferred Basketball released last week and that soon enough, the collective focus of basketball collectors will be fixed firmly on 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball, 2013-14 Immaculate Basketball and 2013-14 Flawless Basketball. But you’ll have to look long and hard throughout those four products to find a set as jaw-dropping attractive as the Rookie Jumbo Jerseys Gold insert in 2013-14 Spectra Basketball.
The 25-card chase provides a stunning amalgamation of Optichrome technology, rarity (the cards are numbered to 10), jumbo-prime pieces of player worn memorabilia, a young-superstar-littered checklist and fitting design. Add it all up and you’ve got one of the most impressive inserts of the entire 2013-14 collecting season. (My only complaint is a selfish one: North Texas standout Tony Mitchell didn’t make the checklist.)
