Ferguson 13th man?! WTF?!

Doherty takes 4 wickets and gets a run out...lets bring Hauritz in!!

We are a joke at the moment and our selectors are 99% to blame.

This is so frustrating.

They got it right on wed by including Doherty. The rest of the bowlers were hopeless, don't know how Johnson is our main strike bowler. No idea of a length ball. The Sri Lankans only allowed Hussey one four in his 71, Good tight bowling. Today the selectors had brain fade sticking to the same old bunch of hasbeens with Doherty and Ferguson sitting on the bench. Don't know who is the more to blame, half-wit selectors or half-wit bowlers.

totally agree, a complete revamp of the selection board is needed. when was the last time Hauritz got 4 wickets in a one day match? and not just cleaning up the tail, actually troubling the top order, disgraceful selection. Doherty deserves the spinners spot after a debut like that.

Written by a batsmen no doubt

I don't think the bowlers were wholly to blame.....the half wit batsmen only scoring 230 on an absolute belter started the rot by posting a below par score.............and Clarke lacks any innovative ideas and or inspiring leadership qualities......

I'm still trying to get my head around Bracken not been given a contract....wasn't it only 12 months ago he was the No 1 ranked bowler in the world in 1 day cricket...... Siddle is to predictible and Johnson is just to erratic.

With all the corruption in cricket these days and previous, who really knows if a team is playing to win or lose!

No wonder the ratings are so low and the general public have no confidence in cricket anymore!

Should have given the batsmen a bowl.

While we are all angry and disappointed, i think that there are several things to blame.

Some strange selections, some indifferent batting and very poor bowling. Personally i do not know what the answer is but I know one thing..... i would prefer losing games with young blokes having a rip as opposed to some guys who have had there day. However I am not a selector, but i would hope and imagine that Greg chappell wont sit around idle for too long.

I agree Hodgie, I think ever since Greg Chappell coached the Australia A team in 94/95 and put huge wraps on a young Ricky Ponting a year or so (from memory) earlier, he has had a great eye for young talent.

Although I wholeheartedly support 99% of players chosen for Australia and love to see us win any game of cricket, I think that there are deserving state players who should be picked before they hit their early 30's. Not a really big fan of selecting someone purely because they are a "young bloke" as such, as to me David Warner is basically a non-entity at the moment in the national team. But for sure, Time Paine, Xavier Doherty, Cameron White, Usman Khawaja and the like should, in my view anyway, be included more regularly than they are at the moment.

Soft as butter that dismissal of Ponting's last night. How dumb can he be falling for that 3 card trick all the time?

Doherty should never have been dropped, Hauritz is not a one day specialist spinner. Smith should replace him in the Test side too. Great last 18 months Nathan to contribute at international level again but your time is up.

Ron is right, while the batting has been unacceptably inconsistent we are just not looking like taking 20 wickets in a Test or looking even mildly potent in ODIs. Johnson is simply not performing and if there was any sort of competition on for spots he would have lost his spot in the side by now.

And before people jump on the Ferguson bandwagon he has been out of the game for 12 mths and only averages 36 in first class cricket. Yes he will play a Test or two this summer i think, but we are a long way from the days when Hayden, North and Hussey all made 10000 Shield runs at 50+ averages before finally force their way into the side.

Hilditch must go, hopefully GC can step in and revitalise what looks like a tired and flat squad in all forms of the game.

I am also stunned that Nielson has not come in for more criticism or even got the chop. Buchanan was much maligned but his sides never lost a game! Surely Nielson is as much to blame as anyone?

Good read - lighthearted but sums things up:

Beating England the way to rise from the ashes

And some noteworthy points from Deano:

Two coaches key to success

I would love to see this Aussie 12 at some stage this summer:

Watson
Hughes
Ponting
Clarke
Ferguson
Khawaja
Paine
Smith
Doherty
Siddle
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

Katich, White, Haddin and Johnson could be unlucky to miss out (handy reserves mind you), but Hussey, Hauritz and North have got to make way for some young blood IMO.

Love it! Also the senior members would do better because they would have to be seen as people to look up too by the younger men.

This would be a team that I would like to see

(Test)

Haddin
Hughes
Watson
Ponting
White
Clarke
Ferguson
Smith
Doherty
Siddle
Tait
Johnson

A little persistance might pay off....May aswell give him a go all the other fast bowlers are useless

Woops was still going. :p

S. Watson
S. Katich
R. Ponting
M. Clarke
M. Hussey
B. Haddin
S. Smith
M. Johnson
J. Hazlewood
P. Siddle
D. Bollinger

Can just go straight for Tait there's other younger fast bowlers you know. IMO would never put Tait near tests because what if he bowls 5 overs and is stuffed? Need more than that.

Man I like Tait. I think he has something to offer. It doesn't matter if he bowls in 5 over spells he can have a rest for 10 overs then come back on...He's a wicket taker which is what I like about him where as Siddle is the "hit the deck" bowler and mitch johnson is everywhere but you cant leave him out as his quality.
