Hi,
I sort of have set in my mind what i want to do with this issue I have, but wanted to get some opinions on what i am planning is fair?

Back on the 17th of june I purchased 4 cards from Ebay.
I actually got heaps more in the few days before and after this transaction from other sellers.

Now the others i ordered even several weeks after this particular order All arrived fine..
The time had come that ebay said if i had a problem i only had a day or so to sort it out.
So i emailed the seller, they were apologetic and refunded the Funds without issue, stating they would have expected them to arrive by then,
By the time this was done it was already past the deadline for me to open a dispute with ebay/paypal so i was happy.

Then i waited for two more weeks before RE purchasing the said cards from other sellers
(they actually cost me more too)
They all arrived last week fine and have taken there place in the respective set chases.

Now, Today the ORIGINAL cards post marked on the 18th of June just arrived......

So now I feel bad that the seller did the right thing and posted them when they said, and are now out of pocket the cards and the $5 it actually cost them in postage.
The cards in Question dont have any re sale value, so it is not like i can re sell them.
So they will just end up in my spares box and go to friends kids or something like that.

What I am thinking of doing is contacting the seller to say they have arrived and offer to send them a payment to cover what they paid in postage and maybe a couple of $$ extra as compo... Since after all they did the right thing, and the postal service stuffed it up some how.
The original order was only for $22 total anyways, so even tho i have already re purchased the cards, I feel bad for the seller,
And i think of it as KARMA
I would like someone to do the same in return for me if it were the other way around.

So Should i bother?? Do you think the seller might insist i pay the full amount since i have the cards now? can they force me to do that thru paypal etc if i admit by email i have them now?
any thoughts please?

Forget about wha your heart thinks if you had sold them and that happened to you would you want to know,as a seller i would they had no problem refunding you as you say KARMA works in funny ways let them know and ask them do they want you to send them back as you now have the cards and they have refunded you,its just the right thing to do.
Good luck with your choice but remember if this is you were you being the seller would you like to know and by offering to send them back you are keeping your part of the deal.

for the price of return postage, $1.20?, I would send back myself.

It was a US order so a little more than that.

and yeah want to at least do something, am not the sort of person to say nothing and do nothing..

Like i said, I would hope others did the same in return for me.
But also feel it is unfair for me to cop the extra since I have already paid for the replacements.

Can they open a dispute with paypal to force me to pay the Entire original amount again??

If i post them back the only people that win then are the postal services.... I dont think the seller would be too fussed about getting the cards back, as they are nothing special and would only sell to someone needing them for a set chase... witch i would say no one else now!

sorry didn't know that part.
maybe contact him and explain it all, he might offer to "sell" them again at a discounted rate if you still wanted them, or for him to pay you to return them?

The only thing you should do is the right thing to do. If the seller refunded you the full amount and you now have the cards you:

a) offer to return them to the seller even if it costs you $5 to ship them, its a good investment in karma
b) offer to repay the amount they originally refunded you and keep the cards

I really wouldnt care if it were a 1c card or a $100 card, you must do the right thing as the seller did with you. There are plenty of sellers that would get out of refunding you anything, so to have a good seller that did for you, you at the very least owe him to make it right.

Any other options than this (or the seller is happy to agree to) would be pretty unfair on the seller.

Cheers
Matt

Thanks all for the opinions....

I always have intended to make it right,
and if it came down to it, I would pay the return postage. But then I am out of pocket postage and the seller is out of pocket the postage.
But I dont want to get stuck with the second lot of cards and be out of pocket for them either.
It is not my fault as much as it is not the sellers fault...
But as i said I want to make it right! but want to be fair on both!
I have messaged the seller, and will wait for there response.

I have offered to return them to them at my cost.. OR have offered to pay half of the original purchase amount. this is enough to cover there postage and a little extra.

If they were cards i could re sell I would feel differently about it and just Re pay them the full amount without questions but I really doubt they would ever sell, and if they did I doubt I would get what i paid for them.... (i paid too much, but was just getting sick of chasing cards down for the set)
I did Wait for two weeks before i purchased the replacements of these cards in the hope they would turn up...

I Agree there are many sellers out there that would try everything to get out of refunding,
Just as there would be many buyers that scam sellers by saying things dont turn up when they do...

that is the main reason I am so scared of selling cards on ebay and have so much stuff just sitting here still...

Thanks again for the opinions, I can not take everyone's advice, But need to be fair on myself as well as the seller.

this is the first time i have encountered this issue and was unsure on what to do other than knowing i had to make it right some how
I do believe in KARMA.....

IMO the seller completed their end of the bargain by shipping them out, not his fault they got lost. He also then went on to refund you at your word when he knew he sent them out. So IMO you should sent him back the full amount, not just for postage. That is UNLESS he is ok with you sending the cards back to him.

What'd you end up doing? I'd be pretty pissed off if I was the seller and you only offered me 50% of what I refunded you. You agreed to pay that price for them and they arrived slowly through no fault of mine ... why does the seller suffer because of that?
