way back when some of our members weren't even born!!!

Around 1990-91 when I was in grade 6-7 I wrote to some of the VFL (before the AFL existed kids) clubs, telling them that I loved footy and obviously being in Tassie couldn't get to the games and sent my cards from that season to ask if they would sign the cards for me. Below are the results.

A couple of clubs didn't sign the cards, but returned them

One club, DIRTY COLLINGWOOD!!!!! Didn't sign and didn't return a little 11 year olds cards either.....

Most clubs also included a letter (Which I still have all of) some of them written or signed by a player as well.

Couple of Bronwlow medallists, and a legend or 2.

hey thats awesome! I once wrote to the footy clubs during the nineties as part of a class project Brisband Bears treated me best with regards to what they sent me for free..... Collingwood never responded!

any chance we could arrange a trade for the Clarkson??

Great to see some old AFL cards, thanks for sharing Billy!
Those old scanlens sets fetch good money on ebay for those that may have any hiding away and no need for them ;)
My old set is a keeper - I even glued it in a book! Yes glue straight on the card backs into the book #-o

have the 90 scalen rugbyleague set and stored them in photo albums lol Thank god we have toploaders these days! nice show n tell billy!

Never wanted the gum.... but at 10 cents a packet who could say no!!! man that brings back memories of the Patches store on York Street down from the parking building... its toy world now... but man the memories!

stacks of gum in a jar and stacks of footy and cricket cards :D

WOW !
They are sensational Billy - thanks for sharing them with us :)

Nice work Bily.....i didnt see this when it was first put up, but glad i stumbled across it. Shame they couldnt all sign in the "Autograph" part....

pretty funny looking back at these.
No sharpie if you look closely some of them have the indentation after being signed in the good old Bic Biro

If you check out the Mark Arceri card you can see the name has been crossed out and signed by Jose Romero

I love the rounded corners of them! notice the great condition of the cards!!Back in those days they were probably on occasion used as a weapon to flick at my sister

Nice Schimmelbusch auto. :)

I used to love that guy as a kid. Great player... not so great a coach.
