Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

What happend to the D??

Cavs giving up way over or close to 100pts a game lately.

Funny you mentioned that.

I just read this:

No defense? No problem as Mo and LeBron torch the Kings in 117-110 victory

its actually not a laughing matter if you're a Cavs fan... We gotta get it back soon... I hope we start doing it in Orlando coz those guys can really score. So if we cant play defense, they will just hammer us for sure.;)

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

BIG Z is back, and he has a good game today to help the Cavs win.

Now if Delonte would just get his ass back to training...

Great to see "Z" back! We definitely hang on while he's out.

Lakers-Cavaliers Preview

To say it's been an eventful week for LeBron James and Kobe Bryant would be an understatement.

After each topped the headlines for their performances at Madison Square Garden, Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers beat the defending champions on the same day James criticized the league for disrespecting a teammate. If that wasn't enough, James also was stripped of his rare feat at the Garden.

To cap off this extraordinary week, the league's two most dynamic players get the opportunity to square off Sunday when James' Cavaliers (39-9) and Bryant's Lakers (40-9) meet at Quicken Loans Arena in a matchup featuring the best team from each conference.

Bryant, the league's reigning MVP, opened this week by setting a Madison Square Garden record with 61 points in Los Angeles' 126-117 win at New York on Monday.

Not to be outdone, James, a front-runner for this season's MVP, scored a season-high 52 points while adding 11 assists and 10 rebounds in Cleveland's 107-102 win at MSG on Wednesday.

"I don't go out there for the numbers, I just play my game," James said. "You guys seen every phase of my game, the scoring, the rebounding, the assists and defensively just trying to attack the opposing team."

That triple-double lasted for only two days, though, as the NBA stripped James of one of his 10 rebounds after reviewing game tape on Friday.

If his triple-double had stood, it would have been the first 50-point game in a triple-double since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975. Instead, it was the second time the Cavaliers were upset by a league decision in as many days.

On Thursday, commissioner David Stern selected Boston guard Ray Allen to replace injured Orlando guard Jameer Nelson instead of Cleveland's Mo Williams at next week's All-Star game in Phoenix. Williams, who is averaging 17.1 points and has become James' sidekick, was originally left off the All-Star roster in a vote by Eastern Conference coaches.

"That's how they always treat us," said James, a five-time All-Star averaging 28.5 points. "They wouldn't take me (as an All-Star) if they didn't have to.

"You look at all the teams with some of the better records in this league. Look at the Lakers, they have two All-Stars. Orlando, two (initially three) All-Stars. Boston, two (now three) All-Stars. San Antonio, two All-Stars. All the good teams in the league that have really good records and you look at us with just one All-Star. It's a total smack in the face."

Cleveland, which has won eight of its last nine games, boasts the top record in the East and can take over the league's best record by defeating Western Conference-leading Los Angeles.

The Lakers, who have won nine of 10, already defeated the Cavs 105-88 on Jan. 19, and would own the tiebreaker for home-court advantage in the finals -- if they both make it -- with a victory Sunday.

Winning at Cleveland won't be easy, though, as the Cavs have won all 23 games at Quicken Loans Arena this season. They've also won four straight home games over the Lakers since a 111-106 overtime loss on Feb. 4, 2004.

Neither James nor Bryant had stellar performances in their meeting at Staples Center three weeks ago. James had 23 points on 9-of-25 shooting, nine rebounds and four assists, while Bryant finished with 20 points on 9-of-22 shooting, 12 assists and five turnovers. Bryant, an 11-time All-Star averaging 27.5 points, suffered a dislocated right ring finger, but stayed in the game

Pau Gasol, Los Angeles' other All-Star, led the Lakers with 22 points and 13 boards in the win over the Cavs, and has stepped up his game since center Andrew Bynum was lost for eight to 12 weeks to a knee injury.

Gasol had 24 points and 14 rebounds in Thursday's 110-109 overtime victory over Boston, snapping the Celtics' 12-game win streak in a rematch of last season's NBA finals. The 7-footer is averaging 28.7 points on 70.8 percent shooting and 14.3 boards in three games since Bynum got hurt.

"(Gasol) was huge," said Bryant, who had 26 points and 10 rebounds. "He played strong. He played physical. That's what happens. A team against you is playing physical with you, so you have to play physical right back."

The Lakers snapped a five-game losing streak to the Cavs with the win three weeks ago, and have not swept a season series from them since 2003-04 -- James' rookie season.

GO Cavs!!!

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Been extremely quiet on the Cavs and Celtics front, I wonder why... ;)

Here's something to cheer up the cavs fans, Mo Williams steps in to replace Chris Bosh on the Eastern Squad. :v:
Cavs' Williams replaces Bosh in All-Star Game

Posted Feb 10 2009 8:40PM

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Mo Williams is finally an All-Star.

Twice snubbed, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard was added to the roster Tuesday by NBA commissioner David Stern as a replacement for injured Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh.

Williams' teammates and Cleveland's owner Dan Gilbert were dismayed last week when Williams was twice left off the Eastern Conference roster but approved the move unanimously Tuesday.

"It has a beautiful ring to it," Williams said before playing at Indiana. "I'm excited for myself and my teammates and the coaches. It's a great thing, it's one thing people can't take away from you."

Williams wasn't voted in by the fans, nor was he chosen by Eastern Conference head coaches as a reserve. Then he was passed over by Stern in favor of Boston's Ray Allen, who is replacing injured Orlando guard Jameer Nelson on the roster.

The Cavs then took their complaints public, contending they were only team in the top five without more than one All-Star. LeBron James called it a "total smack in the face."

Gilbert was incredulous and poked fun at Williams' snub by using made-up words like 'stupidiculous,' 'idillogical' and 'preposterageous' to describe his feelings.

By Tuesday's pregame interviews, the tone changed.

"I called Mo as soon as I found out. I'm surprised he didn't call and tell me, though," James said, drawing laughter in the locker room. "It's great. It's something we all wanted."

Gilbert was equally pleased.

"It's unfortunate that Chris Bosh is unable to play in this year's All-Star game in Phoenix," he said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "The entire Cleveland Cavaliers organization are thankful that the NBA called on Mo Williams to take his rightful place on the Eastern Conference squad. In fact, we think it is 'fantacular,' 'extraordulous' and 'phenomerful."'

Bosh is averaging 22.7 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Raptors. But he has missed the last three games with the knee injury, including Tuesday night at Minnesota.

"It was mostly our trainers and doctors and Chris himself making the decision," Raptors coach Jay Triano said before the game against the Timberwolves. "I think it's a real sign of Chris not being selfish at all; not trying to play in a game when he's not 100 percent. Now he gets an extra week of rest so he can come back after the All-Star game and make a run."

The news came after the Cavs morning shootaround and took some, including Williams, by surprise.

Coach Mike Brown said he knocked on Williams' hotel door, and when Williams didn't answer, Brown figured Williams was asleep. So he called Williams' room.

Williams didn't know what was going on, but Brown could hardly wait to inform Williams.

"This is terrific news," Brown said. "Mo has definitely been one of my highlights in my time here."

After two snubs last week, Williams seemed resigned to taking part in the All-Star festivities, but not pulling on an All-Star uniform.

But when Bosh backed out because of a sprained right knee, Williams got another chance.

He is averaging 17.1 points, and has provided a needed compliment to James' prowess as the league's second-leading scorer (28.2 points).

Williams has also rejuvenated a team that made it to the 2007 NBA Finals and has fueled hope that the Cavs can end Cleveland's 45-year drought without a major championship in any sport.

The Cavs have the best winning percentage (.796) in the Eastern Conference, and the best home record (23-1) in the NBA despite Sunday's loss to the Lakers and still haven't lost two in a row all season.

And now they have James and Williams headed to Sunday's game in Phoenix.

"My advice for a first-time All-Star is that that first shot feels like you're shooting a medicine ball, so try not to shoot an air ball," James said. "But Mo will be with me all weekend, so I'll guide him."

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Great to see Mo get his due. Now I only feel that Vince Carter was snubbed.

Mo also replaces Jameer Nelson in the skills challenge, and on top of that he torched it today, going for 44 points in a W.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Well, the Cavs went down tonight in a pretty shocking performance, and it looks like that's the best thing to come out of the game! We also lose Ben Wallace to a suspected broken leg! Looks like he tried to play through it for over a quarter, too, although not sure how that helped himself or the Cavs. I would've rathered a healthy AV and Hickson to a crippled Wallace. Can't argue with the man's cajones, but!

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

daaaaamn the Cavs got ROMPED by Houston today who don't have Mcgrady and are splitting their point guard minutes between Brooks and Lowry.

very surprising.

And Lebron no assists for the first time ever I believe!

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Looks like we will take the homecourt advantage in the Playoffs!!!

Go Cavs!

As much as I love Wade, Bron deserves MVP this year.

But hey, I wouldn't argue with Bron, Wade or Kobe getting it as all are worthy candidates, just like I wouldn't bicker if CP3 had got the MVP last year, or Alonzo got it in 1999 ;) when he came second in the voting to Malone.

But seriously, Bron is the man.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Bron erupts once again. Best season of his career anyone?

Best Season of Lebron was the one from last year but as we all know, the team didnt do well during the regular season with us winnng only 45 games...

But this year is a very special one. Lebron should win the MVP over Kobe and if we can keep one game ahead of the Lakers in the last 10 games, we will clinch homecourt advantage through out the playoffs and even in the Finals...

Alot of the franchise record got broken this year and with James spectacular season and the addition of Mo Willims, we should get to the finals agian this year and hopefully win the Championship...

GO Cavs!!!

That's what I mean. James' previous seasons have been amazing statistically but this year is just special, and it comes with winning :)

Kobe is out of it btw it seems to be between Lebron and Wade, or at least that's what the general populous seems to think.

Re: 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

13 game win streak ended by washington wizards?!! Bron really needs a better supporting cast.
