Ben Cousins?

I find it ironic that i was the first person who put Ablett Jnr in there...

This is a bloke many people claim is better than his father (who features at the top end of almost everyone's list) - surely Gaz is in the top 10? He did it all at Geelong - and then went to GC where everyone said he'd fail without the likes of Bartel, Chapman and Selwood around him... and he responded with probably his best individual season of his career.

A true champion - despite what the haters are going to say, he's as good as any midfielder who's stepped foot onto an AFL ground in the last 30 years.

Yeah but the people who say that Jnr is better than Snr are idiots.

I agree with you, Ablett Snr could do things on a footy field no one else could do... People argue that he was freakish but inconsistent... hmm, righto - 3 years of 100+ goals after the age of 30 y/o (when most people start to decline) - suggests he was quite consistent. But to some degree, they have a point. Having watched almost every Geelong game since the 89 grand final - Ablett Snr would have occasions where he had next to no influence on a game / would go missing in big games.

Look at Ablett Jnr's track record, I can't recall a game since 2006 where you would say he had no influence (with the exception of the games he got injured for GC this year and copped the red vest). He's stood up in every big game of his career. Kicked the match winner in 07 to put us into the GF. Was close to B.O.G in the losing 08 Grand Final (despite Hodge getting the NS). instrumental in the 09 premiership. And then had 41 touches in a game Geelong got thrashed v Collingwood in 2010 finals.

Put him in a big game situation - Ablett Jnr has never failed. Which is something Ablett Snr cannot claim - despite his 89 finals series.
